FG Trains 40 Youths To Guard Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway grin grin grin

Nigeria na Comedy Central
it is not actually funny

in festac a b k have stolen most of the steel manhole covers for drains

two of my kids have fallen in manholes at different times. my car tire has gotten stuck as well
they were breaking concrete divider along lagos badagry expressway to steal reinforcement
the finger mesh barriers at oshodi etal have also been stolen
it is why some bridges now use ridiculous looking concrete hand rail instead of steel or aluminum

and we are soon going to have to do same for train railways

20 people in the day and 20 people in the night will guard 700km of road and it's not funny to you? 😂

So according to you it's the total 40 people that will prevent your car from getting stuck in man hole?

Is the coastal road the same distance as festac , Lagos-badagry expressway or Oshodi ?

Even deploying 40 guards to Lagos-Ibadan expressway is ridiculously funny , not to mention the Coastal road that is 700km

i know that you have an intense dislike for anything associated with APC , but you should not allow it to cloud your reasoning

this country has a serious vandalisation problem where infrastructure provided by the government is looted

it is the same reason trains are being derailed in the bush - because nigerians are stealing them

it should also be obvious to you that it takes TIME to dismantle a fence, or to wedge a manhole out from the road - and these are not items you can just run off with. all those patrolling need to do is sight the thieves and raise the alarm

it is also the reason why shanties are being cleared from the sides of the road because, these are also places your friendly neighbourhood iron condemn can temporarily store stolen materials [cue shouts of wickedness]

perhaps you are waiting until YOU have an accident due to a vandalised road, at which time you will come here to talk about how useless the APC government is - because complaining is easy

maybe you can come up with a solution to vandalisation of government funded infrastructure

the first step to securing anywhere is direct engagement of the community. members of the community already see when all this is going on, but they are not personally invested in stopping it. this is one measure that can be taken - as a first step

KOGI GOVERNMENT PRESS RELEASE

GOV. ODODO MOBILISES MASSIVE SECURITY OPERATION TO RESCUE ABDUCTED SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, NECO OFFICIAL, STUDENTS

The Kogi State Government has mobilised a massive multi-agency security operation to secure the safe rescue of four persons abducted from Government Secondary School (GSS), Olowa in Dekina Local Government Area during the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.

The operation, directed by the Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, FCA, is being coordinated by the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), with the full participation of all security and intelligence agencies operating in the State.

The victims are Elder Daniel Iyanaa, Principal of Government Secondary School, Olowa; Mr. Solomon Audu, a NECO official; Miss Dorcas Sunday, a NECO candidate; and another female NECO candidate identified simply as Miss Dorcas, whose surname is yet to be confirmed.

Five persons were initially abducted by the criminals. One victim has since been rescued, while efforts have been intensified to ensure the safe return of the remaining four.

Officers and men of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Lokoja, 21 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Anyigba, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Kogi State Vigilante Service, local hunters and other security outfits have all been deployed to the area. Advanced technology is also being deployed to support the operation, and encouraging progress is being recorded.

Preliminary findings indicate that the examination centre, located in a remote and vulnerable area, was being used as a "miracle" centre for external candidates. The two female candidates involved were not regular students of Government Secondary School, Olowa, and the examination arrangements did not align with the security framework put in place by the Kogi State Government to protect candidates writing the ongoing NECO examinations across the State.

The Kogi State Government, however, stresses that this does not diminish its responsibility to protect every resident and every Nigerian within its borders. The victims are our people, and the Government will spare no effort in ensuring their safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible for the crime.

To protect the integrity of the ongoing operation, the Government will not disclose further operational details at this time. Residents of Olowa and surrounding communities are urged to cooperate with security personnel by providing credible information and complying with security directives.

The Kogi State Government remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and will continue to work closely with security agencies until the victims are safely reunited with their families.

I lost a tire at Ogba (cutting into wemco road from Akilo) on a Bloody Sunday morning with no vulcanizer out.

After several cars lost their tires too, they had to close that place with concrete. These steel thieves are a menace…. At this point, I can’t turn into an unfamiliar street without checking for uncovered holes. There are quite a lot in Lagos with the covers vandalized.

@ afrodoc2, is this a social media physiotherapist or real one?
Yeah it is unusual especially for an inexperienced physio. Even in the stethoscope around her neck is not something she would regularly make use of.

This is probably just a symbolic social media picture to celebrate graduation or induction or something similar.

RIP to her.

thank you

now imagine it happened at night

double wahala and risk of getting robbed or worse

the mesh fence they put along road divider also hinders traffic thieves who would otherwise be able to cross the expressway back and forth during traffic jams to rob people at their leisure

It actually doesn't make any sense. 20 people cannot patrol a stretch of road that is 700km long, that's basic common sense.

If you are genuinely looking for solution to vandalization of government funded infrastructure, then you will be talking of installing CCTV and use of drones which are more effective for monitoring the infrastructure than 40 people running two different shifts.

CCTV and drone cameras being used for monitoring the corridor is a more sensible approach to achieving security on that corridor. All they need is a control room that will be mounted by few personnel who would alert security agencies when they notice any criminal activities or acts of vandalization along the corridor. The nearest police or military formation closet to the scene will be alerted from the control room and they will easily apprehend the criminals live in action.

I find it funny that you think this has anything to do with like or dislike for APC. Just think about it again, think of the distance 20 people can cover on a 700km road within 12 hours shift; you will see the whole idea of " 40 people to guard coastal road " is just very ridiculous.

Which structures?

Below is what the spokesperson said:

Mr Olufemi Dare, said the initiative was directed by the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, to safeguard the highway from increasing cases of vandalism and misuse
He is literally saying 20 people will patrol the in the day and 20 people will patrol at night to safeguard the highway from vandalism and misuse.

How will 20 people achieve that on that much stretch of the road? Think am na.

Is it not wise to employ technology to monitor and report criminal activities on the highway from a control room to security personnel closest to the place?

To me, they just want to give those guys food to chop and possibly use them to arrest content creators who go to the coastal road to make videos to complain about standard & quality of work being done. There's no how 20 people on a shift can effectively guard that stretch of raod. Even the Lagos part alone, they can't effectively guard it talk more of Ogun state section, Ondo state section, etc
