Please and please, never ever depend on oral promises. He's only out to use you and keep you working because you're expectant. It's an old formula adn you would end up disappointed.

Go for the receptionist with a better salary. You would also have some time to sit until fuel attendant that you'd stand all day for less money.

A bird in hand is better than 5 promised birds in the bush. If he cannot pay you 50k or more, please go for the receptionist job of 50k.

Based on what you've shared, I would recommend Option 1: Receptionist (₦50,000).

Here's why:

It pays ₦20,000 more immediately, which matters if you're currently broke.

It keeps you in the hospitality industry, where you already have experience.

A receptionist role can expose you to guests, hotel operations, and networking that may lead to better opportunities.

However, Option 2 becomes more attractive if the promise is genuine. If the gas station owner is someone you know well, has a track record of keeping his word, and has clearly committed to moving you into the new hotel in December with a significantly better salary, then it could be a worthwhile investment.

My suggestion would be:

If the hotel receptionist job is just another low-paying job with no growth, and you trust the church member to fulfill his promise, then choose the gas station supervisor role because it has a clear path to a better position in a few months.

If you're not completely sure the December opportunity will happen, take the ₦50k receptionist job. You can always switch later if the hotel opportunity becomes real.

Since both jobs are within trekking distance, transportation isn't a deciding factor.

In short:

Need the higher income now and certainty? → Receptionist (₦50k).

Trust the church member and believe the December promotion is solid? → Gas station supervisor (₦30k) for the longer-term opportunity.

A final piece of advice: Don't rely on verbal promises alone. If you choose the gas station role, politely ask the owner what the transition to the hotel will look like (expected salary, role, and timeline). Even an informal written confirmation via WhatsApp can provide more certainty.
