‘why It Is Challenging For Tinubu To Drop Shettima As VP’ by Islie(op): 2:03pm On Jul 10
By : Leo Sobechi

Barely 24 hours to the deadline for political parties to submit the names of nominees for the Presidential and National Assembly election, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seems set to go ahead with the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.

Checks by The Guardian revealed that despite President Tinubu‘s desire to respond to public concerns about the implications of sustaining the same faith ticket, political considerations make it imperative that he should retain Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

A close Presidency source confided in The Guardian that political stakeholders from the North East geopolitical zone had been meeting and strategizing on how to ensure that Shettima remains on the presidential ballot.

He disclosed that while many of the experienced politicians from the zone maintained that it was Tinubu’s sole right to choose his running mate, they tasked the stakeholders to explore alternative “political routes” that they could adopt if the President drops the VP.

“But many APC chieftains expressed optimism that the VP would be on the ballot as Tinubu’s running mate.”

“They said that within the past three years Senator Shettima had not done anything to warrant his replacement.

“They listed the VP’s level-headedness, focus on the job and loyalty to President Tinubu as some of the compelling reasons why the President would not change him (Shettima). Then, looking at the political situation in the country right now, there is no person that the President could choose from the north to guarantee huge winning votes than the Vice President.”

He disclosed that the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has been reaching out to influential North East elders to woo them into ADC to shore up support for former Vice President Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

Said the source: “You know that Amaechi got maximum delegate votes from North East when he contested against Tinubu for the APC ticket in 2022. This time around the ADC vice-presidential candidate has been giving us reasons why we should work for Atiku. He (Amaechi) said that President Tinubu is determined to drop Shettima and pick a weak candidate as his running mate.

“According to Amaechi, President Tinubu is already in trouble with the United States, because of the Muslim/Muslim ticket. One thing I can tell you is that the North East stakeholders have resolved to stick with Shettima. The recent appearance of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff on the Channels Television is part of the strategies that were adopted by the leaders to assure President Tinubu of our continued support and bloc votes.”

However, as at the time of filing this report, none of the APC chieftain contacted could say whether the plan to field either General Christopher Musa or Hon Yakubu Dogara as Tinubu’s running mate has been jettisoned.

“Those close to President Tinubu have told him that fielding Shettima as a place holder may be difficult to redress due to the strong provisions of the Electoral Act 2026. They suggest that the best thing to do is to drop Shettima and offer him concessions, because it would be hard to convince him (Shettima) to resign after his name has been uploaded,” a former national officer from the North Central, stated.

Tinubu is between the devil and the deep blue sea on the issue of his running mate. Repeating the muslim-muslim ticket will no longer offer him any competitive advantage in the North but will rather alienate him from the Christian middlebelt whom he has been dangling the VP ticket before as a means of winning their support. He is however, scared of offending the last remnants of support that he enjoys in the North if he drops Shettima. The matching order from America is also a factor.

This satanic combo that destroyed this nation some more after Buhari? APC will forever go down in infamy.
Re: ‘why It Is Challenging For Tinubu To Drop Shettima As VP’ by emkz: 3:19pm On Jul 10
Why exactly would Shettima be dropped? I do not think he should be dropped.

Shettima has brought a lot of stability to the Tinubu administration. He has depth, he is cerebral, and he is competent. The fears of Muslim-Muslim ticket failed as the ones who fought it have no leg to stand on again. Our issue in Nigeria is not whether those running the country are Muslims or Christians or pagans; our issue is that those who should run our affairs must be fair to all parties concerned.

I will advise Tinubu not to tinker with his ticket. Address insecurity and hunger that politicians who have no future are complaining about.

Can you drop your father? We know for a fact that Tinubu doesn't have the gumption to drop Shettima. He couldn't even make the choice of his own VP until El-Rufai made it for him. He tries to drop Shettima, he best forget the presidency.

Re: ‘why It Is Challenging For Tinubu To Drop Shettima As VP’ by givedemwotowoto:
Tinubu is in a serious problem with picking a VP for 2027 but many people don’t know.

1. Atiku is from the NE. If Tinubu drops Shettima, he becomes vulnerable in the NE. Atiku won him in the NE in 2023 already, so dropping Shettima will leave him even more vulnerable. With Buhari gone, Atiku is now king of the NE.

2. Buhari was Tinubu lifeline in the NW, but Buhari is no more. NW gave Tinubu his highest votes in 2023 and that’s why he wanted to get Kwankwaso badly but the deal failed. He has to get a VP from the NW because they gave him his highest votes, else he’ll lose the votes to Atiku and Kwankwaso

3. If Tinubu drops Shettima as VP, he has to compensate the NE with APC party chairmanship to make up for it. But then what about NC? NC gave him more votes in 2023 than NE. They’ll be furious if they lost party chairmanship to NE when they gave more votes.

PO and Atiku have him where they want him and that’s why he’s trying to get them out of the race.

grin anyone thinking Tinubu would drop shettima go wait tire…….Tinubu always reward loyalty and so far, shettima have been able to prove that……the noise about Muslim/Muslim ticket won’t even fly in 2027 because Tinubu was never known as a religious bigot unlike the gbajue, who was going to churches campaigning and telling the Christians to take their country back, like he would be president to only Christians and he was even caught on a leaked Audio call advocating for religious war……..Tinubu till 2031 grin

Tinubu will do what he wants to do. He’s not one for eye service. Despite the uproar about his running mate in 2023, he forged ahead. If he replaces Shettima nothing will still happen. Whoever he picks would have his own advantages as well.

Tinubu is running against the same people he beat in 2023 when the odds were against him, there’s no need to make changes to the winning formula when he’s now at a vantage position while they are weaker than in 2023.

He can't drop him because the VP is a placeholder for Northern Nigeria, and it will be more expensive for him to manage the outcry from his departure than to keep him.

Shetima replaced or not, Emilokan government doesn't favour the majority of the Muslim North.
Hassan Kukah has already agreed that at any point in time, the driving population of this country are majorly Christians. They receives salaries and dominates workforce even in the private sector.
Emilokan appointments also confirmed this. So, what a hell a useless outsider neo-colonial imperialist countries are saying?

The Islamic terrorism version of Islam created by Western countries/media will die natural death after this Iran war by HIS GRACE.

It is then their brainwashed islamaphobic sycophants in Nigeria will know and agree that Islam is truly religion of peace.

Badaru left and General Christopher was religiously appointed because of the same US, tell me what has changed about insecurities in the country, it even get worse.

Every Fulani herdsmen menace was on top of late Buhari just because he is Fulani by tribe, with the same people saying, he is the their sponsor and that when government head changes there will be peace, what really changed after Buhari? Nothing but even worse.

CRIME HAS NO RELIGION NOR TRIBE.

Why are you listening to all these people. When in 2023 it was more risky for him to fly the muslim muslim ticket, he risked it, is it now that he will want to change Shettima?

Many of these hobidients think Tinubu is as dull as their lamba who is easily swayed by social media direction.

Why should he drop Shettima? Is Shettima not a Nigerian? Shettima cannot be disenfranchised because he is a Muslim.

This issue must be tackled once and for all. Any Nigerian can aspire to any elective position irrespective of tribe or religion. It is left for the electorates to make their choice.

The replacement of the Minister of Defence with a Christian has not made any impact on security.

Between 1979 to 1983, Lateef Jakande and Rafiu Jafojo were both Muslim. There was a time Awolowo contested Presidency with a Christian Vice.

Tinubu should not change Shettima. Dropping Shettima because of Religion is a Social Disenfranchisement of Shettima.
