“Once African Women Make Money, The First Person They Disrespect Is Their Husband” – Man stirs reactions with controversial take A Canadian-based Nigerian man has stirred reactions online after sharing his opinion on what men value most in relationships and marriage, claiming that respect is more important than intimacy, food, or any other gesture. According to him, even if a woman becomes the breadwinner of the family, she should never stop respecting her husband, insisting that respect is the foundation of a successful marriage. In his words, he said: “The only thing a man is looking for in a relationship or marriage is respect, even if you’re the breadwinner of the family. Trust me, it’s not intimacy, food, or several other things. That can be arranged.” The man went on to compare African women with Indian and Pakistani women, claiming that many women from those cultures continue to honour their husbands regardless of who earns more in the home. He further alleged that some African women begin to look down on their husbands once they become financially successful, especially when the man experiences financial setbacks. “You’ll see Indian and Pakistani women earning more than their husbands, yet they still respect them. But some African women start disrespecting their husbands once they become successful. If you disrespect your husband, nobody will respect him, not even your children,” he added. His remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that mutual respect is vital in marriage, while others argued that respect should be earned and should go both ways. The video has continued to generate debate on social media, with Nigerians sharing different opinions on finances, gender roles and respect in modern marriages. “The only thing a man is looking for in a relationship or marriage is respect. Trust me, it’s not intimacy, food, or several other things. Especially African women—that’s why Indian and Pakistani women do better than us. You’ll see them earning $200,000 while their husbands have no jobs, and they will still buy cars for their husbands with the utmost respect. Na wa ooooooo!!! Anyways, I think the issue boils down to individuality sha because not all women are the same. I no fit swear for this our generation of women but I can swear for the generation of our mothers because they were loyal, even through thick and thin. But here again, there's always a twist to things. A guy was saying "I wish I can marry a woman like my mom, my dad must have been the luckiest man to meet a woman like my mother". It is a norm for our African ladies, especially the modern African ladies. Pls ladies, once you're successful, I will advise you to disrespect your husband, that way, your husband (now ex) will find another lady that respects him even if she's successful and get you replaced. We know this already. Once a woman starts making money she feels she doesn't need any man. Meanwhile when a man starts making money he adds more women to his collection of list. If a woman suddenly starts using a good phone, she feels you using a lesser phone isn't in her level. This generalisation is demeaning. That you have a bad woman doesn't make other women bad. There are women that are well trained and will baff u with adoration even as they progress in life. In some situations, the woman will boast u till u start making it. Your growth will be totally the handiwork of the woman. Many of u here are enemies of progress. Its not only about Nigerian women alone its a cultural problem. I have observed that Nigerian men tend to dislike Nigerian women so badly mostly due to some of their character traits which is understandable.
