The End Of "I Pass My Neighbour"? Lagos' New Electricity Power Plants by Gpropertys(op): 10:23am On Jul 10
Imagine a Lagos where homes and businesses no longer depend on generators.

The Lagos State Government is quietly rolling out one of the biggest power reforms in Nigeria's history—from a 2,000MW electricity expansion to dedicated power plants for Victoria Island and an independent 24-hour power grid for Eko Atlantic.

Could this finally be the beginning of the end for "I pass my neighbour" generators?

More importantly, what does this mean for businesses, property prices, and everyday Lagosians?

We broke everything down in this video with facts, visuals, and simple explanations.

Do you think Lagos can truly solve its electricity problem, or is this just another promise? Let's discuss.

And those by products of our manifest olodo culturisation will be shouting tinubu should give them 24hrs electricity like he will just pul it out of his arse...... dey dia dey wait make tinubu give you 24hrs power, noh go ask your state gov what he is doing to leverage the power sector decentralisation act tinubu already put in place.

Abia, lagos, bayelsa are already trailblazers in this regard and the electricity act 2023 and the electricity amendment act 2024 & 2026 signed by tinubu has made this possible.

That will be very welcome development.

As Power have already been removed from the exclusive list, Let each state generate, transmit and distribute their respective power.. just like Abia

That’s why we need to have states generate and sell power to end users, including private firms too

Indeed. Say anything positive about Lagos and their automatic reaction is to find something negative to present.

Generator and other forms of artificial power generation business men won't be happy with this news grin

But it's still a good news.

Just to make it public that just last week or so, there was no power supply in Ikorudu area for about 8 straight days and it didn't make headlines, isn't Ikorudu part of Lagos?

It's all very well, but the APC government is still strangling the power sector by refusing to remove power subsides, and tacking power theft, and ending price controls on the power sector, which is depriving the power sector of much needed investment,.

It is not a matter of building power stations, it is a matter of their sustainability. If there is no means of giving the power stations financial sustainability, there is no way they will work , and there would be no funds for upgrades

You can abuse me, you can say I am a tinubu supporter, you can say I am evil, you can call me all names, but no business in the world survives by government setting its prices for them at absurd low levels. That lays the ground for corruption, stealing and chopping money, and bad service.

Which is how we have been ruining our power sector.

Again, before you abuse me, think. If you were so rich that you had 100 billion dollars to invest in the power sector, where most customers including government and Aso villa do not pay cost reflective tarrif or in the GSM sector, where cost reflective tarrifs are guaranteed and are paid by everyone from the poor to the very very rich..., which one would you invest in.?

Let's end government by propaganda, and start government by seriousness, and really taking hard decisions. Removing fuel subsidy is not the only hard decision that needs to be taken. We got to face the cold reality that only a system that guarantees an end to subsidy, power theft, cost reflective tarrifs for power, is the only way we can have light 24/7. No ifs, no buts, no 'we are paying for poor service....when the power sector cannot guarantee you good service because there is no guaranteed ROI for the people with money to invest.

Lagos will definitely achieve power sufficiency but it will be phased with areas like Lekki, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Ikeja etal gaining 24/7 optimal power supply because power sector investors , seeking decent returns on their investment, will gravitate towards areas that can pay cost-reflective tariffs.

Great expectations. Great move

But una for wait until Abuja gives orders.
Or Abuja orders that current generated by LASG must be fed to the National grid,

Under one Nigeria of quasi unitary government led by Oligarchs and arrangee presidents, the southern regions of Nigeria were meant to wait for Arewa to catch up, no matter how long it takes.

Reason I read ur epistle to the end is I was thinking you will mention something like licensing states and individuals with ability to build power stations across the country to solve power problem.

Dubai was flooded this year. USA and many western nations experience flooding from time to time. Accra and major cities across the coastline in west Africa had massive flooding this year. Aba was flooded despite not being close to the coastlines

Very unintelligent of you to type this in a public fora. Shame on you

Stale news from before 2015.
Stop your propaganda recycling of fake news.

pendy79:
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Sunday evening boasted that he could provide uninterrupted power supply to Lagos residents between six and eight months.

Fashola spoke at the commissioning of 8.5 megawatts Lekki Independent Power Project (IPP), the fifth of such power projects in the last five years in the state.

The governor said the addition of the Lekki IPP was a testament to the fact that stable power does not require rocket science to achieve in the country.

While challenging power distribution companies in the state, Fashola said, “Let the Eko DISCOs sign a contract with me, giving part of their concessioning to the state government, in about six to eight months, there will be power in all homes in Lagos State,” Fashola said.

He added, “So, let no one say that he has no money to deliver power for the entire country. This is the limit to which the law allows us to do, but we have done this to make a statement that power can be generated. So, when they come with lies that power is impossible, you can tell them that we have power here; we make it possible”.

The project, courtesy of the state government, in partnership with Heritage Bank, is to serve Lagos State Water Corporations in Lekki Phase 1, Oniru, Victoria Island and Ikoyi, as well as over 25km of public lightening in the Lekki axis.

Which 2 years? Something that has been in construction for many years. You make it look as if it was Otti that achieved it. Something that Berth Nnaji started under Jonathan and simply completed now. Abia success is due mostly to Jonathan govt that encouraged him and Buharis govt that refused to frustrate him. Otti has no hand in it. He is just a beneficiary of other peoples efforts.

I support that, but is someone going to generate power, whether state or individual and then sell it at a price way below what it cost to produce that power because government mandates that they do so?..and thus lose money, and be paid subsides that do not cover the resulting losses?..plus they would be unable to cover rising costs of things like new generating equipment, maintenance, gas, etc...etc.?

See the problem.?
