Gbudu gbudu gbudu gbudu…. Na him I Dey hear most times when driving.

And I changed that shock this Jan at ladipo be like na low quality them sell cause I have been managing with the noise for a while now almost 4month counting but the sound is now getting worse

How much did you spend to replace your shocks boss?

Hello guys please I have a question.
With a N5m budget, is it realistic to find a good corollar for bolt/taxify? I’m based in Benin looking to get into the ride sharing business. I’ll also appreciate and tips or advice thank you.

The entire Lagos roads are not in perfect condition now, just avoid the worst areas and manage the ones that are fair.
Places like Ago Palace/Festac/Amuwo Odofin/Mile 2 and its environs/Apapa/Ikorodu/Ikotun-Egbe-Ejigbo/the whole Ojo axis, should be avoided by all means.

For island, updates have shown areas with extreme flood, na to avoid dem.

The rainy season that we are is really exposing the poor quality of roads they have done, and are doing.
There's a lot of road repair awaiting the government once we enter dry season.

If you can avoid the avoidable, just manage the ones wey you enter with unexpected flood.

Are there people on here who drive Bolt using these electric cars. I'll like to hear our honest experience/opinions esp with regards to earnings & battery capacity to run a whole day.
In Abuja, I met someone who does but he's barely one week on Bolt & na Nepo baby. I hear it's also done in Lagos.

The electric car/sedan cost 24-25m and one will have to deposit 2m and pay 35-40k daily for 18months before the car becomes yours.

We'd also be required to park/charge the car daily at the designated charging station for this period.
Note that the car isn't new, it is brought into Nigeria as used.
Is this a good deal? I want to hear experiences abeg, it's becoming a thing and no one is talking about it.

My concerns:
1. Earning: Are there people making 40k daily or more using this electric car?
2. Battery capacity to run a full day.
3. Any issues experienced using this car?
4. Isn't 25m too much for a used electric car?
5. The battery life after 1 year or more of heavy usage esp with regards to Bolt/I er driving daily

Let's chime in abeg

Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by sammiejr(m): 3:02pm On Jul 15
And interesting read.
I was also considering this but the 40,000 daily remittance & N25m payment was scary. Driving for 18months to meet this obligation didn't seat well with me.
As I type this more drivers are flooding to EV sellers in Abuja to be accepted into this plan but I'm very sceptical about it. During my enquiries, I saw this firsthand.

Did you drive in Lagos or Abuja?
What do you think about the fact that the EVs they sell 25million aren't even new. It's the 2019 Geely Geometry A🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

BiggyUch007:
Demerits of EV for E hailing. In Nigeria

If you check Facebook Marketplace or Jiji right now, you will see a massive flood of "Clean Used 2024 Model" Chinese Electric Vehicles (EVs) being advertised at tempting prices.

Many fleet managers and independent drivers are eyeing them to escape high petrol costs.

But hold your handbrake! I am sharing this from direct experience as an EV driver in a fleet management company where over two dozen vehicles are currently grounded and completely offline

Before you drop your hard-earned millions, here is the short, bitter truth about running these cars for e-hailing in Nigeria.

1.The Facebook "2024 Used" Trap
These are not regular used cars. China is in a brutal automotive price war. To dump massive, unsold factory inventory overseas without breaking official brand rules, trading companies register brand-new 2024 models in China for just 1 day*to generate a "used car" title, immediately deregister them, and export them. To cut costs for these price wars, manufacturers are aggressively cutting corners on electronic components and wiring harnesses, leading to rapid failures under heavy commercial use.

2.The Steep Slope Handbrake Flaw (Safety Hazard)

Most of these EVs rely 100% on rear Electronic Parking Brakes (EPB) with zero mechanical backup(no physical "Park" gear pawl locking the wheels). When you drive all day, your brake discs get hot. If you park on a steep hill and pull the electronic brake, the metal discs cool down and shrink slightly over the next few minutes. The caliper loses its grip, and the car can roll backward straight into a ditch with the handbrake fully engaged! You literally have to wedge the tires with a heavy stone just to stay safe.

3.Low Ground Clearance vs. Speed Bumps

Most Chinese EV sedans are built for smooth Asian highways. When loaded with 3 e-hailing passengers, the ground clearance drops to a shockingly low 120mm to 135mm Because the massive lithium-ion battery pack is the entire floorboard of the car, hitting those mountain-like Nigerian speed bumps directly dents and punctures the battery casing, causing the computer to permanently lock down the car.

4.The Blind "Pool of Water" Trap & Flooding

Manufacturers claim these cars are waterproof, but that is for clean laboratory testing. For standard EV sedans, the safe wading depth is only 20 to 30 cm (about 8 to 12 inches)

The Deceptive Pools:*On Nigerian roads, you will constantly meet large, stagnant pools of water. Because the water is murky, drivers have absolutely no way of knowing the actual depth or what lies beneath.

Hidden Monsters: You might think you are driving through a shallow puddle, only to drop into a massive, hidden crater. Even worse, these pools wash up sharp debris, iron rods, and heavy stones. Driving over these invisible hazards at speed forces the debris directly into the bottom of the car, violently scraping or puncturing the battery pack before you even realize what happened. Once water pressure forces its way into the damaged casing or high-voltage components, the electronics are instantly roasted.

5.The Critical Blow: The Cost of a Replacement Battery

If the battery gets ruined by a flood, a hard underbody impact, or premature degradation, you are completely finished.

A replacement EV battery pack for these vehicles costs between $8,000 to $12,000 USD (which is roughly 12 Million to 18 Million Naira excluding heavy shipping costs and clearing from China).

* Replacing the battery costs almost as much as buying another car! Combined with zero local diagnostic software support and geofenced systems that Nigerian mechanics cannot scan, a single major fault means your capital is permanently grounded.

6.The Sandy Road Trap (Instant Sinking)

We all know those unpaved, sandy streets inside some of our estates and suburbs.
In a Regular Car: If you get stuck in loose sand, you can usually turn your steering wheel left and right, press the throttle hard, rock the car, and easily escape.

In an EV: If you try that same trick, you are finished. EVs are incredibly heavy because of the battery pack, and electric motors deliver instant torque the millisecond you touch the pedal. Instead of moving forward, the tires will just spin like a high-speed blender, immediately digging deep holes and sinking the car into the ground. Once an EV sits on its belly in the sand, wiggling the steering won't save you. You will be forced to look for wood, heavy stones to jam under the tires, and pay people to manually push the car while you accelerate hard just to break free.

The Verdict:
EVs sound amazing for saving fuel, but for high-mileage Nigerian e-hailing, the infrastructure, parts supply chain, and roads are simply not ready. Don't gamble your money on a Facebook parallel import.

My brother, you have visualised the exact scam. That ₦40,000 daily remittance is a pure financial death trap for any driver, and your skepticism is 100% justified.

First, to answer your question: I’m looking at this from a Lagos perspective, but the issues apply to Abuja too (though Lagos has the added luxury of severe floods).

Let’s break down why that 2019 Geely Geometry A deal is highly risky:

1. The 2019 Geely Geometry A Reality Check
7-Year-Old Battery Health: By 2026, a 2019 EV is already hitting its 7th year. Lithium-ion batteries degrade over time regardless of mileage. If the battery capacity has dropped to even 75–80%, the actual driving range is severely compromised.

The Charging Trap: You will be forced to charge multiple times a day to meet that insane ₦40k target. In Nigeria’s current power grid landscape, if you rely on public fast chargers, you'll lose valuable driving hours just waiting in line.

Zero Parts Support: If a suspension arm, a high-voltage cable, or the AC compressor on a 2019 Chinese-spec Geometry A fails, where are you getting the replacement parts in Abuja or Lagos? Your car will sit idle for weeks while you still owe ₦40k daily.

2. The Math Just Doesn't Math
Let’s do the basic arithmetic of a ₦40,000 daily remittance:
Remittance: ₦40,000 / day
Bolt/Uber Commission (approx 20%): If you need to pocket ₦40k for remittance, plus cover your own charging/feeding/maintenance and make a profit, you need to be booking at least ₦70,000 to ₦80,000 in gross rides every single day.

The Grinding Hours: To hit ₦80k a day, you will easily have to drive 14 to 16 hours daily.

NOTE: THERE ARE EXPERIENCED DRIVERS WILL MAKE LESS THAN 10 TRIPS WITHOUT EVEN RUNNING AROUND AND WILL STILL GROSS OVER 80k MARGIN AFTER BOLT EXPENSES

One heavy traffic jam, a flat tire, or a grid power outage at the charging station, and you are in a massive deficit.

3. Overpricing Used Tech
A used 2019 Geely Geometry A is not worth ₦25 million. These are cheap, first-generation Chinese commuter EVs that fleet companies import bulk-used for cheap and then flip to desperate drivers on predatory Hire-Purchase (HP) terms.

They are transferring 100% of the risk (battery failure, low ground clearance scraping, suspension damage) onto the driver while they sit back and collect ₦1.2 million a month.

If you sign that contract, you aren't driving to own a car—you are working strictly to pay the fleet company's mortgage. Your skepticism saved you from a massive headache!"

U will find a detailed expose on EV for ehailing.
As for the daily amount, it is chicken change since it's the company that is charging the car for u. Normal cars use approx 30k fuel daily and will still deliver their rental or HP so 40k daily is very doable if u still want to venture despite the drawbacks .
Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by sammiejr(m): 5:22pm On Jul 15
I just did. Thanks.

A valid concern is that these car aren't new. These cars were made in 2019 and has been used before being shipped over here. We cannot guarantee the battery efficiency after heavy usage for 18months to repay this HP debt. Anyone accepting such will have to attach an addendum well drafted by a lawyer so you don't fall into a trap where you as the driver bear all the risk. I'll however like to hear from people who use these cars. Thanks for you valid input

Anyone accepting such contract will have to attach an addendum well drafted by a lawyer so you don't fall into a trap where you as the driver bear all the risk.

Abuja has mostly good days but we do experience traffic (morning & Evening rush hour) and sometimes unpredictable flood in the city centre which quickly dissipates. However, it's no where close to Lagos.

If the cars were new, I won't mind keying into the deal but they aren't.

The company is responsible for maintenance during the contract period however the driver is responsible for pays for charging which cost 18-20k (full charge) or less daily depending on battery 🔋 level.

My concern is the fact that the vehicles are overpriced and drivers may be getting into a trap of the deal is predatory and transfers risk to driver. I asked to see the contract but was told that after I indicated interest and passed their interview before I will be giving a contract and 3 days to review it.

Omoh! I'll wait this one out and keep trying to find drivers who use this to hear from them.
