pocohantas:What they are doing is nothing new. Anytime the failures of govt become to apparent and inescapable immigrants become a convenient scapegoat. We saw it in the late 80s Ghana must go. Idi amin pulled the same with the Indians. Trump is doing the same. It will not resolve anything, but it will give the frustrated some victims to vent on. When all is said and done, the situation will be worse than when they started |

izzou:It's called insurance fraud. And it is why insurance companies have investigators who follow up to verify claims. The insurance company has paid the owner for the value of the car and will now dispose of the scrap to recoup their losses. They are data driven so once this scam is run enough time it will show up on their records. That is part of what busts criminals. Their established patterns |

South Africa actually managed to chase many people without major bloodshed on a genocidal level But are there still Africans in South Africa? Would be good if someone can quantify how successful their "Ghana must go" movement was |

izzou:You are even looking at it from the angle of menial jobs and low skilled Labour, what about highly skilled and specialized professions? For example now, if you go to gulf countries like Qatar, Saudi, Bharian, UAE, etc; majority of specialized jobs in oil and gas sector, medicine, mining, and even finance are done by foreigners who are expatriates...... The expats are mainly Indians, Pakistanis, Africans, few Americans and Europeans who are able to explore such temperate areas. If tomorrow the Arabs wake and ask those foreigners to leave their countries without any planned replacement with another set of skilled foreigners, tbey will suffer greatly. I want to believe the south Africans too will have some sectors of their economy that are running smoothly because of the presence of foreigners/expats. In die time they will suffer the consequences of this foolish movement they cunningly disguise as fighting against "illegal foreigners". Standard bank group is a South African owned financial giant that operates in different African countries. Then you have companies like Debonairs, MTN and co who pack millions of dollars from different African countries yearly. These Xenophobic fools never thought of what would happen if every African country decides to cripple their business and send them packing from their respective countries. I used to think they had very good education system in that country Sha |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 8:00pm On Jul 07 |
Ibime:There are still Africans in South Africa. Especially those in white collar jobs and high brow neighborhoods. Those in middle class neighborhoods will be more exposed to the riots Th riots are more likely going to be prevalent in the Ajegunles and Okokomaiko than in their Asokoros and Ikoyis |

Alex Onyia, Man of the Year 😎👏😎👏 Single handedly organized South East maths Olympiad, took the winners and their teachers to Rome, and they won gold in their respective categories on global stage.. With less than 5000 participants for this first outing, he's now gotten 30,000 students registered already for the 2027 edition.. Hopefully this ushers in new vigor for both students and teachers in the south East.. If you can, please visit Alex Onyia page on X to donate, no matter how little, donations and spendings are published..

GloriousGbola:It'd be nice, but this is almost in the realms of wishful thinking. There's no Nigerian state where the people resident there are dependent on water produced by government. Those of us lucky to stay in places where we can dig the ground and have water gush out should thank our stars for the luck of geography. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by lawani(m): 9:09pm On Jul 07 |
Theflint1:Enugu has money now as the governor has increased the igr very substantially. The water should not cost a lot to fix and it will earn revenue that will pay back the cost. I believe the government is well positioned to fix the problem at a profit |

lawani:It will cost a lot to fix oh. I doubt if he can even provide for the whole capital. What we saw in that video was from a place called Emene. It's somewhere close to the Lake at Nike. Maybe that's why theirs can be solved primarily Enugu's water issues na Nature-made. The coal deposits below makes it difficult to access water |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by lawani(m): 9:29pm On Jul 07 |
izzou:They are planning to send the water by pipeline over some distance. If it is metered, it will turn out profit. People spend over 100k per month on water in Enugu |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 9:40pm On Jul 07 |
lawani:I feel that the option might be to pipe the water to a central point, from which people can now buy in tankers Because we have zero plans for Urban planning in Nigeria. How do you begin to channel water to individual homes? How much will it cost to start piping the whole Enugu, to send water to people's houses? And it's the same everywhere. Water boards hardly exist in Nigeria again. Everybody has their own borehole machines. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 10:01pm On Jul 07 |
izzou:Providing access to clean water can be tricky, even for countries that have their sh1t together, not to mention a country like ours. Lagos has been complaining of brown water on the Island since forever...nothing has been done till date. Ekpoma's water challenge is a running joke, no fix in sight ever. Same with several parts up North. We should just thank God for borehole water, there are some challenges that are beyond our leaders. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 10:23pm On Jul 07 |
Theflint1:But how's it that those gulf countries situated literally in the middle of deserts provide portable water for their citizens? We don't see their citizens complaining all year round about water online? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 10:43pm On Jul 07 |
Theflint1:I think this particular challenge is caused by our usual neglect for planning. Enugu's water challenge may not have been a problem in the 80s because the population might have been small, but nobody looked at the bigger picture. The Lekki you mentioned is another example. As it started developing, why can't the government map out a Water solution for the area? We are very good at selling land up and down, but nobody thinks about the foreseeable future. We hardly plan for anything in this country. No challenge in Nigeria is beyond us. We just keep expanding and increasing our population inside the problem |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 10:48pm On Jul 07 |
BlueRayDick:Exactly. I was born and also grew up in Festac. I haven't seen any place in Nigeria that is as planned as that place; Something of 1977. Festac has its own Water board (Doesn't work anymore) Had playgrounds Had places apportionned to schools Had Power Gen sets for each Road Had places reserved for expansion Had its own market Urban and Regional planning no dey work for Nigeria. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Ibime(m): 10:53pm On Jul 07 |
BlueRayDick:They drill deep into Aquifers and use desalination technology. No be borehole money. Enugu residents can't afford the cost per litre that will pay off such capital investment. Easier to buy or pipeline water Other subsaharan countries are starting to have desalination plants most notably Cape Verde and Namibia but really there's no need in Nigeria as we mostly have freshwater. Enugu alone does not have enough population to build a business case for a desalination plant and besides they don't border the sea so nowhere to pull the saltwater from |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 10:54pm On Jul 07 |
BlueRayDick:Same with electricity, assess roads, public health, quality basic education, housing and so on. There's no one big problem that Nigerian leaders have solved even to 50% in over 60 years of self-governance. No be life we dey for this part of the world. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 11:00pm On Jul 07 |
Ibime:Maybe if water issue had been solved for other parts of the country where there's assess to freshwater, it would be a bit easier to pipe water to places where they just can't get if off the ground. Most of our problems no be rocket science, they're problems that solution has been available for, and at scale many many years now, decades of bad leadership is why the problems now start looking insurmountable. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by lawani(m): 11:49pm On Jul 07 |
Ibime:Desalination is so cheap whole countries depend on it including for agriculture. So Enugu can afford to pay for it. However the problem is that the salt is returned to the sea and there are reports that some parts of the seas have become up to twenty five percent more conc overtime as a result and this has its own disadvantages for the ecosystem. That is how some people explained it but access to potable water is gradually becoming a serious problem globally and desalination is probably going to emerge as the cheapest way out since the oceans are there and some of the potable water produced will somehow return to the oceans via rain after evaporation while the rest goes into the earth to add to what is there. Even if the state government can not raise the money, they can go into partnership since the market is there. We with limitless water from borehole don't appreciate what we have |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Ibime(m): 11:59pm On Jul 07 |
lawani:AI disagrees with you. Desalination is the most expensive form of producing water. You need a large population of financially able people to make it work Minimum desalination plant costs $300m-$1bln. We haven't talked of cost of transporting the water via pipeline
|
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by lawani(m): 12:39am On Jul 08 |
Ibime:So even if pipeline takes it to 800 naira for 1000 liters, can we say that is expensive? Israel uses it for all agriculture and home use. A home of five can manage less than 20k per month for such water |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 12:47am On Jul 08 |
lawani:Especially if the water is clean enough to eliminate the need for "pure water" |
