When it comes to biblical discussions like this,am always careful not to engage in a debate with heathens and atheist, because it's like the case of beating or flogging a dead horse, the ten commandments are simply guidelines handed to mankind to guide and direct them on how to please their maker and doing so, prevent the wrath and the consequences that follows with those actions and also how to have a cool relationship with your neighbors and the people around,I don't know why anyone would say God has ego,are you serious right now?do you really think God need your approval to be God?do you really think if we disobey Him,He cease to be God?do you think if we steal, murder and commit attrocities, that God will be punished?do you think God need anything from man to make him God?hell no,God is God whether you are a atheist, heathen or whatever, those commandments are for the good of mankind

TheMadame:
Jesus modified these ten commandments into two commandments in the New Testament . Jesus said:
1. Love your God with all your heart
and soul.

2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

This is found in the Gospel of Mathew Chapter 22. Verses 37-39.

Chapter 22.

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.

Does all morality come from the 10 commandments and the subsequent paraphrasing by our Lord Jesus Christ? I sincerely believe it does. The 10 commandments are the basis of all forms of morality and moral justice.
Love God with all your heart and do onto your neighbor as you will have them do onto you.

Good day everyone.
It’s actually deeper than the 10 commandments, their are 602 Laws and ordinances alongside the 10 commandments making it all 612.

No Human being born of a woman can attain anything from God by the commandments and by the Law, the Bible says by works shall no Man be justified.

Even Moses by His own Laws and ordinances He was almost striked out. The promise Land being a typology of Heaven, Moses only saw it, He nor enter.

He told them thou shall not kill, Jesus Christ comes to tell them, if You hate Your brother in Your heart, You have already killed Him.
What killed Moses?
ANGER!!.

One of the reasons why Jesus Christ said it is impossible for a Man to go to the Kingdom of God but with God all things are possible.

The only route back home to God is Jesus Christ, He said in John chapter I, for in Him was life and the Life was the Light of Men.

You are Spirit first, Living in a Body that has a mind that is fed by Oxygen.
The moment You drop that body back to dust where it belongs, oxygen becomes useless, Spirit nor dey use oxygen.

No man can keep the law.
You cannot tell me that since this week You have kept all 612 Laws, that You have not had any bad thoughts or get irritated or angry with someone, nobody is good is what Jesus Christ proclaims.

Just set Your heart right for Your God and Father to work out His goodness, love for Real, don't just love for expectations, love unconditionally.
Keep Your heart and hands away from evil.
Set Your heart on the motherless and fatherless and less privilege.
Seek to develop deeper and stronger connection with communication with the Holy Spirit.

You will be very happy as a born again if You accomplish things.

Shalom.

All religions and gods therein are mere creations from the minds of men to suppress and control other men. The sooner you realise this is the quicker you free yourself from the fish bowl syndrome that holds your intellectual capacity hostage of man made religion.

Go back and read the first commandment on that list with your intellect and think deeply what it means?!

The first commandment goes like this:

1. "YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME...."

Reading this critically, you come to realise this god accepts and knows there are other gods beside him but his ego, insecurities, narcissism and vanity will not allow him tolerate the worship of other gods.
Obviously this god knows it is man made as are all the other thousands of various gods.

Except you free your mind and way of thinking you will remain a prisoner of the religious fish bowl.

Besides, do you not have wiz kid, burna boy, Davido, Messi, Ronaldo as your gods? Don't they exist? So as you made them exist go to their doors and land and do as you like and let them save you from other gods and God after all God did call your name when He said you shall not have any other God. So, you can take it that He was not talking to you

Those first four commandments scream about the vanity and ego of the God in question. They scream,ME!ME!! and only ME!!!
Don't you find it incredibly strange that there is no condemnation of a evil vice like slavery in these ten commandments?

Show me one place in your holy book where just one of the holy men inclusive of Jesus, condemned slavery just once!!!

bro you are condemned already for being a slave to sin which Jesus came to set you free from.

By the way did you know not all slaves were forced or slaves of war, some where situational slaves who sold themselves off so as to survive

Slavery was also a fun of punishment like imprisonment,

Like I said, you can twist and turn as much as you like until you become a pretzel. The simple fact is that the god of the Christian Bible, his son Jesus and all the holy men in that Bible support SLAVERY and SLAVE TRADE.
In fact, historically slave traders in the Americas regularly quoted passages from this same Bible to justify the evil slave trade and equally used this same Bible to keep negros subservient and placid.

Continue to decieve yourself and those you can mislead but be informed that that book is a compilation by men acting as editors and it is an evil book that has been used to manipulate mankind for centuries.

Atheism,is what happens to you when you read the Bible by yourself. Christianity on the other hand is what happens when someone else reads the Bible for/to you.

Good day everyone.
This is a false conclusion! Jesus Christ of Israel never modified the 10 commandments. Rather, he amplified the fact that Leviticus 19 vs 20, " Love them as you love your own self," is in fact the summation of the last 9 out of the first 10 commandments that were given to Moses. undecided

Basically, the first 10 commandments defined how one went about loving the YHWH of Israel and loving one's neighbor, with the first commandment being the greatest, whereas the combination of the other 9 that followed it makes up what is the second greatest of all the commandments that were given; about 613 commandments and statutes were given in total. 😒

➜Do Christians still need to obey the law? God gave the ten commandments to Moses for the children of Israel.
➜Later Jesus emphasized two of the ten as the greatest.
➜ After Jesus, Paul cancelled the law! If you come to Paul with the law he'll roll with you like a lawyer. If you come to Paul as a law-less person, he'll roll with you likewise
!
The entire books of the Law contains approximately 600 commandments and statutes given to the children of Israel through Moses, of which what is regarded today as the 10 commandments are the base laws defining what it means to love on an individual level for all Israelites. undecided

2. Jesus Christ never changed anything of the Old Law; he simply reiterated what was already stated by Moses in the Law of the land of Israel, the Law under which every Israelite is born into the world. undecided

3. Paul did not cancel any of the laws of Moses; no man has power to do any such. Your ignorance of the opinions of Paul is one thing; putting your own delusions into his mouth is another thing. undecided

Who has not read the whole story?
This is the preceding verse, where is the anger you claimed?

*And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also"

Rather, the verse i pointed out to you shows you clearly what God Saw Moses did and He gave that Judgement you know on it. And you even raised Deuteronomy which said "faith" as if believe is not faith.

Another error. Paul did not admonish You to just read scripture, He says study to show Yourself approved, when You study it's a different ball game from when You read, when You study, You search, research, query, always pay close attention to details You only just read through but didn't pay attention.

The Israelites complaints, rebellious mentality got the better part of Moses, and that obviously made Him loose His cool, was He supposed to strike the rock twice??

Earlier, God had explicitly told Moses to strike a rock for water (which he did once, obediently).

In Numbers 20, the command changed to speaking to the rock — symbolizing a different lesson about trust and God's word alone sufficing. Moses reverted to the previous method and did it twice which was due to His lost for cool with the constant complaining of the Israelites.

using harsh language and claiming shared credit "We" rather than attributing it to God,is enough that Moses was not in His right mental composure.

Lucifyre:
If anyone thinks morality stems from the ten commandments you're either uninformed, misinformed, ignorant or a combination. To which I simply say, just educate urself. If you only know what's right and wrong because of what's in a bronze age book - which you arbitrarily choose what to adhere to and not - and beacuse of the threat some sort of punishment or promise of some sort of reward... Well you're a grave danger to society, cause lord knows what you'd do if the tiny illusionary tether is cut off.
Interesting argument! You are against people thinking to source their ideas from the Constitutions of nations past -- the Law of Moses, of which the 10 commandments belong, is the constitution of the ancient nation of Israel. My question is then, how do we determine right and wrong without ever consulting the wisdom of the past? undecided

Now you have moved post from claiming the preceding verse shows the anger where it did not as i have shown and therefore this belief is unfounded here

For God Himself is the One Who Stated clearly the reason for Moses's action or do you want to say that you and all the people who have been saying this see better than God?

You can't be changing what God Himself Saw and pronounced upon.

God Said
12And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

These words are very clear and bright as day and no one can darken it or substitute it

There was no "you shall not enter the promise land" in the other case or cases, so you cannot be raising them here.

What Paul said there is what Jesus Christ of Israel declared that He came to do. He came to give them a new way so that those who would accept him could accept the condemnation/curse of the old way/law, aka the Law of Moses, and obtain a part to righteousness again - John 3 vs 1 - 21. Also, Jesus Christ of Israel famously declared that not a jot of God's Law and Truth will ever pass away--- the Law of Moses(the Torah) AND the Gospel of Jesus are both Eternal. So, by what power do you accuse Paul of canceling the Law of Power? 😒

2. Jesus Christ of Israel --- The (Spirit of) Truth and (Spirit of) Life --- died and rose from the dead 3 days later, and ascended to the right hand of YHWH approximately 40 days later to claim His throne at the right hand of YHWH, as the story goes. So, exactly when did which Spirit cancel the Law of Moses, against the will of Jesus Christ of Israel? 😒

I hope you know and understand that once you love your neighbor as you love yourself and do onto your neighbor as you would do unto yourself, you will not enslave them. Some of these laws simply need a thought process. It is not every morality that need to be written down.
When the Israelites were oppressing the Moabites was that a form of 'love your neighbour'? When the Moabites stopped sending tribute and tried to break free why did their God tell them to attack and destroy the Moabites?
The biggest joke inside is that when the Moabites resisted with their own form of spiritual power the Israelite god could do nothing to protect them.

1. Actually, on a national scale, it was because, if you read the same Law of Moses, you would find laws there that specifically deal with the relationship the nation of Israel was to have with neighboring countries, as well as other matters. undecided

2. Love is as defined by the YHWH of Israel for the Israelites in His Law. It is not some feel-good emotional nonsense. The Moabites broke the treaty that existed between both nations, leading to the action that followed. 😒

16 and he said, “This is what the Lord says: I will fill this valley with pools of water.
17 For this is what the Lord says: You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you, your cattle and your other animals will drink.
18 This is an easy thing in the eyes of the Lord; he will also deliver Moab into your hands.
19 You will overthrow every fortified city and every major town. You will cut down every good tree, stop up all the springs, and ruin every good field with stones.” - 2 Kings 3 vs 14- 19
Elisha said the 3 kings would accomplish the following.
➜ overthrow every fortified city and every major town
➜ cut down every good tree, stop up all the springs
➜ and ruin every good field with stones

The reaction of the king of Moab after all that had been accomplished --- after the battle had gone against him -- was to sacrifice his heir. That was not a win for the king of Moab, but rather, another devastating loss for him. undecided
