Nigeria is rich, but its people are poor and the numbers prove it’s not an exaggeration: things aren’t just bad, Nigerians getting worse, year after year. The Numbers Tell a Grim Story Poverty in Nigeria hasn’t just stayed high it’s been climbing steadily for years, even during periods when inflation was supposedly easing. According to the World Bank’s Nigeria Development Update (April 2026), the share of Nigerians living below the poverty line jumped from 56% in 2023, to 61% in 2024 and then to 63% in 2025 roughly 140 million people. That’s a staggering 7-point rise in just two years. Even more striking: this happened while headline inflation was falling from 34.80% in December 2024 to 15.15% in December 2025. In other words, prices were cooling off, but people were still getting poorer, because wages and incomes never grew fast enough to catch up. PwC’s Nigeria Economic Outlook 2026 tells a similar story, projecting poverty will hit 62% of the population about 141 million people by the end of 2026. PwC points to a simple but brutal mechanic: food makes up as much as 70% of spending for low-income households, so even small food price shocks hit the poor disproportionately hard. To put this in perspective on a longer timeline: the World Bank notes the absolute number of Nigerians in poverty rose from about 81 million in 2019 to roughly 139 million in 2025 an increase of nearly 60 million poor people in just six years. helinues:The quality of life in my extended family has noticeably reduced like it has also in your family if you will tell yourself the truth ...There is no way you will devalue the currency by more than 200 percent that the entire population wouldn't feel it , people need to earn 20 times more now to do things they could just 10 years ago...the only people who can say they don't really feel it are those who are earning in dollars ..well when Tinubu came in the World bank report said Nigeria had 70 million poor people but today itheblast report says 140 million poor and they are right |

SalamRushdie:How did you know about the extreme poverty if you or your family members are not experiencing it? How is it logical to be describing hardship than those who are experiencing it? Is it not inside the same economy you are undermining that you claimed your family are above it? Again, how it that logical Are you a bereaved crier? |

Nigeria is not rich.. Nigeria is very very rich. You made it look as if the country has no money using just "rich". This country is fvcking blessed but the leaders are not just it. I still wonder till today what we teach in our churches, mosques etc. when people can't just live within their means, always looking to rip-off others and steal when the opportunity to do so presents itself. Is it that people don't realize that one day they will die and leave this world with nothing?. Or why are Nigerians especially so greedy to the point of amassing money into trillions when we have so many people with nothing to eat, roaming the streets with no where to turn to?. The funniest part is that due to bad leadership, Nigerians are now leaving their own rich country, selling off their belongings to go and work as care givers, servants etc. in poorer countries abroad. No be juju be that?. Our leaders no dey try abeg. |

You see those two lackeys above? They are perfect examples of those that pretend all is fine just to support their useless tin god but back home they are most likely suffering just like many Nigerians. |

helinues:where did I say my family are above the economic disaster of Tinubu ? Helinues I know you don't earn up to 3 million a month so definitely you are feeling Tinubu misgovernance well ...I used to fill car tank at 13k-15k max and suddenly now I need to cough up between 87 thousand and 100k to fill a tank and you think I will not feel it ? Since last year I have shut down my office in Phase one because we can no longer afford the cost of running , so if tell you Nigeria is economically worse off under Tinubu than it was under the failed Buhari I know what I am saying... |

I need you to carefully think about what you will read below. In the entire period of time that the APC has been in office, India raised more than 360 million people out of poverty (more than Nigeria's entire population). In contrast, the APC through poorly thought out policies, outright theft and gross economic mismanagement, has more than doubled the population of poor people in Nigeria. Nigeria now has the highest number of poor people on earth! Make no mistake about it. Tinubu's policies have wrecked this country. There is no sugar coating it. |

Parachoko:Bro, you know the most annoying part, like over 7 years ago on this forum, if you see how this guy was bragging of starting airplane part business in Nigeria. He littered almost all the threads then with the bragging Unfortunately, it was all online noise and the ridiculous part about it, this guy will still be calling this government failure. Hahaha, was it success that made him not to start his planned business for almost a decade now? |

helinues:I brokered a lot of aircraft deliveries between 2018 and 2023 and that's a fact , I once owned the largest number of outdoor advertising in Nigeria , I owned a licensed lottery business where the license cost 10m annually and I ran that for 3 years ...Opened a fintech in 2023 that failed woefully which made me lose stupendous amounts of money but you know what I am about to rebrand and relaunch it again after studying my mistakes .. |
