I’d love to return to school, get a degree — Osimhen

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed his desire to return to school and earn a university degree after retiring from football, saying education remains an important goal despite the demands of his professional career.

In an Instablog TV interview now circulating on social media, the Galatasaray forward reflected on the lessons life has taught him since leaving school and explained why he hopes to continue his education.

“As an adult, not everything I learned in school. There are some kinds of life lessons you encounter through life’s journey,” Osimhen said.

The 27-year-old noted that a football career is relatively short, making it important for players to prepare for life after retirement.

“For me, it would be an amazing thing to also try to get a degree, which I’m still considering because football, you won’t play for so long, probably 20, 25 years, and then you’re done.”

Osimhen said that while he has other opportunities to rely on after his playing days, earning a degree would be a personal achievement and an opportunity to inspire others.

“In as much as I have a lot of things to fall back to when I’m done, I think it’s still important for me to set an example, to set a standard for the younger generation.”

He also encouraged young people who were forced to suspend their education due to financial or personal challenges, stressing that returning to school is always possible.

“Even though you dropped out due to some kind of challenges you have, it’s something you can always go back to. School is always there,” he said.

Although Osimhen did not reveal when he intends to enrol or what course he plans to study, his remarks have been widely praised by fans, who described his message as a powerful reminder that education remains valuable regardless of career success.

Good one.

Imagine a billionaire like osimhen still has the guts and zeal to say he wants to return back to school, but one small Yahoo boy wey him mama just pay 1000 dolls from her pension money go open mouth say school na scam angry

But then again,we all know it's not gonna be easy but at least we've heard how other ex players did it and were successful on it.

But I hope he won't do that in any of these our current Nigerian universities cha, cuz,Even ordinary peller that went to his paparazzi school one time ago,the rate at which Nigerian bannies were stalking him,the werey had to drop out by force angry

Not all of them. Some do go back to school, some even do it partime while playing.

The late Sam Okwaraji was doing his education partime while playing aborad..and he was born here.

Education is very important.
Re: I’d Love To Return To School, Get A Degree — Osimhen by Helinuse: 8:50am On Jul 14
But one small dude somewhere in Nairaland will rush out to tell you, "School na scam."
The funny thing is that unimportant men make slogans to justify their own unimportance.

A dude who can't pass exams enough to qualify for higher education will say, "School na scam."
A dude who has obtained a degree but hasn't had any opportunity to be valuable to himself with it will say, "School na scam."

But a person who has created value for himself and his society via the degree he has obtained will never say the same.

The problem was that when we got independence, we needed to replace all the white expats who held vital positons in the civil service, including in medicne and education, and we needed professionals...and since there were not many to begin with, jobs in those days were hotcakes. Even during my father's time as a student in the 70's...they had job fairs in the university ,where companies came to recurit students about to graduate (something you still see in saner climes, even in China).

As a result, a graduate graduating before 1980 could be guaranteed a good job and enough money to buy a car and even get a good enough house. Heck even secondary school leavers could get a good job with ease, and be driving cars long before their mates who went to uni graduated.

The problem was , in the 1980's onwards, because our economy was oil dependent, not industry and manufacturing dependent, the number of graduates outstripped the number of jobs available. And with the population rising beyond the ability of government revenue to sustain it, salaries started contracting. OIl price collapse in 1982, led to worsening inflation, and the ending of subsides, and worsening of services like power and light.

So, all of a sudden a graduate was no longer guarranteed a car and a house unilke before. Meanwhile, because of our import oriented economy, the people who left school to go into trading, those who were close to government and able to chop, and later scammers were the ones earning more and more money and buying the new cars and building the new houses, while university lecturers as early as 1988 were doing taxi business as side hustle (kabu -kabu).

So, in the minds of many generations since, school na SCAM.

MODIFIED

Being a footballer was not a money spinner, even in Europe by the 1960's , even by the 1980's, It's from the 1990's, inparticular the premier league era, that football became a money money maker for players.

Wether osimhen return to school or not, he's made for life and he achieved all that without education

He's only considering school now just to be addressed as a graduate , not like he wants to do anything with the degree.

"Made for life" is exactly what you are getting wrong.
If he were truly made for life, he wouldn't have yearned for education.
To people like you, money is everything in this world.
So when someone makes money, they are automatically made for life.

And such a mindset is usually sponsored by POVERTY.
I can prove it.

God bless you more Super Star.. Peller should learn from more successful people like this because one day.. that girl will insult him openly and it’s really going to hurt him.. moral lesson. No matter how successful you think you are! Don’t stop learning..✌️

And you usually wish you were as knowledgeable as they are.
That is, if you even have any fish, poultry, or you are just an online "I am a very big man."
grin grin grin

Even the big boys in the Onitsha or Alaba market, although richer than their employees, will always wish they had the opportunity to be as learned as their employees.

But one small poultry farm guy simply thinks he is better than his employees because they are learned, and he is not, but employs them.

Money isn’t the only metric to measure success or fulfillment.

Google Maslow’s hierarchy of need and see what it entails.

job fairs is common in developed countries. Medical students don't get that in Nigeria 🤷🏿.

To you money may be all you need in life, but it’s not African.

A good name is better than gold and silver. African proverb (in fact it’s Yoruba adage).

Power is greater than money. Someone with power can render your money useless.
