It is obvious that Nigeria as a country has lost most of her best brains to the economies of other countries in Europe, North America, Australia, and even Asia. Every year, seasoned professionals leave in droves in what we normally call the 'Japa Syndrome'. Many brilliant medical practitioners, bright engineers, wonderful accountants, astute technicians, and outstanding educators have left. They did not leave because they hated Nigeria, but they did not want to get stuck in an environment where their skills and expertise are usually rewarded with peanuts. If you don't want a tree to grow, you must start from the roots, and not the trunk, branches, leaves, or fruits. This is the case with Nigeria and the Japa Syndrome. Whenever the government want to fight a problem, they start from the trunk, branches, leaves, and fruits, instead of the roots. Spending huge amounts of funds on Anti-Japa programmes on National TV and radio will never solve the issue. Making long speeches and organising endless seminars will never solve the problem. The brain drain and japa syndrome will continue in Nigeria due to the following reasons: 1. The 'Stay back and build Nigeria' is an illusion. It is easy to ask Nigerian youths to stay back and build Nigeria, but the young ones are not blind. They can clearly see how the people who keep telling them to stay back and build are coordinating themselves and the affairs of the country. Public officials embezzle outrageous amounts of funds meant for development and nothing is done. In fact, they still contest elections and force themselves into elective offices, and you still expect the youths to stay back and build? Build on what exactly? Isn't it pure madness that the people who control the resources to build are squandering the same resources, while still asking young people to stay back and build? 2. Better renumeration in the western world: I have seen highly skilled individuals in Nigeria receiving peanuts as salaries. Imagine a medical doctor, after years of strenuous training receiving 250k as salary! A data scientist receiving 120k as salary! A seasoned teacher with an MEd receiving 80k as salary. If these people don't leave, they might continue to go round in the vicious circle that has been created by the system and die wretched. The authorities do not care! 3. The increasing level of insecurity in the country : There are a lot of Nigerians who relocated, and others who are planning to relocate, not because of increase in pay or making more money, but to be in an environment where they can move freely at anytime of the day without fear of being kidnapped or killed by terrorists. It is as terrible as that. People can no longer move freely from Benin to Lagos, from Onitsha to Ondo, from Katsina to Abuja, from Kogi to Osun. It is a huge slap on Nigeria as a country. It is a core duty of the government to protect its citizens, and not the other way round. If you don't know this as an adult, your education is a total waste! 4. Better education for their children : The educational system in Nigeria needs total overhauling. What Nigeria currently has is a carade. It is a caricature of education. An education that teaches children what to think instead of how to think is a huge problem. Many Nigerians want better education for their children, so moving out becomes non-negotiable. The policy makers are more concerned with changing the NYSC uniform to Ankara! 5. Ridiculously low human capital development : Real development goes beyond construction of coastal roads. What is real development? Real development is what the average citizen does, what he earns in a month, and the things that his earnings can fetch for him in the market. That is where you start from. That is human capital development. That must come first before we begin to talk about other things like coastal roads and the rest. You put the horse before the cart, and not the other way round. What concerns the average Chinedu, Aliyu, Adewale, or Rukevwe with coastal roads when he has no light to power his small business? You can only transport goods through coastal roads if you are producing. Is the environment conducive to produce? The government focuses more on survival than on human capital development. Last take: I have chosen not to be politically right. And it is deliberate, because I have observed that things go astray because many of us always want to be politically right. We see spades, and call them spoons. Before you argue with me, go and do a thorough research on the Social Contract of modern nations. You will discover that there are so many areas your government cheats you on. Providing security and a conducive environment for economic activities is not and has never been your duty. Most people are just politically miseducated.

Politicians ask you to stay home and build, then they loot our country dry and buy exotic properties abroad. Until we enforce the death penalty for corruption and embezzlement, Nigeria will never progress. |

| Re: Reasons Why Brain Drain And The Japa Trend Will Continue In Nigeria by GRACEGLORY: 1:46pm On Jul 04 |
Rapmoney:While many of the concerns raised are valid, Japa is not a perfect solution. Nigeria loses skilled professionals, weakening critical sectors like healthcare, education, and engineering. At the same time, many migrants face their own struggles abroad, high living costs, loneliness, discrimination, separation from family, and the challenge of starting over. Some succeed, while others discover that life overseas is far more difficult than they expected. The real solution is not anti-Japa campaigns, but building a Nigeria where people can earn a decent living, feel secure, and choose to stay because of genuine opportunities, not because they have no alternative. |

This post says much without addressing the issue . We can't all Japa and we need to build our country to prevent future japa. National loyalty transcend individual gains ,we see how citizens stay in their country during hard times ,example includes recent war in Iran against 11 countries,it got to a point they were even threatened with nuke but their resolved wasn't broken ,the same applies to USA against British colonialists . If we can't all collectively fight for our country because the odds are not in our favour, then who will ? |

motymop:... there's nothing to build on or build with !! *** APC cult integration of INEC & Judiciary has rendered the masses helpless to effect regime change even if they want to -no matter how bad the APC cult perform they're guaranteed to win ! *** politics has been reduced to a game of looters vs looters in a vote buying competition ! *** there's no level playing field -the children of average Joe stand no chance in anything ! *** poverty is weaponized, many are brainwashed to see everything as this tribe vs that tribe guaranteeing the masses can never unite to revolt against the detribalised "one Nigeria" occultists who kill and rob everyone (regardless of tribe) blind !!! The aim for all these is to encourage a Nigerian to start a family.. please and please if a Nigerian don't get married whatever peanut it gets can keep him or her till it dies. Legacy isn't a reward. Let's all die if the country won't get better than produce children who has little or nothing to making this country great again |

I guess what is happening in South Africa has not yet teach Nigerians a lesson. Even the TACO Orange Man Baby Trump started a Crusade of chasing migrants but was distracted by the Iran war and then the world cup. Dear Nigerians let us fix our country together in our own little way. JAPA CAN NEVER BE THE SOLUTION You can never be at peace knowing fully well that your parents, siblings, relatives and friends are facing difficulties back home (billings and endless demands will make you run crazy). Also all those I knew that Japa returned back to find peace in Nigeria when they became old, So I keep asking is they no peace abroad for them to have?. Black sport players, doctors, engineers etc. that are citizens of some European countries still face racial insults and treatments. Just like South Africa, one day a group of jobless racist white vampires will rise and demand that all blacks are sent packing from their country (Illegally or legally ). Many RADICAL RACIAL groups in U.S, U.K and Europe are gradually springing up daily but are still laying low for now. Do you know that politicians in Europe are now using anti-migration as a campaign to win election. As a politician in Europe just mistakenly say you will open doors to migrants, encourage migration or protect migrants, and watch yourself lose badly in the polls. May God help us |

Rapmoney:The moment you realize you are dealing with a combination of dangerous ideologies, you will know why some certain set of people do not want someone like Peter Obi to become president and why they also hate his tribe... What you wrote, it's like you just wrote one of the speeches I've had in mind... |

Haydens:I left Nigeria in 2008. Nothing to do with Emilokan. Indians, Filipinos, Chinese e.t.c all japa too. They don't have emilokan in their countries. UK doctors japa-ing to Australia do not have emilokan in their country too. |
