The Defiant Return: Isaac Fayose Reaffirms His Support for Peter Obi After Viral Backlash

A single viral video was all it took to throw Isaac Fayose into the center of one of Nigeria's biggest political debates.

The businessman and younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose found himself under intense criticism after a video surfaced showing him sharing a friendly moment with Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, alongside celebrity socialite Cubana Chief Priest. In the clip, Fayose exchanged warm greetings, spoke positively about the Tinubu family, and even joined in a brief prayer.

What appeared to be a cordial meeting quickly sparked controversy.

Many Nigerians, particularly supporters of Peter Obi, interpreted the encounter as a sign that Fayose was drifting toward the ruling APC. The criticism came as a surprise to many, considering Fayose had been one of Peter Obi's most vocal supporters during the 2023 presidential election. He had publicly declared his backing, reportedly contributed financially to the campaign, and even made his hotel in Ibadan available for campaign activities.

As the video spread across social media, Obidient supporters expressed disappointment. Some accused him of betraying the movement, while others questioned whether his political allegiance had changed. The backlash became one of the most talked-about political conversations online.

Meanwhile, APC supporters welcomed the development with excitement. Many celebrated the video as proof that political divisions were softening, while others used it to mock the outrage coming from sections of the opposition.

As tensions continued to rise, respected members of the Obidient movement—including MamaPee, Justice Crack, and representatives of the Peter 4 Nigeria group—visited Isaac Fayose in an effort to hear directly from him and reduce the growing misunderstanding.

Their meeting appeared to mark a turning point.

Later that same day, Fayose released an emotional nighttime video in which he addressed the controversy personally. He disclosed that he had spoken directly with Peter Obi and made it clear that his commitment to Obi and the movement had not changed.

Reflecting on his sacrifices and contributions to the 2023 campaign, Fayose acknowledged his frustrations but insisted that he remained firmly behind Peter Obi's vision for Nigeria. His statement effectively ended speculation that he had crossed over to the APC and reassured many supporters who had questioned his loyalty.

What began as a political storm fueled by a viral video ultimately became a story of dialogue, reconciliation, and renewed commitment.

For now, Isaac Fayose has made his position unmistakably clear: despite the controversy, he says he remains in the fight alongside Peter Obi.

We support Peter Obi for a better Nigeria not for self recognition.....

Most people with their family abroad who are into politics only care about opportunities not the country...

I don't take them serious...
If you love this country relocate your family back home including Peter Obi.

No politicians family members should live or study abroad. Everybody back home.

All politicians are opportunist.

Indeed. Who and what can Obi lead? Who respects him across the leadership chain?

I laugh at how some Nigerians gullibly believe a man will become President and then wave some magic wand to get his ways.

The Nigerian Presidency, for the sake of improving Nigeria, is for a strong and well-supported man with loyalist across the entire Nigeria so he will always get the backing to delivers changes and reforms that will be resisted by demonic and powerful enemies of progress literally.

That is never Obi's level Who flees at the appearance of even the slightest challenge and has built nothing and no one that can be his firewall.

The ruling APC for the first time in Nigerian Political History is behaving like an opposition party whilst in power.

The show must go on but the house always wins.

Nigeria is like Las vegas casinos, very few winners make the loudest noise and many losers look helplessly, either way the politicians/house always wins.

The moment Peter Obi wins, most of the politicians/elites supporting Tinubu today will switch party to continue looting.

Well-said. My opinion too. Add ignorant to the description of misguided also. They don't read, never do research and are analytically deficient.

Majority of them simply support Obi because he is less visible and less prominent than the likes of OBJ, Atiku, Tinubu, Buhari, Abacha, IBB they believe ruined Nigeria.

Whereas anyone who has ten minutes to spare to do research will note Obi was an abysmal failure as Governor of Anambra who will be a disastrous President.

As a factual show of how working with reality is important, virtually all Southern leaders are behind Tinubu while next to not a single one is behind Obi.

Even in the SE, which Governor is behind Obi? None because they know he is a featherweight and a waste of time.

That is a big statement about who leaders believe is their President leader to be supported.

Well said, considering you are an Obidient, you have hit the nail on the head.

Part of the political process for those seeking elective office should be that every single one of your immediate family are in Nigeria, either schooling or working, and have been for at least 2 years.

In Ẹdo state, people based in US simply come home alone to campaign, leaving their families abroad, and win elections. How can they know what's on ground?

Your analysis is a big statement about how corrupt the system is in Nigeria.

How do you define failure as a Governor in a country like Nigeria?

Now use Peter Obi as a yardstick and compare him with other Nigerian Governors during his time as Governor.

For the fact that you are poetic doesn't make you correct or give you justification to type very long epistles.

If Nigeria's reputational image alone in the international community is restored, do you know how much FDIs will come in ?
