The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as the running mate to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, confirming the continuation of the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The announcement was made on Friday during the party’s official unveiling ceremony in Abuja, ending weeks of speculation that President Tinubu might replace Shettima with a northern Christian to address concerns over religious balancing.

Among those widely rumoured as possible replacements were former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.

Speaking at the event, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, addressed party members and leaders, while the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, later confirmed to journalists that Shettima had been retained as the APC’s vice-presidential candidate.

The confirmation comes just hours before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) closes its portal for the submission of presidential and National Assembly candidates. The electoral commission fixed Saturday, July 11, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to upload the names of their nominated candidates.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by several APC governors, including Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Babagana Zulum (Borno), and the governors of Jigawa and Kebbi states.

Also present was Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, who attended the event alongside other party stakeholders.

Tinubu is still not returning, before February 2027 something dramatic will happen that will change the political atmosphere leading to a landslide defeat of Apc across board.
