Newsmills:I thought MTN tax belongs to FG. no? it is only a dedicated funding initiative to guarantee funding to this type of project. Instead of government receiving the tax, MTN pays it directly to govt. contractor. |

Just in 3 years, projects scattered everywhere. It has not been easy on everyone but it’s a good progress for our country. What I like about Tinubu is that he wouldn’t let anyone destroy his legacy and works. After he’s done as the president, he will support a candidate with his style of leadership and vision for the country. |

Vixlot:I have been passing this road since the 1990s.... I have never seen it like this. It's stunning. Magnificent. First world level Infrastructure. And the great thing about these developments is that they are being accompanied by the new state police system that will end insecurity once and for all and make everywhere safe again. Beautiful stuff. |

Lithiumite:I am not seeking to convince you but just so anyone who seeks the truth will know it as it pertains to this road.... Obj awarded this road but it ended on paper... nothing was done. Yar'adua vs Jonathan reawarded it... Under Jonathan; with Peter Obi as governor, Obi got permission to do certain section of this road because the gridlock at upper Iweka section was terrible... Peter Obi did Upper Iweka Onitsha section (10 lanes) with a flyover at new parts.... Peter Obi also did unizik section of the road in Awka... Anambra State government was refunded the money Peter Obi spent on the road by FG under Obiano administration via promissory note of 25b or so Buhari came and did some section of the road using Sukuk loan through fashola... Then Tinubu came and is doing a section of the same road now... Tinubu has no right to claim glory for a contract that has been on for over 30 years and yet not completed at all |
| Re: Renewed Hope Is Alive Along The Enugu-onitsha Expressway by Lithiumite: 7:32am On Jul 04 |
Whynotthetruth:Thats a rather cynic thing to say and compulsive cynicism is from a place of parochialism.. .......I won't vote obi but I have severally on this forum praised him for the ojukwu exp way he built from head bridge to zik round about buy you coming here to condemn tinubu or refuse to acknowledge his effort on that road is incredulously sentimental. I have driven that road under gej, buhari and I know how bad that road used to be especially around amansea and you couldn't even drive on several sections around enugwu ukwu, akwuzu to awka,it was single lane.......tinubu could have as well abandoned it but you need to complement him for not doing that and how much socio economic benefits the people stand to gain, that road isnt for tinubu, its fir the people of the SE. |
| Re: Renewed Hope Is Alive Along The Enugu-onitsha Expressway by Whynotthetruth(m): 7:43am On Jul 04 |
Lithiumite:Buhari through Sukuk loan did single lane from Amawbia to Umunya... Tinubu has only done the other side of it though he hasn't gotten fully to where Buhari reached... Amansea part of it is still terrible... What is wrong is you and other APC champions singing Tinubu praises and insinuating the road was done and completed by him when it is far from being completed and not acknowledging others efforts on the road... For now, Tinubu's contribution on the road is the least.... Also, it is worthy of note that Peter Obi did the OLD ROAD of this Enugu Onitsha Express way back then to ease pressure from the bad state of the expressway |

Vixlot:Concrete Roads Vs Asphalt Roads: The Dave Umahi Revolution One of the most important but under-discussed shifts in Nigeria’s road infrastructure policy is the David Umahi concrete-road revolution. For decades, Nigeria relied heavily on asphalt roads, many of which failed quickly under heavy rainfall, poor drainage, overloaded trucks, weak maintenance culture and rising construction costs. Asphalt is not useless. It is cheaper upfront, faster to lay, and suitable in many environments. But Nigeria’s problem has never been merely building roads; it has been building roads that survive Nigerian realities. That is where Umahi’s concrete-road argument comes in. The Ministry of Works is now pushing reinforced concrete pavement for major federal roads because of durability, lower long-term maintenance and resistance to water damage. Umahi has argued that asphalt roads in Nigeria are rarely guaranteed beyond about 15 years, while concrete roads under the current policy are expected to last much longer — even up to 50 to 100 years, depending on design, execution and maintenance. This is not just theory. The policy is already visible in major projects. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is the flagship. Section One, covering about 47km from Victoria Island toward Eleko, was reported by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos to be about 98% completed by May 2026, with remaining works mainly aesthetics, walkways, solar installations and tree planting. Section Two was targeted to reach the Lagos-Ogun border by November 2026, while work was also reported to be moving on the Ogun-Ondo axis. Earlier ministry updates put Lagos-Calabar Section One at about 85%, Section Two at about 40%, while sections in Cross River and Akwa Ibom were said to be advancing. The Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway is another legacy project. The Senate approved a $516.3 million syndicated facility for Section One, Phase One, covering about 120km of a broader corridor expected to span roughly 1,000km from Sokoto to Badagry. The project is designed to link Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun and Lagos, reduce travel time, lower logistics costs and strengthen agriculture and manufacturing supply chains. Other major projects under the new direction include the Kano-Kongolam Road, redesigned as a 132km three-lane concrete carriageway linking Kano, Jigawa and Katsina, with solar lights and CCTV; the Abuja-Lokoja Road, now to be reconstructed with reinforced concrete; the Ibadan-Ife-Ilesa Road, a 103km dual carriageway re-awarded after minimal previous progress; and the Keffi-Nasarawa-Abaji Road Phase Two, a 129.3km rehabilitation project. The Bodo-Bonny Road is also significant. The ministry described all sections of the East-West Road as under active construction, with Bodo-Bonny highlighted as a major bridge-dominated engineering project, including over 3km of bridges and nearly 1.2km of main bridge structures. The bigger picture is this: Umahi inherited a difficult road sector. The Works Ministry said the administration inherited 2,064 ongoing projects in 2023, with funding constraints, contractor debts and many projects rolled over into 2026. It also disclosed that only about 9.7% of expected 2025 capital releases had been paid at one point, while contractors were owed about ₦2.2 trillion for certified work. That is why the concrete-road revolution is not merely about cement versus asphalt. It is about changing Nigeria’s road philosophy from cheap today, failed tomorrow to expensive today, durable tomorrow. Critics are right to ask questions about cost, procurement, transparency and whether every road truly needs concrete. Those questions matter. But it is also lazy to pretend nothing is changing. The shift to concrete pavement, phased legacy highways, stricter contractor mobilisation rules, solar lighting, CCTV integration and corridor-based road planning shows a clear policy direction. If executed properly, the Umahi model may become one of the most consequential infrastructure reforms of the Tinubu era. Because Nigeria does not merely need roads that are commissioned. Nigeria needs roads that endure. |

We'll definitely appreciate President Tinubu in years and decades to come. What makes him wonderful is no money was kept for him to run the country with. Met a grounded economy while more than 90 percent of our generated revenue was going to debt servicing. Yet he's able to turn things around in 3 years. Building badass infrastructures. Anybody saying they can do better are blowing lamba. People like Tinubu comes one in a life time. |
