NYSC is over due for reform. A scheme and philosophy that was created 53 years ago by the military with the post civil effects in mind definitely needs reform in the digital and entrepreneur driven society. Most graduates attend it because of the allawee and to fulfill the law. Remove these two and make it optional and you discover that the majority will not be interested.

So,who told you if you remove those two things (Law & Allawee) that you said and makes it optional,that majority will be interested under this so called new reform regime?
What will interest them in the new scheme?
Skills?
Like which skill exactly would they learn in the extended 3 weeks ?
Carpentry? Tailoring? Mechanic? Driving? Heavy duty machine operator? Bakery? Computer repairs? Solar farm installation and maintenance?
Tell me like which one will interest a prospective Corp member there in that camp for 3 weeks? Or better put it, would the scheme teach the above mentioned skills in the camp or it would be the usual theoretical soap making process only?
You may be surprised that majority will even be more interested in the old scheme than this boring new one.
The aura in the regimentation,the unique and iconic khaki uniform,etc.
Let me tell you,when we were young in secondary school, anytime they posted Corpers to our school,a lot of us then do wish and challenged ourselves then,that come what may,we will do everything it takes to wear that NYSC uniform when time comes.
We didn't even know government were paying them and we didn't know too that there is a law guiding its participation.So, those two things were not our source of motivation at all as you tried to portray.
Rather ,the well ironed khaki was our motivation.
And till today,I still heard children expressing the same sentiment about the uniqueness of the uniform and the regimentation in the camp.

They should also make the Army and police wear Ankara as uniforms down in agbada style.

It should be nicknamed Fuji house of commotion. From day one of this administration they have always had to come back a do damage controls after making unguided utterances. It is almost as if they take decisions when they are high and once sobber they realize the mess.

This is why public officers should be trained in public speaking. Even I as a yoruba man, I was appalled by his comment. I saw the interview and thought to myself, what a reckless comment and terrible policy of true! All he had to do was say we will use local materials and if he mentioned Ankara, he must then also mention materials from other regions and tribes because you cannot adopt a cloth from one tribe as a national uniform.

NYSC should be made a mandatory 2year military service complete with full salary benefits.
Also, God help you if a war breaks out during your service, na deployment straight.

How can you guys turn this prestigious NYSC into an Owambe formation? What is wrong with the uniform. What is not reflective of Nigeria on it. They should pay attention to the content and leave the container, abeg.

The NYSC is not a skill acquisition scheme. It's a call to service to enhance cultural integration, boost patriotism to the nation and foster unity in a diverse country that is the entity called Nigeria. It has been largely successful

as many young Nigerians only get to leave their region during the scheme and develop a better appreciation for other cultures while purging themselves of long held stereotypes. The affiliation with the military also ensures it remains detribalised as the military is one of the few remaining institutions in the country that is yet to be sectionalised. Again, the NYSC scheme is not broken. There's no need to drastically fix it and change it from its set objectives.
