We all know that local food spot everyone raves about? The one where the soup smells so good it pulls you in from the road, where the swallow is always perfectly made, and where every meal feels like a warm hug? Yes, that kind of place. This isn't about dragging anyone's business. Not at all. Because honestly, there's no restaurant, no fancy eatery, nothing "continental" that can match the joy of a truly good bukka meal. That taste is different. It feels like home. It feels like comfort. But there's one thing. Just one small issue that can quietly push loyal customers away for good. Which is Hygiene. That's it. That's the whole story. A friend shared an experience recently that captures this perfectly. The food itself was excellent, well-seasoned, well-prepared, everything a good bukka meal should be. But something else stood out differently, and not in a good way: Plates that hadn't been properly washed, with stains from previous meals still visible A dining area that wasn't kept clean, with flies hovering around the tables Surfaces that felt greasy or sticky to the touch Once those things were noticed, the appetite disappeared almost instantly, even though the food itself smelled and looked amazing. It isn't about expecting five-star treatment. It's simpler than that. When small details like clean plates and a tidy environment are ignored, it naturally makes people start wondering about the things they can't see: how the kitchen is kept, how the water is handled, how the food was actually prepared before it reached the table. That's really the issue. Once that doubt sets in, no matter how delicious the food is, it becomes hard to enjoy it fully. So to every bukka owner, or anyone connected to running one, this is simply a gentle reminder. Wipe down the tables. Wash the plates properly. Keep the surroundings clean. Deal with the flies. It's a small effort, but it's often the difference between a customer who keeps coming back and one who quietly stops coming, without ever explaining why. At the end of the day, people aren't asking for luxury. They just want to enjoy good food without any second thoughts. Has hygiene ever made you or someone you know stop going to a bukka you used to love? Share your experience below.

I don't think anyone can do without eating outside. Atleast you must have a type of food which you frequently eat when you are outside your house. Except the person is a kid who hasn't start to hustle in the outside world. |

When it comes to Iya basira, hygiene have no power over the sensation of the meal. Customers must flow.. Some even wash plates themselves and argue on the queue to get served first |

I wrote it here before. I am not a Bukka person based on say I get better upbringing but one day wey I go try am with my guys dem that time, I no know wetin carry my eyes go there. I de see this woman for back, one of the cooks for this popular Bukka wey get plenty customers. Na so I begin watch her pikin wey don shit finish de waka, small time, I see as she carry that boy, take small water wash him yansh and ewwwwww she just continue her work. I wan puke dat day 🤮 I say wetin be dis Charlie. See this woman just wash her pikin bum bum like say nothing spoil come use that hand de do work for food wey Pa Adam generation go chop. Chai Of course, the one wey cockroach go de your food, that one common and I no surprise. Most of dem no send your papa for hygiene. All die na die. You no see as dem de wash plate? Dem go wash 200 utensils for one bowl all because dem wan manage water (blame our government as we no get potable water supply), dem go de talk for food wey dem de cook, you go see sweat as those woman de pound de enter your food...some people say na all these things sef de make d food sweet but as I come get exposed, I come see say for where our Bukka de, dem de learn work from Indians ![]() On a more serious note, food is very important to me. I no de chop anyhow, that wahala for stomach upset no be wetin I get time for. Bukka too far. People don't love you as much as you love yourself, even for people house, I de fear because my own hygiene level wan resemble OCD type for people wey dirty but dem no know. Something must kill a man ![]() |

I hardly eat outside because I hate the use of seasoning (Maggi, Royco, Star,Mono Sodium). On one occasion, I was on night shift, and I had exams in the school that week. I left work then got home and headed straight for Exams. From there i went straight to the office for night shift again. I was so so so tired and famished. I asked a colleague who has been speaking highly of a particular restaurant, that the food is very nice. Na so I enter oh. Bought the food and was salivating already. Brethren, I hated myself for ever trying such.. It was as if they decided to baptize the entire food inside the river of seasoning. It was a huge disaster. Thank God for ny wife. After that experience and my lamentations She always ensure to package ny breakfast and lunch. At least breakfast sha... Thanks maidia. |
