Residents of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have erupted in wild celebrations following the successful rescue of students and teachers who spent 56 days in captivity after being abducted by armed bandits.

The emotional scenes showed people dancing in the streets, singing songs of thanksgiving, embracing one another, and praising God as news of the victims' safe return spread across the community.

The victims were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, during coordinated attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, where dozens of pupils and teachers were taken into the forest by heavily armed gunmen.

According to the Presidency, the victims were rescued during a coordinated operation involving Nigerian security agencies. Eight suspected kidnappers were arrested, while several others were reportedly neutralised during the operation. The Presidency also stated that the rescue was carried out without any concession to the kidnappers' demands.

The rescue has brought immense relief to families, residents, and Nigerians who closely followed the tragic incident over the past several weeks.

When one Oyo lawmaker said the kidnappers wanted one billion naira ransom,the kidnappers made a video telling Nigerians that the only thing they were asking for was for FG to release their leaders,that they need not any ransom.
The video is online.
I was just listening to one broadcaster called Kola Olootu saying that Igboho said they were around Cotonou where they traced the kidnappers to.
He said Igboho sent a lot of videos to him about the rescue but he was told to keep them confidential.
Igboho team facilitated the rescue with the collaboration of security agencies.
