I agree on the bolded statement, but that alone shows Gunn was never that great nor that smart as a director...
A smart one will push out the director's cut if he was smart enough to know neither cuts will make the movie better - probably he thought the leaks will not get out there that he interfered and his cut happened to be the one officially released.
The genre is slowly dying and director like James Gunn is fasten it with the types of garbage movies he loves putting out. What Gunn is doing is no different from what the general audience is running away from - too much generic movies...

Looking at the film, the problem was basically execution. The story wasn't bad actually. I feel it should have been darker, sort of like the Nolan film vibe considering the theme.

I think people are still stuck with the Marvel formula, and it's what is killing DC films. In an effort to go for light-hearted and fun, it's become rather childish and silly.

Yeah that's true. Then again, when the genre has become formulaic, it's bound to get stale. This is why The Boys did well. It went against formula.

CW costumes were actually better bro. It's the costumes that take me out of it. It shows James Gunn isn't even taking the thing seriously. It just looks cheap, the vibe feels cheap, everything feels like WB has given up on it and don't care.

Actually, The Boys took a lot of inspiration from Snyder's cut but in a comedic and gritty manner. Formulaic is no longer in vogue.

It kind of had to since The Boys was basically meant to be realistic and mirror real world but with superheroes as celebrities.

I'm counting on a knee-jerk reaction by WB now. And I believe that will be the last film that goes into production in the meantime until the Paramount thing is finalized.

They really need to change those suit designs. They should hire the costume designers that worked on Black Adam.

That movie was never green-lit because it was suppose to, it was hurriedly green-lit and pushed into production because our man, Gunn, can not believe what hit him on Justice gang and also he couldn't live with the failure of seeing his movie failed to perform
How are they going to reunite Superman and Lex in Man of Tomorrow after the so much hatred they claimed Lex have on Superman? I don't see a better writing to convince many of how Lex and Supes easily sort out their differences in a jiffy. Yes, on mere thought it looks way simple, but to make it look believable in movie is a whole different game entirely. I think the movie runtime won't give them that luxury to flesh it out properly - and this happens to be one of many hills this movie needs to climb for it to be anything close to epic...

Only James Gunn three straight flop, though it's technically five, if we add Blue Beetle and The Flash. Those movies were/are movies he wholeheartedly claimed to be part of his DCU foundation block (initially), but along the line he shifted ground, just like he has been doing

From what I understand about Lex LUTHOR and Superman dynamic is that they aren't supposed to be friends or like each other. They are not going to hug or shake hands, so it's actually easy to have them work together for the good of humanity, Lex of course is doing it for show and has ulterior motives as well.

That said, MOT feels rushed but story and execution is what determines a great film. Right now, it's stacked up of characters that I wonder if James Gunn can tell a good story in under 2 hours cause he is quoted saying he doesn't like films that go too far beyond the 2 hour mark.

Also, has anybody noticed how lifeless Metropolis was made to feel in Superman? Or even Peacemaker's city didn't have life to it. I don't know why that is. Then again, everything just feels cheap and cartoonish.

I hate what he did with Hawkgirl. To be honest, if you removed the Justice gang from the film, it would have been a better film. That and of course, change the Superman suit. They have to change that sh!t.
