When you go to sporting events in the US, ask them why they sell the same coke for $10 that is less than $1 in a pack or $1.25 in outside store. Just leave people's business alone. If you are too poor to buy, move on. The person was probably forced to come out and explain to poor people running down her business. There is 1st class, Premium Economy and Basic Economy...sit where your money can reach. I guess this is why they cover First class areas with curtains, so poor people won't start saying...why are they drinking that wine and you gave us water and small soda lol?

Why I Sell My Akara for ₦22,000 in Lagos –Akara Lekki Owner Opens Up

The owner of The Akara Lekki has broken her silence amid the massive online backlash over the eatery’s premium platters priced as high as ₦22,000, insisting that customers are paying for far more than just ordinary bean cakes.

In a recent interview, the entrepreneur behind the now-viral Lekki spot defended her pricing model, arguing that her product represents a completely different class of akara compared to the roadside versions sold for ₦50 or ₦100 per piece. “I’m not selling ordinary akara. I’m selling an experience,” she said.

“From the quality of beans, premium fillings like seafood, chicken, and beef, to the hygienic environment and professional presentation, everything is intentional.”

She highlighted the high cost of doing business in upscale Lekki Phase 1, including rent, quality ingredients, skilled staff, and maintaining a clean, air-conditioned space that appeals to customers who want a premium twist on a beloved Nigerian street food.

“People compare us to roadside sellers, but they are not comparing apples to apples. Our customers understand the value, clean oil, fresh ingredients, proper packaging, and a place where they can sit and enjoy without stress,” the owner added.

The comments flooded in after social media exploded with mixed reactions to the ₦22,000 platters.

While critics called it “outrageous” and “disconnected from reality” in Nigeria’s current economy, others have defended the business, saying those who can afford it should be free to patronise luxury versions of local delicacies.

The Akara Lekki has two locations in Lekki and continues to attract curious customers and delivery orders despite the controversy.

Today is July 14, 2026. I'll come back to this akara story by July 15, 2027, God sparing our lives. I'm interested in the longevity and sustainability of the business and pricing model. No other comments from me for now.
Best wishes to everyone involved.

My conscience won't even allow me do such. E go flog me tire.

One thing is bro, Itel na phone, Apple sef na phone,as cheap as Itel is and amount the spend on promoting their products, apple(iPhone) still earn greater revenue from sales than them. The bottom line is the fact that a product or good is expensive doesn't mean people that know it's worth won't go for it. Life is all about choices, people that opt for the expensive akara over the cheap ones definitely have their reasons.

LordReed:
Bro google the most expensive restaurants near you and compare their prices to the regular ones or this overpriced akara.

What do you mean only in Nigeria is there ultra wealthy? What do you call the likes of Bernard Arnault (France) – Chairman and CEO of LVMH, the luxury goods conglomerate, with a net worth of $192.7 billion or Amancio Ortega (Spain) – Founder of Inditex, the parent company of Zara, with a net worth of $111.3 billion. You think their money is akara money?
Do you really think Dangote or Otedola would sit in that Akara restaurant to eat Akara?

He made valid points.

What valid point? That there are no restaurants with even more ridiculously expensive food here and abroad? Are you people living in caves?

And funny enough, you didn't bother reading what I wrote.
You somehow think that the way these guys you mentioned behave here in Europe is the same way you behave in Nigeria, where if you add more money to your earnings, you have to spend that money.

So, in your mind, you think a person with a so-called net worth of $192.7 Billion will be eating a meal worth $1 million per day?

Again, I repeat, na only for Nigeria una dey get "ultra wealthy" people, who don't eat normal food with normal prices, but eat normal food with ultral wealthy prices.
grin grin grin

Those your Carter Efe, Peller, Nasboi, Daddy Wa, etc. na dem be una "ultra wealthy."
grin grin grin

I never mentioned Carter Efe or ultra wealthy in Nigeria so whatever you are smoking must be making you hallucinate.

The most expensive wine in Europe is the Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 1945 worth $812,500. It is people like Benard Arnault who buy such things not your akara money holder who you claim just wants to catch fun.
