I have repeatedly told you guys that PH port is working. Why are you people assuming it isn't?

Onne is working 100%. An Nnewi man has a port in PH. What's stopping other neighbouring states from using it?

I have also told you that Lagos is a focal point for trade, not just in Nigeria, but other West African states.

Onne is working till tomorrow. Why aren't the Igbos using it?
Are you feigning sleep or you ain't informed? The day the federal government levels the playing field on shipping rates and customs, they'll use it.

you sound like those who think that nigerias 200 million population translates into revenue
the bulk of states in nigeria - SE included are civil service states
the bulk of the residents do not have large amounts of disposable income to engage in consumerism
even before shoprite closed, this was obvious

i visited shoprite enugu in 2015 or 16. all that was being sold there was bread and pastries
there was even a thread where some fool ish kids were talking about how ibos were smart had no use for shoprite because they missed the underlying issue - no consumers to drive retail investment

why would a company like fouani set up a warehouse in the SE when they dont have a guaranteed market? that is the kind of the thing the federal government of old did - build infrastructure that would not be properly utilized
Is Raum your mentor?you sound like him.
That said, using Shoprite to measure the buying/purchasing power of the East should be the funniest thing I've read this year, because it shows you either don't even understand how real trade works or you're tribalistic. You think because you saw only bread and pastries in ShopRite Enugu, it means there is no money? Eastern folks buy their things in bulk inside real open markets,go to Onitsha Main Market, Ariaria in Aba, or Alaoji, those places handle billions of Naira daily in raw cash.

And this your question about Fouani is laughable, because Fouani already has massive showrooms, big warehouses, and heavy distribution running actively in Enugu, Onitsha, Aba, and Port Harcourt to sell electronics because the demand there is too high. Calling East a "civil service region"(same hogwash Raum spills)is pure ignorance when the place is run by billionaires and private businessmen, with industrial towns like Nnewi manufacturing motor parts and cables without any government help. If the region has no buyers, why are thousands of containers, luxury cars, building materials, and heavy machinery being transported from Lagos down East every single day?

Stop using bread and ShopRite to judge a region that controls the largest wholesale market network in West Africa. Look at real trade facts and stop typing with emotion.

What baffles me the most is watching people who are struggling to survive passionately defend the same government under whose policies they continue to suffer. Many of them are uncertain about where their next meal will come from, yet they remain APC's loudest defenders. Those living abroad may have political or personal interests wey dey make them turn Sergio Ramos, but when it comes to those who bear the direct impact of the country's challenges every day, I genuinely struggle to understand what they believe they stand to gain. Omo!!?
Classic Stockholm syndrome

I just told you that your "Home" in business, is where your interests are. It could be market or resources. You don't relocate your business to Zamfara because you came from there

Limestone is in Obajana, and that's why Dangote is there. Okpella is a stone throw to Obajana, and that's why BUA is there. The reason Ibese is there too is definitely because there's an advantage it offers for Dangote, and not because "they should have a Cement factory"

You guys are using emotions to address the issue. Reality, unfortunately doesn't agree with that.

If Lagos is your target market, stay there. What is all these "Regional" Branch you are saying? I should open regional branch, even when the market there doesn't favour me?
Nobody said anyone should move a business to Zamfara just because of tribal sentiment, that isn't the point here. You brought up Dangote to prove that everything revolves around the "Lagos market", and I simply pointed out that his biggest cement factories are actually in Kogi and Ogun because of raw materials(this was why i asked this question and you just buttressed my point with your answer), it’s not always target market or biggest this or that, reason i said business ain't always 1+1,it could be raw materials, favorable conditions, name it, except you just wanna win an argument.

The undeniable fact remains that most businesses use Lagos ports because that is where the government centralized the functional maritime infrastructure, not out of personal preference or target market as you earlier claimed (How's this hard for you to grasp, or you're on agenda).

It is an error to assume the market outside Lagos doesn't favor expansion. If an alternative port runs efficiently with uniform shipping rates and automated Customs clearing, the landing costs for the entire interior will drop. Importers will naturally set up major regional warehouses there because wholesale buyers from Onitsha, Aba, and Middle Belt will gladly pivot to save millions on land transport and highway logistics stress, which ultimately result to cheaper buys.

I'll stop here, you're making me repeat same thing over

Baba, anybody that works in Trade Finance unit of a bank can tell you that after Apapa Port and Tin Can Island Port in Lagos, the next most used port of discharge for most imported goods into this country is Onne Port.

Onne port is fully functional bro.

How about this? One thing is certain, I won't repeat what I said earlier. Most times ,Ai is just textbook or surface or how you asked it, it doesn't cover the background shadings happening in the real market.

You cannot even differentiate between Freight cost and clearing cost.

What you posted is the Freight cost. That's what the Shipping line is charging. It has nothing to do with clearing fees.

You said the Federal Government should create a level playing field, and then you begin to quote Freight cost.

What is the FG business with how much Grimaldi or Maersk is charging? grin

But you can keep pretending.

Chief, you are just exposing your total lack of knowledge about how maritime business works in Nigeria. Who told you the Federal Government has nothing to do with what shipping lines charge,Go and check the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC). They are the official Port Economic Regulator appointed by government. They have the full legal power to regulate, peg, and even freeze the local shipping charges and tariffs that lines like Maersk or Grimaldi try to slam on importers. In fact, the NSC constantly uses the big stick to suspend unauthorized tariff reviews when these foreign companies try to manipulate prices. And stop twisting the argument to win, nobody is confusing freight costs with clearing duties. My point remains that the government’s failure to enforce fair, uniform regulatory oversight across all regional ports plus real world underground shadings is the exact reason why shipping lines find it easy to artificially inflate freight costs for Eastern routes compared to Lagos. The Federal Government has everything to do with checking the excesses of these shipping lines to create a level playing field. Stop using wrong information to defend regulatory failure.grin grin tongue

Gbaja that was penalized in the US for failing to refund money to his client before coming back to Nigeria so I'm not surprised.

Apparently has a cousin in the US who's a former NFL player.

Sincerely gbaja should be sacked for having anything to do with this dodgy character whose story has been out there since 2017.

Then again, it may be a pointer to gbaja himself.

Exactly. It also depends on what level of authority you classify as "government" because surely someone in authority knew about it. Whether it is at the level of Gbaja or it is at a lower level, that is what needs to be sussed out.

The country is on life support, and people are stealing and misappropriating funds like we are in 1970s type of oil boom. It is a phucking disgrace.

That is what i was asking. Based on explanation given by BlueRay.Dick and izz.ou i suspect somebody got greedy and tried to renegotiate after the fact and the other party decided to scatter everything.

Yeah, the the disclaimer put out by Gbaja in June 2026 triggered the guy to issue a press conference where he made accusations against Gbaja and dropped hints that suggested he wouldn't be having that much power If Gbaja or someone else higher in the presidency was not backing him.
