He was there on assignment with duration, he wasn't meant to stay there forever. This is how the average Nigerian blocks the way of progress for others. When you're sent to serve as a priest at a location, another is sent to take your place when the posting duration is done. On the surface this looks like a bootstrap problem where your argument is circular: pay for services to enjoy them, but the people don't have the means to pay for the services to enjoy and pay for....ad infinitum.

The reality is, the government invests first in the infrastructure and services which create employment and entrepreneurial opportunities so people have the money to continue paying for the initial services, with these payments judiciously used to improve said services, etc.

However, we've a situation where the commonwealth is plundered by political brigands and rent seekers, and even the little paid as taxes disappears into the very opacity of government malfeasance.

If the above holds true, the consequent disillusionment breeds the exact kind of society you deplore where people don't want to pay for services and crime goes up.

So let's go back to first principles: let the government make the necessary investment in security, energy, infrastructure, social services, and the prerequisite environment necessary for equity, capital, and entrepreneurship to flow. That's what China did.

Unfortunately, our political system is designed to trickle down not wealth or social benefits, but crumbs and morsels from the obscene orgy going on above the socio-political ladder.

Before you ask me to pull my weight, explain to me transparently why the 11th largest oil producer is one of the poorest, explain to me where the subsidy savings are going, why every politician and appointee is wealthy beyond any reasonable and justifiable sense.

When this conversation happens, Nigerians may yet be convinced to partake in genuine nation building, instead of propping up the kleptocratic bourgeoisie like Atlas under a scorching sun

Revenue from oil and other resources at the moment can't reach 200 billion dollars. We need something close to about 600-800 billion dollars or more annually before we can live the life we want to live.

Also, again, we do not set the prices.
