As of October 1 2026, Nigeria’s six geo-political zones will become official and constitutional organs of government.
This means that there will be four tiers of administration in Nigeria - Federal, Zonal, State, and Local governments

[2] Nigeria will have six geo-political zones, with each being made up of seven states. Our constitution will prohibit the creation of any more states after these 42

[8] Each geopolitical zone authority will be responsible for secondary specialist healthcare. They will build specialist hospitals in areas such as oncology, HIV/Aids, renal failure, dementia, reproductive health, dermatology, etc

This will be great, and will help states pool resources to build bigger things like regional railway networks and even airlines, ports, power projects, waterworks, road systems, and most importantly inter-state police cooperation under the new state police system.

It's a fantastic move that will transform Nigeria and create greater regional autonomy.

Previous leaders came in and only paid lip service to these ideas, including ideas like state police.

Yes Tinubu is broadly implementing some of the things OP mentioned but his talk of State creation is a Red flag.

This is fake news in my opinion and I can't be bothered to prove that which is what I always attempt to do normally when I have time.

I know how PBAT thinks. He'd even prefer States merge so administrative cost reduce and efficiency improves.

If Tinubu can have his way, He'd opt for a model Awolowo, the sage, preferred which is that Nigeria be run under the far more efficient regional structure rather than State arrangement which is expensive to run and bureaucratically unwieldy.

OP should provide his source. Too many jokers today submitting their opinion online they present as official Government decree/decisions. PBAT won't ever endorse creation of more States.

If you talk about Ukwuani people not willing to be part of the southeast I can understand because of the age long argument of originating from Benin. Ukwuani is possibly the biggest stakeholder in this Anioma state creation.

But nor dey mention minorities migrants from SW and Edo. They cannot decide for the majority stakeholders.

The SE is too small to have equal numbers of states with the SW and NW. also, Bayelsa is currently the smallest state in Nigeria, you can’t further create another West Ijaw state out of it for the Ijaw people.

By Odo Oya, I’m sure you’re trying to put Kwara and Okun together into a state. If that is your intention, then it should remain a state in the North Central and not south west. We will create Ibadan state out of the south west to get to 7. What you’ve proposed is simply an attempt to shortchanged the south west.
