Sometimes, I'm wondering if it has become a Crime to work for people. This accounts for why we have so many youths indulging in fraudulent activities. It's really disheartening. All my life, I've never seen a Boss who is as inhuman, insensitive and callous as this. I'm tired of everything about life. I work 24hrs without rest, not even at night. At night, I'm monitoring energy/power consumption, switching over to Public light, inverter or Generator, keeping records and preparing same report ahead of daybreak. I do administrative tasks, clean the pool, assist and guide the housekeepers in cleaning the hotel rooms, run errands, do DJ work. I don't observe my off days. All these wouldn't have been my problems if this man was not an abusive type. He assaults me verbally, calls me all sorts of derogatory names, speaks to me in the most despicable manner, even before my subordinates. There's no staff who doesn't have closing and resumption time except me. My colleagues call me "Workaholic", but this man calls me "Lazy". If I step out for just 20Mins, calls will come in needing my attention at the hotel. He wants me to be working 24/7, yet, I have no place to sleep in same hotel. I'm exposed to harsh weather conditions and Mosquito bites . Even slaves have more prestige and honor than me. At this moment, I don't mind get a new job elsewhere and taking a pay cut, as long as my sanity is intact. I'm mentally and psychologically wounded. I already had a bad childhood and same thing is playing out in my adulthood. My self-esteem is affected. For the records, four of my predecessors all left on a quarrelsome note. As a matter of fact , no former staff ever left happily. Nobody has ever said anything good about same boss. If you call workmen to come fix an issue, he wouldn't pay them after work. Everyone is saying same thing about one person. Only this month, I have already been booked six times for offences I know nothing about. And if u complain, he will book you further. No staff ever gets their complete salaries by the end of the month. It's a very pathetic situation I've found myself. I wish I had elder ones or even parents who I can lean on while I quite this job. My mental health is at stake. Psychologically, I'm affected. Mods, please push this to the front page. I need advice Pls. Nlfpmod, mynd44 |

Pexta:I kept thinking about the part where every former employee left on bad terms. When the same pattern repeats over and over, it's usually not the staff that's the problem. I hope you find a workplace where you're actually appreciated. |

This doesn't sound like hard work—it sounds like exploitation. Working long hours is one thing. Being expected to work virtually 24 hours a day without proper rest, being verbally abused, denied dignity, and constantly on call is something else entirely. No employee should have to sacrifice their physical and mental health just to keep a job. The biggest red flag for me isn't even the workload. It's the pattern. If four predecessors left after serious disagreements, no former employee has anything positive to say, and even contractors complain about not being paid, then the problem is unlikely to be the employees. The common denominator appears to be the employer. A good leader can be demanding while still treating people with respect. Constant insults, humiliation, unrealistic expectations, and intimidation are not signs of strong leadership—they're signs of poor management. If you have the opportunity to leave, it may be worth prioritizing your wellbeing, even if it means earning less temporarily. Money can be replaced over time, but prolonged stress and emotional exhaustion can take much longer to recover from. Everyone deserves to work in an environment where they are respected as a human being, not treated like a machine. I hope you find a healthier workplace soon. |

AngelSlay:Thanks so much for your input Sir. I'm really really entangled in this mess. There's no day I don't get insulted and verbally assaulted. Sometimes he even acts like he wants to get physical with me. These are insults I've never heard in my entire life. He's the most petty human being I've ever seen. He claims to be meticulous, yet doesn't issue Appointment letters to any of his staff. If you want to use five naira for anything concerning the hotel, you need to make a requisition for it. He must approve of it , before then, be ready for insults and public humiliation on/offline. This morning, I got booked/fined because he called and I wasn't able to pick. Why? I was in the restroom. He expects me to carry my phone everywhere. I have now been booked for 6 times since the start of this month. No staff ever gets their complete salaries |

It is always the fear of the unknown that makes us not to take that leap of faith. You fear getting broke if you resign from that job, but then you are no better than a jobless fellow who has his mental health intact. You are not the problem if 5 persons have come and gone. You sef will go as you don come. A time will come that if you continue to work in such a toxic environment, you will lose your sanity, your self worth and when he eventually sacks you, which is a matter of time, you cannot get another job elsewhere because he has already messed up your psyche. Before you started working there, you’ve always had food to eat, even if it was once a day. What makes you think you cannot put food on your table if you quit that slavery you call a job? It is the jobs that we look down on that actually pays us more. Somebody working in a a car wash, or a POS operator has more time and money to himself than you working for that slave master. Gather whatever he pays you by month end and leave that place ASAP. The earlier you start planning your exit, the better for you. Making you do all of those things you listed is a deliberate attempt by your boss to keep you stuck there, without any time for you to look for opportunities elsewhere. It will be extremely difficult to get another job while you are still there. When will you submit your CV, what time will you squeeze out and go for interviews when called for one? Don’t wait for when you will get another job before you quit, it won’t happen. If you are in the midst of a chore and you get an alert confirming salary payment, just leave whatever you are doing and leave ASAP. Even if you are mixing flour, or tying chin chin, or a pot of rice is on fire, and the alert enters, don’t spend any minute longer there. Pack your kaya and disengage. You should have at least a relative or a friend that you can put up with for at least a month before you get something else, even if it’s an informal one. On the other hand, I wonder why you didn’t want to mention the name of this company. Why are you protecting the image of the man and company that wants to take your life? Maybe you are waiting for when you exit the company before you do the needful. I understand You people should stop hiding their identity, with all the things they make you go through. Go to X, call them out. Let the online community talk about them. |

albacete:If I quit now without getting a new job, how am I going to survive? That's my greatest worry |
| Re: Is It Now A Crime To Work For People? by albacete(m): 8:10pm On Jul 20 |
Pexta:Going by your ordeal, can you squeeze out time to look for jobs elsewhere and attend to interviews when called? Because that’s what is paramount now. I understand your plight but you need to find a way out of that place. I pray you get something better soon. |

albacete:Thanks so much for your kind words Sir. Staying here can NEVER afford me time to look for a new job or even attend interviews if I'm called upon. I don't have off days, and I don't close. I even have to squeeze out time to have my bathe and even eat. It's that bad. I can't remember the last time I visited my own house which I'm paying rent for. I'm so engrossed in the job that I hardly think about myself or my family. Sometimes I forget I even have siblings |
