A suspected petty thief was reportedly caught after allegedly stealing chickens in the Sango area of Ibadan on Saturday.

According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect was tied to a streetlight by residents, with the allegedly stolen chickens hung around his neck in what appeared to be a form of public humiliation. The incident attracted a crowd, with many onlookers gathering at the scene.

As of the time of this report, it was unclear whether the suspect was later handed over to the police, and authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Public shaming and mob punishment remain unlawful, as security agencies have repeatedly urged residents to hand over suspects to the police for investigation and prosecution through the legal process.

A petty thief was caught stealing chickens in Sango, Ibadan yesterday and tied to a street light with the stolen birds around his neck as punishment.

Someone invested the time, money and effort to rear a chicken, enduring the constant risk of losing it to predators, only for one bastard to come and simply take it when it finally matured and then blame Tinubu for the theft. Was the owner not operating under the same economy? I have no patience for criminals who commit crimes and then shamelessly try to shift the blame onto someone else.

The chickens committed no crime. Why punish them also? The quickest means to see Africans’ barbarity is by stealing from them or begging them for favours. We love destroying the next man’s pride.

That route is very notorious for thieves, infact they rob during the day in that area...I remember one pos guy was robbed in broad daylight that year.
