Lagos State Fire Service Tests Itel Power 80 Smartphone: The Itel Power 80 Story by ogugwa1992(op): 2:19pm On Jul 13
Smartphone durability is often communicated through specification sheets and laboratory certifications. Water resistance ratings, drop tests and impact claims have become common across the industry. But for consumers, the real question is simpler: can a phone continue working when conditions are far from ideal? Recently, members of the Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service (LSFRS) took part in a field demonstration involving the new itel Power 80, placing the device in scenarios inspired by the challenging environments firefighters encounter every day. For a profession where equipment failure is not an option, reliability matters more than marketing language. When Water Resistance Meets Real-Life Conditions Rain, accidental spills, splashes, or dusty environments are all part of everyday life. While many devices claim protection against these situations, few have the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities alongside professionals whose work routinely involves water, pressure and unpredictable conditions. During the demonstration with LSFRS personnel, the itel Power 80

underwent a series of water-related tests designed to showcase its resistance in wet environments. The device carries IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance certifications, standards typically associated with protection against water immersion, splashes and dust ingress. More importantly, the demonstration highlighted how those certifications translate into practical confidence in everyday use. For firefighters observing the exercise, the takeaway was straightforward: durability is no longer a premium luxury feature, but an increasingly necessary requirement for modern users. Why Firefighters Value Reliability Firefighters operate in environments defined by uncertainty. Heat, water, impact and constant movement place enormous demands on the tools they depend on. While consumer smartphones are obviously not professional rescue equipment, the qualities firefighters look for in their gear — resilience, dependability and the ability to continue performing under pressure — are qualities ordinary users increasingly expect from their devices as well. The involvement of the Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service provided something that specification sheets alone cannot offer: practical validation from

professionals who understand the importance of equipment that continues working when conditions become difficult. Beyond Water: Protection Against Everyday Impact The demonstration also drew attention to another aspect of durability that affects users more frequently than water exposure: accidental drops. The Power 80 incorporates a CageFrame™ shock-resistant structure designed to absorb impact forces and reduce damage from everyday falls and collisions. For commuters navigating crowded buses, riders travelling across uneven roads, field workers operating outdoors or students moving between classes, accidental drops are often more common than extreme weather. Durability, therefore, is not only about surviving exceptional moments, but also about enduring ordinary ones. Built Around Nigerian Realities Nigeria presents unique

challenges for consumer electronics. Long commutes, outdoor work, busy markets, construction sites and unpredictable weather create conditions that demand more from smartphones than traditional office environments do. Devices built for these realities require more than high specifications; they require resilience. Combining IP68/IP69 protection, impact-resistant engineering and a 7000mAh battery designed for extended usage, the itel Power 80 positions itself as a device intended for demanding daily life rather than ideal laboratory conditions. A Different Kind of Endorsement Product launches frequently feature celebrities, influencers and staged demonstrations. This collaboration felt different. When firefighters — professionals whose work depends on dependable equipment in high-pressure environments — are willing to put a device through its paces, the result carries a level of credibility that traditional advertising struggles to replicate. Water tested it. Firefighters witnessed it. For everyday users, that may be one of the strongest durability statements a smartphone can make.

Waterproof technology in phones first emerged in 2005 with the Casio Canu 502S in Japan. Early technology relied on heavy rubber seals and port covers, whereas modern smartphones use sophisticated internal adhesives, hydrophobic mesh, silicone gaskets, and specialized nano-coatings to protect sensitive components

So what's the big deal ? If I may ask

You are still living in 2018 bro. Snapdragon, I accept but Nvidia? They don't make SoCs for smartphones - I wonder where you got that from. Then, Kirin is limited.... Huawei can't get Google Apps and optimisations so you are basically "locked in a closet". I used to be like you, I hated anything MediaTek, and rightly so because the early rollouts such as the Helio were shit but today, the MediaTek Dimensity series shut me up for good- that lineup is flagship and would give most Snapdragons a run for their money.

I have been a long time user of itel products from the A16+ I bought during covid when my Samsung Note 2 died on me, to their A70 I bought when my Samsung Note 8 suddenly just gets hot for no reason grin

To the itel S26U I am currently using. when buying Itel go for higher ram like 8gig to enjoy lag free experience. Other things they have a low quality unlike other users.

I bought the Itel S26U only because my work is heavy duty and I won't go and buy Samsung 700k to break the screen and be looking for 500k to replace it. The S26U doesn't lag at all and the 6000mah battery last me around 2 days.
