Can Nigeria Bid To Host The Next AFCON? by robosky02(op): 1:24pm On Jul 06
Nigeria can host the Africa Cup of Nations, but it would require massive financial investment and facility upgrades. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently invited bids for the 2028, 2032, and 2036 tournaments. However, Nigeria must compete with countries like Morocco and South Africa

Current Standing and Challenges:

While Nigeria has successfully co-hosted the tournament previously (1980 and 2000), the country's recent track record for sports infrastructure has been a hurdle.

Recent Bids: Nigeria previously submitted a joint bid with the Benin Republic to host the 2027 AFCON. However, CAF ultimately awarded the 2027 hosting rights to Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, while Morocco is scheduled to stage the 2025

Strict Requirements:
CAF requires host nations to present top-tier stadiums, advanced training facilities, accessible international airports, and modern hospitality infrastructure. The bidding process is now strictly vetted by independent experts like PwC to ensure operational viability.

Doable Action Plan

To successfully host a future AFCON (like 2028 or beyond), Nigeria would need to heavily upgrade facilities across the country. Key stadiums that would need significant overhauls or modernization to meet CAF’s 24-team tournament standards include:

1. Godswill Akpabio Stadium (Uyo)MKO
2.Abiola National Stadium (Abuja)Adokiye
3.Amiesimaka Stadium (Port Harcourt)
4.Yakubu Gowon stadium (Port Harcourt)
5.Teslim Balogun Stadium (Lagos)
6. Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium (Enugu):
7. Sani Abacha Stadium (Kano
8. Amadu Bello stadium (Kaduna)

1. Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (Uyo, Akwa Ibom): Often regarded as the best and most beautiful stadium in the country, this 30,000-capacity ultra-modern complex features bulletproof VIP suites and a pristine natural grass pitch.

2. Moshood Abiola National Stadium (Abuja): Formerly known as the Abuja National Stadium, this 60,491-capacity facility is the nation's premier multi-purpose sports center. It features a lush grass pitch, a tartan running track, and regularly hosts the Super Eagles' World Cup qualifier

Re: Can Nigeria Bid To Host The Next AFCON? by Eriokanmi:
Pls noo. Let insecurity be nipped in the bud first. Mass kidnapping go yapa. Unfortunately, we don't have responsible leaders yet. Ordinary Oyo kidnapping, tinubu hasn't visited, talk less of calling Governor Makinde to show empathy, the man who fought hard to win Oyo for him in 2023, despite being in the opposition. That's the height of cruelty.

You omitted the two other major challenges: insecurity and high poverty rates that continue to cripple life in the country for 10s of millions of people daily. undecided

You think the insecurity challenges in Nigeria is a joke.

Apc needs to be booted out before Nigeria can be qualified to host any major tournaments.
Re: Can Nigeria Bid To Host The Next AFCON? by Usmanovic95(m):
This will be a good news to bandits.Massive cash out for them.NFF should draft a memo to inform anyone coming to watch the tournament must make extra cash available for payment of ransom, as the government won't negotiate on anyone's behalf o.

Nigeria is currently undergoing significant infrastructural shifts, driven by new road networks, remodeled and expanded airports, and other key developments.

The primary concern remains insecurity. However, 2032 represents a realistic target for transformation; by then, we can hopefully look forward to superior infrastructure, an economic uptick, and enhanced safety as state policing becomes fully fledged.
Re: Can Nigeria Bid To Host The Next AFCON? by Basicend: 10:45pm On Jul 06
Lol. Except all the contegents and logistics will be routed tru air transport.

Otherwise, FG should just set aside $20 billion for serial random payments to kidnappers. Una go tire.
