Peter Obi Questions Political Priorities After Completing INEC Nomination Form by NewsenseNG(op): 1:21pm On Jun 30
POMR STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

What should be our priority? ', Obi queries political leaders as hè fills INEC form?

The Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, on Monday in Abuja filled the inquiry form of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as his name is upheld on the Commission's server, but has a poser for the nation's political leaders.

Writing on his X handle on Tuesday, Obi asked a very pertinent question to the nation's political leaders: "What truly should be our priority now as leaders of a Nation?"

The former Anambra State Governor explained that "this question has become necessary given where we are today as a nation and where we are supposed to be."

While completing my INEC nomination form yesterday, Section E, Question 1 caught my attention. It asks: “Have you ever been adjudged a lunatic or been declared a person of unsound mind?” The answer is either Yes or No. That question got me thinking: Can we, as the political leaders of today's Nigeria, truly say we are exhibiting characteristics of a sound mind? When our children are being abducted into the bushes, when citizens cannot travel safely on our highways, and when several million Nigerians are uncertain where their next meal will come from; when several billions are being siphoned frivolously through non-existent agencies and projects. In such adverse circumstances as we are, should politics really be our primary preoccupation?

A leadership exercising a sound mind would have convened an emergency meeting of political leaders across various parties and other critical stakeholders to confront these existential challenges facing our nation today. The survival of Nigeria should have been prioritised over the pursuit of political advantage.

Further, in the same Section E, Question 6, was "Have you ever presented a forged certificate to INEC?” Again, the answer is either Yes or No. This raises another important question: Why shouldn’t INEC, in the interest of ensuring that our leaders are exemplary in following the rules and for public confidence in our process, publish the academic certificates and credentials submitted by every candidate seeking elective office? Transparency strengthens democracy and builds public trust.

Nigeria’s problems are too serious for politics as usual. It is time for leadership defined by competence, character, capacity, compassion, and commitment to service. A new Nigeria is possible.

We need 15 million people who will say No to ₦50,000 on election day to win the election. Obi/Kwankwaso have 7.5 million votes, we need 7.5 million more people.

There are possibly at least 10 million Nigerians who will prioritize their pockets and collect ₦50,000 on election day to vote for a particular candidate. These people are so stricken with poverty and so disconnected from politics that they just don't care, they have accepted the false fate that things will never get better for them no matter who gets there. They also think if they reject the ₦50,000 and the election is rigged anyway, they have lost money. It's ignorant and stupid, yes, but it's a reality we must face.

We have to outnumber these people at the polling units, that's the only solution right now. Start mobilizing everyone.

What about people who take advise from lunatics?

As for INEC publishing the credentials of those who submitted them, Obi can lead the charge by submitting his own credentials to the public. INEC does not have to do so. If Obi submits his, that challenges other politicians to submit theirs.

Can Obi explain to us if it is not lunatic behaviour to save state money in a bank he was a shareholder. Is that not conflict of interest? Saving the money in the bank means the bank had more money to do business and earn profits which lead to increased shareholders' dividends. Can Peter Obi boast not to have made money from investing Anambra state money in Fidelity Bank?

Nigeria will never bow to an individual.

Can we, as the political leaders of today's Nigeria, truly say we are exhibiting characteristics of a sound mind?

He's throwing jabs at Tinubu. Yesterday, I posted a comment about Tinubu's first class and people thought I was shifting the goal post. It was intentional. There is no credible history of our president so who am I to think he was really the one who graduated from the college?

It will do you well to not stain this great topic with stains of Akara and kuli kuli. Just celebrate the young girl and move on.
In a country where a roadside mechanic must prove his apprenticeship but a president can govern from behind a smoke screen of missing transcripts, we have successfully canonized fraud as a prerequisite for statecraft. This systemic panic over a few pieces of scanned parchment proves that our democracy is a grand, elaborate scam built on a foundation of unwashed lies. We are a nation choking on the global shame of our leaders' forged histories, yet our electoral umpire treats basic public transparency like a state secret. Until we strip these emperors of their manufactured pasts in the open market square, we will continue to be a tragic comedy, a country trying to build a giant of Africa on credentials that would fail a basic security check at Ojuelegba underbridge.

Did he ask himself same question when he was increasing liberty as Governor of Anambra state? No!

When he was licking Abacha’s butt despite knowing the hardship Nigerians were facing and th me MASSIVE looting being perpetrated, did he ask himself same questions?

Peter thinks we all dumb and will see him has Jesus!

These are pertinent questions Nigerian politicians need to answer. Only if there is at least 60% transparency and accountability in our public offices, some characters won't aspire for any public office.

But to be candid don't you think the question is a good one. For transparency sake, if Inec can display the qualifications submitted by all candidates on their portal as a public information, it would go a long way to show integrity.

The people who will collect money to vote will see it as money well earned, because, through successive governments, their lot has not improved.

They, unfortunately, will not pause to ponder that it's the periodic cash and rice they have been collecting that is keeping them bound in the first place!

In fact, the weaponized poverty and ignorance has so warped their worldview, that they will see a candidate who doesn't give them .anything for their votes as "I serious", "without party structure" or even as an outright enemy! Don't even get me started on the ethnoreligious bigots who keep voting along those lines.
