[b]Several Feared Dead as Armed Herders Attack Sai Community in Benue

Several persons were feared killed while many others sustained injuries after suspected armed herders attacked Sai Community in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State on Tuesday.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the attackers stormed the community in large numbers, opening fire on residents and setting several houses ablaze, forcing villagers to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

The sources said security personnel were immediately mobilised to the area following distress calls and engaged in efforts to repel the attackers and restore normalcy.

Several injured victims were evacuated to nearby medical facilities for treatment, while security operatives commenced search operations to account for missing residents and prevent further attacks.

The attack also resulted in the destruction of residential buildings and other property, with many families displaced from the affected community.

The Nigerian army troops and other security agencies have since intensified patrols around Sai and adjoining communities to forestall further violence and reassure residents.

The latest attack illustrates the persistent security challenges confronting parts of Benue State, where recurring clashes involving armed groups have continued to claim lives, destroy livelihoods and displace communities.
