The governors are screaming state police so they can have control over an armed police of their own just as the president has control over the federal police.

For state police to be effective and even the present police, it must be made an independent institution with laws guiding them.

Unless we enable stronger institutions, we’ll just be running in circles.

Additionally, we must reconfigure our police to let them know they serve the people and not a few politicians, rich and wealthy people.

If these are not put in place, we’ll definitely go back to square one, but this time we’ll be battling two bad police forces.

You nailed it,they will just be tools used by politicians to do their bidding.
I have not seen any new thing proposed for the state police that is not in the present police set up.

If we ask the governors to explain or detail how state police will reduce crimes and also the banditry going on, they’ll say gibberish.

State police bring security close to you

They are part of your community, so they are quick to sense danger within and outside
They are not against state policing for their state and region.

They are against state police for other states and regions.

The question to ask, is why so?

Mainly because of obsession with Lagos...

There's no where on earth and at no time ever has centralisation and macro management ever worked in the area of policing .

If you against state policing then what is the purpose of having states and governors ?

Why not get rid of governors and states and reduce every state to its basic provinces and have a,powerful centrist govt.

You guys should tell us why you are against state police for other states and regions because a people who still support the rogue outfit that is ESN have no moral right to condemn other states wanting to have their own legally backed state police .

Abeg, this should not be something to debate. Policing should be a local thing. I'm sure majority of those on this platform know their immediate environment very well and they also know the red spots, where they get jittery when pass through at night because of those bad boys.

How do you explain a situation where a policeman employed, born and brought up in Onitsha to go and police a remote area in Rivers State. Yet, you expect results, you sing professionalism into his ears every now and then, it's not going to work.

Policing in this country should get to a point where as an ordinary Nigerian, you notice a funny movement around your community and you call the nearest police post and in a few minutes you have some policemen in mufti within the community trying to know what exactly is going on.

Anybody who wants to talk about this state police sold rather bring to the table, a potential means of effective policing, and not whether state police will work or not. We don't want to hear that.

When kidnapping and robbery take place, you shout the government. Now they're bringing state police, you are still shouting it is not necessary.

What you want exactly, I don't know.

Not just Lagos but every other state outside their SE.

You can see that not one of them has provided a cogent reason why state police is bad other than governors will abuse it .

Their reasons are simply because with a state police in place, states can effectively enforce state laws which they are totally against because states always enact laws to protect the indigenes and promote their rights and privileges above outsiders.

Coming from someone who openly supports and defends the criminal and illegal ESN.

Before talking about the advantages of state policing,it's important to know the content of the state policing bill.
What are the guardrails or safeguards?
Who will the state commissioner of police be answerable to?

Why did you guys arm Fulani terrorists?
FSBoperator:
But you guys all cheered and welcomed the formation of ESN .

Why then is it hard to have a police force that is composed wholly of your people that will be committed to providing policing and security ?

How can you support the illegal criminal infested ESN and be against state police that will have a legal framework ?

I believe the issue isn't your rejection of local policing for your state and region but for other states and regions.

As it stands now, only the SE and the Fulani are against State police.

Why is that ?

If you don't want State police for your state then don't .

But to demand others who want one not to have it is exposing your true intent on why you are against it which is the same position shared by the Fulani elite.

I am sure the people of Plateue, Benue, Taraba, Adamawa ,Bornu , Niger and Zamfara will welcome state police and can't wait for it to begin.

I am sure every state in the SS and SW has already finished a draft bill for State policing.

If you guys in the SE don't want one, then you are free to continue having Federal police .

But to reject state policing for other states is the height of your meddling ways which only exposes your hidden agenda.

Ojukwu rejected Gowon's decree 8 that sought to grant each region more autonomy complete with their own separate military.

We now know why Ojukwu hastly invaded the then Midwest before Gowon passed that decree for regional militaries.

State policing is actually a positive step, and it’s a system already practiced in advanced countries. With this in place, it will be harder for criminals to commit offenses in one state and to Abuja, like moving from Oyo to Abuja. It will also help reduce the excessive power of the presidency, as states become more independent and less reliant on the federal government during elections. In other words, governors won’t feel pressured to defect to ruling parties just to secure a second term.

obembet opinion
State Police will perform worst than federal police, MARK ME BLOGGER words.

Look at the long term goals and see where I'm coming from

It is a very good idea. Enough of Northern police officers mounting road blocks and littering streets of the South extorting people when they can be put to better use fighting terrorism in their region. Police officers from each region know their people, culture and the best way to handle situations than someone that has never stepped foot in a place being in charge of law enforcement in that place.

Next is regional government as existed in the past.

We already have a police force in Nigeria and there are still alot of security problems in the country.

There is now a proposal to have a state police in all states of the federation.
I am still thinking what really will the new state police bring to the table?

Will the state police be better funded to fight crime with modern sophisticated security gadgets or it will be like the current policing set up we are presently having.

We can't change a system if we continue doing what we were doing before.
I still believe that the police force should be bolstered in the modern way of policing as it requires fewer man power.
We should embrace quality over quantity.
My thoughts though.
.
Get kidnapped by bandits first, then from bandits' camp, we can discuss this

Their house belongs to Nigeria, their rules concerning religious freedom should belong to Nigeria also. I should have a voice on how some states treat non-muslims because I'm a Nigerian and Nigeria is a secular state.

And you feel the state police is the solution to stopping banditry?
Banditry can only stop if all areas in Nigeria are properly mapped out with heavy security gadgets that can detect every movement made by bandits.
The bandits have gone digital using drones and you are depending on hunter guns to fight them, what do you think will happen.
