Tributes as 28-year-old lieutenant killed during Oyo rescue operation is laid to rest

Felix Ademe Isaac, a 28-year-old Lieutenant of the Nigerian Army, who was killed during the operation to rescue the teachers and pupils abducted from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has been laid to rest.

The deceased was killed while leading troops to rescue the victims who regained freedom on July 10, 2026.

Daily Trust had reported how gunmen invaded three schools – Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School – on May 15, 2026, whisking the victims into the forest.

There are different reports on the death of the officer. While some said his convoy was hit by explosives set by terrorists at the National Park in Oyo, others said he ran into a landmine set by the Ansaru terrorists identified as the group behind the abduction.

Born on August 25, 1997, Lt. Isaac was laid to rest, with full military honours, at the 23rd Armoured Brigade Cemetery in Yola, Adamawa State capital, on July 10, 2026.

Isaac was not the only one who died in the rescue operation that eventually yielded results, two days ago.

The Nigerian Army briefly made reference to this in a statement issued after the victims regained freedom.

“It suffices to note that the operations were carefully planned and executed to avoid collateral damages and to equally ensure that the innocent children and teachers were safely rescued. However, there were some casualties on the part of the security forces,” the statement read.

On his part, Governor Seyi Makinde said, “Really grateful for the safe return of the children and teachers abducted from Oriire LGA 56 days ago. Our priority now is to ensure they are reunited with their families and support their rehabilitation after this traumatic experience.

“We also commend the security agencies that took part in the rescue operations for their sacrifices. May the souls of those who paid the ultimate price rest in peace and may God comfort their families.”

Security operatives from more than 10 agencies took part in the operation led by Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife, General Officer Commanding 2 Division of the Nigerian Army.

Below are some of the tributes paid to the deceased:

Oyo Affairs wrote: “Here is one of the officers Governor Seyi Makinde mentioned, who paid the supreme sacrifice while trying to rescue the abducted Oriire teachers and schoolchildren. May the soul of Lt. Felix Ademe Isaac rest in peace. 💔”

Tweeting via @Rise_Forge, one Sir Kay, wrote, “Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac was a gallant Nigerian Army officer who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the 2026 operation to rescue abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State.

“A courageous and dedicated combat officer, he exemplified selfless service, professionalism and unwavering commitment to duty. He was laid to rest with full military honours on 10 July 2026 at the 23 Armoured Brigade Cemetery, Yola. His sacrifice remains a lasting symbol of courage and devotion to the Defence of Nigeria. May his gentle soul continue to rest in peace 🕊️”

Toju weston, who tweeted via @TojuWes, wrote, “Late LT FA Issac was laid to rest yesterday. He fell in the line of duty during the initial phase of Oyo rescue Ops. While others celebrate the return of the hostages, his family mourns💔. Rest easy soldier your sacrifice was not in vain, the kids are back.”

Zaggy, tweeting via @Zaggyszn, said, “My Friend Died in the process of Rescuing those kids. RIP Ademe ❤️”

@DejiAdesogan said, “Remember His Name. Never Forget His Sacrifice. Late Lieutenant FA Isaac

“He answered the call of duty without hesitation. In the brave effort to rescue kidnapped victims in Orire, he paid the ultimate price, laying down his own life so that others could live.

“Same yesterday that Troops Rescued the Oyo-Oriire Pupils and Teachers, he was also laid to rest with honour, but his courage, selflessness, and sacrifice will never be buried. He stood where many would have fled, fought when others feared, and gave everything for people he may never have known.

“May we never forget the cost of the peace and security we often take for granted. Heroes like him deserve our eternal gratitude and remembrance. Rest in perfect peace, Gallant Soldier. Your watch has ended, but your legacy lives on forever.”

@Optama said, “RIP to Lt. FA Isaac, who was killed in the early days of this rescue operation. In a heartbreaking twist of events, he was laid to rest today, and the victims were finally released

“This is one of the names I hope will be immortalised by the AFN, Oyo State, & the Nigerian government.”

Bolanle Olusola, who tweeted via @LadiBolanle, said, “RIP to Lt. FA Isaac, who was killed in the early days of this rescue operation. In a heartbreaking twist of events, he was laid to rest today that the victims were finally released. Say thank you to a soldier today. They are paid usually less than the basic wage the rest of us.”

Let me now explain how Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac lost his life during the operation to rescue the 44 abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State.

I first posted about his death which carried "June 6", but some people claimed it was false because the rescue operation was carried out on July 10. They insisted that no soldier died and that the entire story was scripted.

Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac was a 28-year-old Nigerian Army officer who tragically lost his life while leading the initial assault team during the rescue mission.

Under the leadership of Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife, a multi-agency security team launched an intelligence-led operation in the Old Oyo National Park.

Lt. Isaac was at the forefront of the assault, courageously leading the breach and firing the first shots at the kidnappers' hideout.

During the operation, his convoy ran into improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and landmines planted by the terrorists. He sustained fatal injuries during the early phase of the mission and later died from a gun shot.

Lt. Isaac was laid to rest with full military honours on July 10, 2026; the same day the 44 victims regained their freedom. He was buried at the 23rd Armoured Brigade Cemetery in Yola, Adamawa State.

After 56 days in captivity, all 44 pupils, students, and teachers were successfully rescued unharmed without the payment of any ransom.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State paid glowing tribute to Lt. Isaac's exceptional bravery, publicly acknowledging his ultimate sacrifice during an official briefing.

So please, don't say it was scripted. It was real. May we never fall victim to any unforeseen circumstances. Amen.

ATM ✍🏾

I will not include his picture on a motorcycle. It does not do justice to the sacrifice this gallant soldier paid for Nigeria.

Everyone must die eventually, but willingly embarking on a mission knowing that your chances of returning alive are no better than 50-50 is among the greatest sacrifices anyone can make.

Sadly, the very people for whom this sacrifice is made are often the ones who criticize and insult you from the comfort of their homes. Yet, you have now paid the supreme price so that they may continue to live in that peace and comfort.

May the Almighty grant you eternal rest, and may He give the family you left behind the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss.

Gunshot wound, landmine
Which particular cause of death should we take?

Baba died on 6th June during rescue operation.
Pupils were released almost a week after in a kinetic operation and the only casualty was the baba that died a week ago?

Fuji house of commotion.

May he rest in peace.....it's so unfortunate he is a in country where the leaders don't value the lives of his likes....if they apprehend the people responsible for his death now, they'll release them and even give them some incentives in the name of "repentant terrorists".

There have been rescue operations before this one with nobody raising an eyebrow.

But when people spot unusual inconsistencies, expect them to point it out.

Nigerians are neither daft nor zombies.
This nation has some of the most intelligent brains on earth and you can't throw lamba at the whole nation and expect everyone to take it lying low.

The story reaching us is that this story is lies from pit of hell. He wasn't killed during the rescue...he was killed by armed Fulani bandit in Igbapera.
