The Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has continued to sustain its operational momentum across the North East Theatre, recording another series of significant successes through relentless Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, intelligence-led missions and coordinated security efforts aimed at denying terrorist groups freedom of action.

On 7 July 2026, troops of 115 Task Force Battalion, while conducting ongoing Search and Rescue operations in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, successfully rescued two additional abductees from a terrorist hideout. During the operation, troops recovered cash of One Million Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N1,200,000.00) suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities, food items and other logistics believed to have supported terrorist operations. The rescued victims have since been evacuated to a secure location where they are receiving appropriate medical care and psychosocial support.

During the same period, troops of Operation HADIN KAI deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State under Sector One successfully contained a coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists. Although the insurgents briefly exploited a section of the base’s defensive perimeter during the intense firefight, the troops rapidly regrouped, mounted a determined counter-offensive and decisively expelled the attackers, inflicting significant casualties and forcing the surviving terrorists to flee with varying degrees of gunshot wounds. Regrettably, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price, while two gun trucks and some combat enablers sustained damage during the engagement. The situation at FOB Logomani remains firmly under the control of Operation HADIN KAI troops, with reinforcements deployed, exploitation operations ongoing and additional measures being implemented to further strengthen the defensive resilience of the location.

In another operational success, troops of 232 Battalion, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended a notorious criminal in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Follow-up exploitation of the arrest led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, two magazines and twenty-eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The suspect and recovered items are currently in military custody, while further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network.

Similarly, troops of 149 Battalion arrested two suspected terrorist logistics suppliers in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State. The recovered items include cash sums, a Volkswagen Golf vehicle, construction materials, household items and other supplies suspected to have been destined for terrorist elements. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, while the recovered items remain in military custody as investigations continue.

As part of ongoing offensive operations, troops of 24 Task Force Brigade, in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, conducted a clearance operation on known terrorist enclaves around Wulgo. During the operation, troops exploited the terrorists’ hasty withdrawal and recovered a sack containing assorted illicit drugs abandoned by the fleeing insurgents. The recovery further underscores the sustained pressure being mounted on terrorist elements, denying them freedom of movement and disrupting their operational capabilities.

Additionally, six suspected ISWAP terrorist alongside their families surrendered to troops of 192 Battalion (Main) Sector 1 OPHK. Preliminary investigation revealed that the family escaped from Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide terrorist enclaves on the Mandara mountains in Gwoza LGA. Items recovered from the terrorist and their families includes cumulative sum of One Million Five Hundred and Forty One Thousand Five Hundred Naira (N1,541,500.00), two tecno mobile phones amongst other items. Relatedly, Troops apprehend suspected BHT/ISWAP logistics supplier in Molai checkpoint in possession of large quantities of medical supplies without due clearance. Suspect and the items are in custody for further interrogation.

In Sector 2 Area of Responsibility, Troops of 233 Tank Battalion in conjunction with Hunters intercepted and arrested a suspected BHT/ISWAP terrorist logistics supplier from Ngirya village of Tarmuwa LGA with five motorcycle tires. The suspect and items are in military custody for investigation.

These latest operational gains underscore the effectiveness of sustained offensive operations, actionable intelligence and the seamless collaboration among security agencies and auxiliary forces in dismantling terrorist logistics networks, disrupting criminal activities and protecting vulnerable communities across the North East.

Headquarters Operation HADIN KAI assures the public that ongoing Search and Rescue operations will continue with unwavering resolve until every abducted person is accounted for and safely reunited with their families. The Theatre Command also issues a stern warning to individuals involved in supplying food, fuel, construction materials, transportation or any other form of logistics to terrorist groups to immediately desist. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has achieved another significant milestone in its fleet modernisation efforts with the successful completion of a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) on an additional batch of three AW109 Trekker Type B helicopters at the Leonardo Helicopters facility in Vergiate, Italy. Conducted from 29 June to 3 July 2026 by a delegation comprising representatives of the NAF and the Ministry of Defence, the exercise highlights the Federal Government's sustained commitment to strengthening Nigeria's air power capabilities and enhancing the operational readiness of the Armed Forces to effectively address evolving security challenges.
The comprehensive inspections and flight evaluations undertaken during the acceptance exercise confirmed that the helicopters fully met contractual specifications and operational requirements ahead of their delivery to Nigeria. The successful exercise further underscores the steady progress of the NAF's fleet modernisation programme and the Service's determination to induct only reliable, mission-ready platforms capable of delivering decisive air power effects. Upon induction, the AW109 Trekker Type B helicopters will significantly enhance intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, close air support, armed escort, combat search and rescue missions, as well as other joint operations in support of surface forces across various theatres of operation.
Commenting on the milestone, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, stated that the dynamic nature of contemporary security threats demands agile, technologically advanced and mission-ready air capabilities, noting that the additional helicopters will further strengthen the NAF's capacity to deliver decisive air power effects in synergy with surface forces, deny criminal elements freedom of action and enhance national security. useless government YES worse and clueless chiefs NO. Mention to me what they're haven't done compared to other service chiefs. The family of the victims wanted negotiations, infact it was the first right step to take, it took a really long time then it stalled.
Special Operations units from ONSA and DHQ are currently in the forest for the rescue operation.
In the initial phase of the rescue during negotiations period we lost two men during heavy clashes, the terrorists are large the area is laden with IEDs it would take awhile but they'll be out soon

Troops of 19 Brigade, Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have decisively foiled an attempted infiltration by ISWAP terrorists into Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers and forcing them to retreat in disarray. The successful defence of the location further demonstrates the vigilance, combat readiness and operational effectiveness of troops who continue to deny terrorist elements freedom of action across the North East Theatre.

The failed attack occurred at about 2220 hours (10:20 p.m.) on 11 July 2026, when the terrorists attempted to exploit the cover of darkness to breach the troops' location. Alert troops swiftly detected the hostile movement and responded with coordinated and overwhelming firepower, compelling the terrorists to abandon their mission of looting cholera medical supplies and withdraw in confusion after suffering severe losses. The attempted looting further lends credence to recent intelligence reports of a cholera outbreak within terrorist enclaves, as well as reports of the execution of some affected members by the group.

[/b]The neutralisation of a terrorist cameraman during the failed assault led to the recovery of a Sony camcorder containing highly sensitive recordings of terrorist activities, including operational footage and propaganda materials. Preliminary forensic analysis of the last available video recorded prior to the attack indicates that the operation was coordinated by four senior ISWAP commanders (Qai'ds), alongside three foreign terrorist facilitators. They include a Palestinian Arab identified as Abu Ishaq, assessed to be ISWAP's overall trainer; a Moroccan Arab identified as Abu Thaiba, a medical doctor serving within the terrorist network; and another Arab operative whose identity is yet to be established. The presence and active involvement of these foreign nationals further reinforces intelligence assessments that ISWAP continues to benefit from external support, specialist expertise and transnational terrorist linkages[b]

Following the successful engagement, troops immediately dominated the area and conducted exploitation operations to ascertain the full extent of the terrorists' losses. During the operation, troops recovered the Sony camcorder, several rounds of PKT and 7.62 mm Special ammunition, terrorist uniforms and other combat enablers. Initial analysis of post-engagement satellite imagery revealed terrorists evacuating the bodies of some of their neutralised fighters during their withdrawal. This has since been corroborated by credible human intelligence sources, which confirmed that the terrorists suffered heavy casualties, with many others sustaining gunshot wounds during the engagement. Two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds during the firefight and were promptly evacuated by air for advanced medical care. Both personnel remain in stable condition.

The failed infiltration attempt represents yet another significant operational setback for ISWAP and caps a costly weekend for the terrorist group following sustained offensive operations and intensified military pressure across the North East Theatre. The outcome underscores the increasing difficulty the terrorists face in executing coordinated attacks against highly alert and combat-ready troops, while further degrading their combat capability, morale and freedom of action. Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in sustaining offensive operations, protecting vulnerable communities and dismantling terrorist networks until lasting peace and security are fully restored across the North East.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force's (NAF) unwavering commitment to aircraft safety, airworthiness and operational readiness by directing a high-level delegation to Portugal to assess the ongoing Periodic Depot Maintenance (PDM) of C-130H aircraft NAF 913. Led by the Chief of Aircraft Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Olufemi Samson Ogunsina, alongside the Commander, 631 Aircraft Maintenance Depot, Air Commodore Eric Kpokpogri, the delegation engaged Messrs OGMA – Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal on measures to facilitate the timely completion of the maintenance programme. The visit also provided an opportunity to reassure the public regarding the status of the aircraft, which had earlier proceeded abroad for its scheduled depot-level maintenance, underscoring the NAF's uncompromising commitment to safety, technical integrity and global best practices in aircraft maintenance.

During the visit, the delegation inspected ongoing maintenance activities and held strategic discussions with OGMA management on optimising timelines and sustaining progress towards the aircraft's return to service. Recognising the strategic importance of the platform to national and regional airlift operations, both parties reviewed measures aimed at ensuring the successful completion of the maintenance programme. The engagement further highlighted the strong partnership between the NAF and global aerospace stakeholders in sustaining critical air capabilities and enhancing the Service's capacity to effectively support national security objectives.

Beyond the ongoing maintenance programme, the delegation explored broader areas of cooperation with OGMA and other industry partners in the areas of long-term fleet support, technical training, logistics and future sustainment requirements. Discussions also examined opportunities for collaboration in emerging strategic airlift programmes, reflecting the NAF's forward-looking approach to capability development. According to the CAS, "The safety of our personnel and the airworthiness of our platforms remain paramount. We will continue to strengthen our maintenance culture and strategic partnerships to ensure that the Nigerian Air Force remains a highly professional, mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive airpower in support of national security objectives."
