NAF ENHANCES COUNTER-TERRORISM CAPABILITIES WITH SUCCESSFUL ACCEPTANCE OF ADDITIONAL THREE AW109 TREKKER HELICOPTERS IN ITALY The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has achieved another significant milestone in its fleet modernisation efforts with the successful completion of a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) on an additional batch of three AW109 Trekker Type B helicopters at the Leonardo Helicopters facility in Vergiate, Italy. Conducted from 29 June to 3 July 2026 by a delegation comprising representatives of the NAF and the Ministry of Defence, the exercise highlights the Federal Government's sustained commitment to strengthening Nigeria's air power capabilities and enhancing the operational readiness of the Armed Forces to effectively address evolving security challenges. The comprehensive inspections and flight evaluations undertaken during the acceptance exercise confirmed that the helicopters fully met contractual specifications and operational requirements ahead of their delivery to Nigeria. The successful exercise further underscores the steady progress of the NAF's fleet modernisation programme and the Service's determination to induct only reliable, mission-ready platforms capable of delivering decisive air power effects. Upon induction, the AW109 Trekker Type B helicopters will significantly enhance intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, close air support, armed escort, combat search and rescue missions, as well as other joint operations in support of surface forces across various theatres of operation. Commenting on the milestone, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, stated that the dynamic nature of contemporary security threats demands agile, technologically advanced and mission-ready air capabilities, noting that the additional helicopters will further strengthen the NAF's capacity to deliver decisive air power effects in synergy with surface forces, deny criminal elements freedom of action and enhance national security. The development further reflects the unwavering support of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, towards strengthening the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces. As the Nigerian Air Force continues to modernise its fleet and expand its operational capacity, Nigerians can remain assured of the Service's steadfast commitment to restoring peace, safeguarding national unity and creating a secure environment necessary for national development and economic prosperity. #NigerianAirForce #AirPower #FleetModernisation #CounterTerrorism #CounterInsurgency #MissionReadiness #NationalSecurity #JointOperations #OperationalExcellence #WillingAbleReady

The U.S. spent much of the 1980s and 1990s arguing over border security and broader national security vulnerabilities. After Reagan's immigration reforms and enforcement efforts, successive administrations often treated the issue as politically inconvenient. "It's just drugs. It's just illegal immigrants." No urgency. Then came 9/11. Years of neglected security vulnerabilities came due all at once. Who ultimately paid the price? Ordinary Americans. They were force to accept expanded government surveillance, stricter airport screening, more intrusive security procedures, and a significant increase in the powers of the state. The world became more restrictive. Bringing it home: Nigeria's kidnapping epidemic is being fueled by problems that are still within our control to address. Every successful kidnapping emboldens the next criminal, weakens public confidence, and pushes the nation closer to extraordinary security measures that may one day affect every law-abiding citizen. If we fail to act decisively now, we may eventually find ourselves surrendering freedoms that we currently take for granted. History shows that when governments neglect security threats, it is often ordinary citizens who end up paying the highest price. The Oyo children are home, and we should be grateful. But gratitude should not become complacency. Their ordeal should serve as a warning that security threats ignored today WILL reshape our future tomorrow. We still have an opportunity to act before the price of delay becomes one that every Nigerian is forced to pay. |

PRESS RELEASE NAF SUSTAINS COUNTER-TERRORISM GAINS AS FRESH STRIKES SHATTER TERRORIST ENCLAVE IN BORNO The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has recorded another major operational success with precision air strikes that devastated a terrorist enclave at Yaganari in the Gezuwa general area of Borno State on 10 July 2026. Acting on credible intelligence on renewed terrorist activities and the concentration of fighters in the area, the Air Component conducted intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions which confirmed the presence of terrorist structures and logistics hubs. The targets were subsequently engaged in a series of precision strikes, leading to the destruction of terrorist infrastructure and the neutralisation of several terrorists. The successful operation further underscores the growing pressure being mounted on terrorist elements, whose freedom of movement and ability to regroup continue to be severely degraded by sustained air offensives. The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the personnel involved for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force's resolve to sustain relentless offensive operations against all threats to national security. According to the CAS, "The Nigerian Air Force will continue to deliver decisive air power in concert with surface forces to hunt down, disrupt and destroy terrorist elements wherever they may seek refuge. We remain committed to ensuring that terrorists have no safe haven and no opportunity to recover their capabilities." He stressed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain firmly on course in consolidating the significant gains already recorded in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign. Ehimen Ejodame Air Commodore Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force.

I think it is worthy of note that an operation of this magnitude; a multi agency rescue was pulled off. Yes there's been "national level" exercises but it's very commendable we did it for real. bidex111: |

OPERATION HADIN KAI TROOPS CRUSH ISWAP INFILTRATION ATTEMPT IN CROSS KAUWA, INFLICT HEAVY LOSSES…Preliminary Forensic Findings Point to Foreign Facilitators Behind Failed Attack Troops of 19 Brigade, Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have decisively foiled an attempted infiltration by ISWAP terrorists into Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers and forcing them to retreat in disarray. The successful defence of the location further demonstrates the vigilance, combat readiness and operational effectiveness of troops who continue to deny terrorist elements freedom of action across the North East Theatre. The failed attack occurred at about 2220 hours (10:20 p.m.) on 11 July 2026, when the terrorists attempted to exploit the cover of darkness to breach the troops' location. Alert troops swiftly detected the hostile movement and responded with coordinated and overwhelming firepower, compelling the terrorists to abandon their mission of looting cholera medical supplies and withdraw in confusion after suffering severe losses. The attempted looting further lends credence to recent intelligence reports of a cholera outbreak within terrorist enclaves, as well as reports of the execution of some affected members by the group. The neutralisation of a terrorist cameraman during the failed assault led to the recovery of a Sony camcorder containing highly sensitive recordings of terrorist activities, including operational footage and propaganda materials. Preliminary forensic analysis of the last available video recorded prior to the attack indicates that the operation was coordinated by four senior ISWAP commanders (Qai'ds), alongside three foreign terrorist facilitators. They include a Palestinian Arab identified as Abu Ishaq, assessed to be ISWAP's overall trainer; a Moroccan Arab identified as Abu Thaiba, a medical doctor serving within the terrorist network; and another Arab operative whose identity is yet to be established. The presence and active involvement of these foreign nationals further reinforces intelligence assessments that ISWAP continues to benefit from external support, specialist expertise and transnational terrorist linkages Following the successful engagement, troops immediately dominated the area and conducted exploitation operations to ascertain the full extent of the terrorists' losses. During the operation, troops recovered the Sony camcorder, several rounds of PKT and 7.62 mm Special ammunition, terrorist uniforms and other combat enablers. Initial analysis of post-engagement satellite imagery revealed terrorists evacuating the bodies of some of their neutralised fighters during their withdrawal. This has since been corroborated by credible human intelligence sources, which confirmed that the terrorists suffered heavy casualties, with many others sustaining gunshot wounds during the engagement. Two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds during the firefight and were promptly evacuated by air for advanced medical care. Both personnel remain in stable condition. The failed infiltration attempt represents yet another significant operational setback for ISWAP and caps a costly weekend for the terrorist group following sustained offensive operations and intensified military pressure across the North East Theatre. The outcome underscores the increasing difficulty the terrorists face in executing coordinated attacks against highly alert and combat-ready troops, while further degrading their combat capability, morale and freedom of action. Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in sustaining offensive operations, protecting vulnerable communities and dismantling terrorist networks until lasting peace and security are fully restored across the North East. MOHAMMED GONI Captain Acting Military Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI MAIDUGURI 12 July, 2026

CAS DIRECTS OVERSIGHT OF C-130H MAINTENANCE IN PORTUGAL, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SAFETY AND READINESS The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force's (NAF) unwavering commitment to aircraft safety, airworthiness and operational readiness by directing a high-level delegation to Portugal to assess the ongoing Periodic Depot Maintenance (PDM) of C-130H aircraft NAF 913. Led by the Chief of Aircraft Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Olufemi Samson Ogunsina, alongside the Commander, 631 Aircraft Maintenance Depot, Air Commodore Eric Kpokpogri, the delegation engaged Messrs OGMA – Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal on measures to facilitate the timely completion of the maintenance programme. The visit also provided an opportunity to reassure the public regarding the status of the aircraft, which had earlier proceeded abroad for its scheduled depot-level maintenance, underscoring the NAF's uncompromising commitment to safety, technical integrity and global best practices in aircraft maintenance. During the visit, the delegation inspected ongoing maintenance activities and held strategic discussions with OGMA management on optimising timelines and sustaining progress towards the aircraft's return to service. Recognising the strategic importance of the platform to national and regional airlift operations, both parties reviewed measures aimed at ensuring the successful completion of the maintenance programme. The engagement further highlighted the strong partnership between the NAF and global aerospace stakeholders in sustaining critical air capabilities and enhancing the Service's capacity to effectively support national security objectives. Beyond the ongoing maintenance programme, the delegation explored broader areas of cooperation with OGMA and other industry partners in the areas of long-term fleet support, technical training, logistics and future sustainment requirements. Discussions also examined opportunities for collaboration in emerging strategic airlift programmes, reflecting the NAF's forward-looking approach to capability development. According to the CAS, "The safety of our personnel and the airworthiness of our platforms remain paramount. We will continue to strengthen our maintenance culture and strategic partnerships to ensure that the Nigerian Air Force remains a highly professional, mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive airpower in support of national security objectives." The visit further demonstrates the NAF's commitment to preserving critical airlift capabilities and inspiring public confidence in its professionalism, resilience and technical competence. #NigerianAirForce #NAF #AircraftSafety #OperationalReadiness #Airworthiness #StrategicAirlift #AviationMaintenance #MissionReady #NationalSecurity #AirPower
