Great post.

Nigerians are generally too greedy and exploitative.

I am a supporter of FG and always call for good governance but I am really surprised no one mentioned the real reason on the FP for this reduction.

Revenue must have drastically dropped. How many Nigerians buy cars again?

I recall when it was always very easy to see the latest models of Toyota, Honda and Benz

Now, people still hang on to their 2015 models because anything from 2020 will cost an arm and a leg

The car dealers will still refuse to reduce prices of vehicles despite the duty reduction. Just like the petroleum marketers and refiners are refusing to reduce prices of petroleum products despite reduction in global crude oil price.

Now that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is about to kick off.. most Nigerian businesses will beg on their knees for patronage but won't get.. Nigerians won't buy from them anymore and of course other African countries won't patronize their overpriced goods.
With "One African market' coming into force, let's see how MOMAN and likes will survive. I want to see how Dangote will force Nigerians to buy his 12k per bag cement when 6-7k cement from other countries will be freely available in the market.

Federal government has reduced import levy on new vehicles 🚗 into Nigeria 🇳🇬 from 20% to 10% and that of used vehicles from 15% to 5% in order to ease cost of vehicle importation. The reduction takes effect today.

@DOlusegun
For once do something nice for the people Bro Tinubu

Let this be enforced immediately and further reductions should be implemented on other imported goods

A fantastic and long-overdue initiative—slashing car duties will definitely ease the burden on everyday citizens. However, it’s quite telling that it took this government over 3 years of crushing economic pressure to finally implement a pro-people policy. It feels like too little, too late. If the 2027 elections are truly free and fair, they’ll find out that Nigerians have long memories, and a last-minute tariff cut won't automatically erase years of hardship at the ballot box
It feels like it's too late? Are you dying tomorrow?

You see that cement issue? It's time the FG opens our borders to the importation of cement so that our cement manufacturers will face real competition

Which revenue must have dropped? Hope not the custom revenue because the NCS has for the past 3 years surpassed their yearly Revenue targets

my friend Is not about fortune teller or not appreciate a good thing or good policy but you can't trust this government in form until when it is materialize . This is the same government who promise civil servant wages award and could not fulfill his promise in full. This is the same government who announced that peculiar allowance will be paid to civil servant since about 4 months ago but nothing yet .

Everyone's 'tomorrow' is guaranteed to come, but that doesn't mean we should tolerate bad governance today. Asking if I'm dying tomorrow completely misses the point. The policy is too late because the economic damage has already been done over the last three years. We shouldn't have to wait until the brink of an election year to see policies that actually benefit everyday people

Custom don ever tell you they are not aware of new govt tariff policy? I'm shocked some people still never understand this country. Audio tariff reduction

jmoore:
Custom is different from government.

Only those that import cars can actually verify if this is being implemented or audio.
Re: FG Has Reduced Levy On Imported Vehicles by themanderon: 11:08pm On Jul 01
It will go back up after elections next year. We must understand that in this country all the poverty and frustrations the people have been put through is actually caused by thoughtless and wicked government policies by successive administrations.

So because it's an election year every policies by the government for the good of the citizens should be put on hold till after the election? Should the FG also put on hold the reconstruction of several road projects currently ongoing in the country, including the 2nd Niger bridge access roads, the Sokoto/Badagry super Highway and the recently approved 27 road all over the country till after the election?
Then lastly, All over the world, government comes up with policies for the betterment of the citizens even with just a day to an election.
Trump has just ended the Iran war because it's clear that that Republicans will be losing at their next poll. Trump should have waited till after the election before ending the war, even at the detriment of the whole world?
