Samantha125:
That's because you guys are inconsistent with your beliefs.
Or rather because you're not properly educated about Christian beliefs. Christian beliefs are consistent. Interpretation and practices may differ in accordance with human sentiment but it does not imply inconsistency
For example, you erroneously insisted that paying bride price is traditional wedding when bride price payment exists in the Bible as well.
You also claimed that church weddings are "white weddings" as if the church was started by "white people" and not semitic people as history teaches us

Jesus is an idol, making you guys also idol worshippers...🤣🤣🤣... Him being white doesn't make any difference...😃😃😃... Many of our forefathers were killed and forced to worship him when the colonisers arrived in Africa.

And how is it that not every traditional practice is religious and spiritually binding but every Christianity practice is religious and spiritually binding? make that make sense to me.
That the colonial masters used religion as a tool of control doesn’t make Christianity cruel or evil. Not everyone that goes by a Christian name is a practicing or good Christian. Some people are just tagging along without knowing whom they claimed to worship. After all, you also were a churchgoer…

Secondly, many people associate western cultures to Christianity, the same way many associate African culture/traditions with African traditional religions. Anything not commanded in the bible cannot be to be religiously binding, as far as Christianity is concerned. The same goes for African traditional practices which may not have anything to do with the worship of gods but simply a way the people understood and expressed themselves.

I did actually,
We met in 2008, we were in JSS 2, at Holy Ghost secondary school Aba, I left in Jss 3 to seminary, we lost contact but still had each other in mind.
We reunited in 2021, and we got married in 2024.
She was my first, one and only love.

Did I?😅😅😅... Well, there were two potential guys before my husband, I was after the first one while the second one was after me, but he too was my spec, I mean he was educated, tall, yellow, and handsome with a beautiful smile, perfect for making babies, the type of a man whereby even if he dumps you, you'd be grateful that he at least gave you beautiful babies.

I never got a chance with the first one, all thanks to his mother and even though I also liked the the second one, he was a junior pastor in my friend's chapel and due to some circumstances I was going through at that time, I didn't want to be linked to any pastor or even become a pastor's wife... My friend and I used to take turns in visiting each other's churches and he always looked forward to my visitations because he'd grab the opportunity to get to know me more after the service, apparently he'd also be just staring at me throughout the service, but I eventually stopped visiting... Then there was my husband, who was in a relationship with someone else while pursuing me.
What a wonderful triangle 😂😂😂

The problem with you is that what you call "tradition of a white man" is actually "church wedding". It is not tied to any tradition. Today the white man gets married without necessarily visiting the four walls of a church. White man does not have any strict tradition when it comes to weddings
Go read up history
You are ignorant. It’s white mans traditional wedding.

The real wedding in Nigeria and Africa is your traditional marriage.

How is it that traditional marriage doesn't mean religious marriage but your white wedding is religious?

If you think traditional marriage is not spiritual, then you're either in denial or just choosing to play dumb... Traditional marriage is also spiritual as it it involves the unification of both the groom and the wife's ancestors, therefore, spiritually binding them together.

And according to your understanding, what is a fetish practice?
You are struggling so hard to equate traditions with fetism and that is surprising.
The way a group of people communicate, eat, settle dowries, dress, pass on information, plan family systems, worship, educate, execute justice and morality, respect people, elect leaders etc are all forms of traditions. They don't require fetism to happen. Overtime some of the traditions overlap and change. Some drop part of the traditions and pick others which was why I requested that you look at enculturation and acculturation to see how they affect people and their traditions.

Marriages all over the world have gone through evolutions in the last 200 years and keep evolving till date. Why are you stuck on fetism?

See below definition of tradition:

an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior (such as a religious practice or a social custom)

Not at all. All these things have always been happening even before the bible documented it.

Terrible times: war war war versus Philistines, Babylon, Egypt, Persia.

Lovers of themselves, lovers of money, etc have always existed even before the new testament: Examples are Achan, Judas Iscariot, etc. Proud, boastful, example Jehovah. Disobedient to parents were very many in the old testament to the extent that Moses commanded that disobedient children should be stoned to death.

Unholy, Phinehas and Hophni, Eli's sons were termed unholy. Many other people were termed unholy, including everyone in the world, including the Samaritans. Only the Jews are termed holy.

A lot of people were unforgiven in the bible. Including David, the one after Jehovah's heart and Jehovah himself. David didn't forgive the guy who abused him when Absalom was chasing him about. He didn't forgive Joab too. He ordered Solomon to make sure they get killed. The Holy Spirit is also an unforgiving spirit. A sin to the Holy Ghost cannot be forgiven.

Samson was without self control as well as many in the bible. Potiphar's wife.

All those things mentioned there predated the bible and they are part of human nature. They will continue to happen.

You didn't wonder why they didn't see the invention of Aeroplane, Computer, AI, Phones, Rockets and thousands of scientific inventions?

I missed out on my first choice and second choice. And I've given up all the love i have inside me. At this point, I think I'd just marry someone just to give my children a mother, then play my husband and father duties and rest. I think I've given my love to the wrong ones and have no more love to give.

I'm back... At bolded, same can be said about traditionalists... Not everyone who's a traditionalist is cruel or evil... So I don't understand why you Christians always generalise them all but expect specificity when tables are turned.

There's no African traditional practice that does not involve African spirituality, maybe there are some exceptions in Christianity, but not with African traditions, I was raised in a traditionalist home, so I know... You guys are just confused hypocrites.

But you are idolizing Jesus and what is a fetish practice according to your understanding?

The olden ways didn't practice Christianity, so why not do these introductions and celebrations the Christian way since you guys consider traditional practices as fetish and diabolical? Because that traditional introduction also has a spiritual significance... Didn't your pastor tell you that everything is spiritual?
Hungrychicken:
Traditional marriages in Nigeria does not mean fetish or idol worshiping.

It means meeting the parents and the villagers/community of the bride, carrying out celebratory ceremonies like gifts exchange, palm wine drinking, parties with cultural wears, getting to know the intended families etc all depends on the cultures / tribe of the bride.

Basically, it's just introducing yourself to the bride’s people and celebrating with them as it were in the olden days, before the white man introduced the culture of being wedded in a church

No Ma. I don't have to be doing basic definition of tradition, culture, fetism, church wedding and traditional marriage.

Traditional marriage is marriage according to the customs or way of life of a people, Christians and skeptics inclusive. Christians are part of the communities that have their traditions and can do traditional marriage. Perhaps you are missing the point a bit

I agree with that not all traditionalists are evil. Some are moralists that believe in the law of karma, I know that. But we are Christians and not traditionalists, because the former is the way to God and guarantees eternal life. While the former is demon worship that leads to eternal death and destruction.

Maybe in SA everything you do in your tradition settings has spiritual undertone, it’s not the same in my part of the world. For instance, in traditional settings in my tribe, you are expected to offer kolanuts in certain occasions, not because some gods demand it. But because it’s prestigious and shows you are a true son of the soil.
Re: Did You Marry Your First Choice? by Samantha125(f): 10:01pm On Jul 18
There's still some spiritual significance to it, dig deeper... I once came across a video whereby one Nigerian man said something about how they use the Kola nut to recognise their ancestors... I'm sure they didn't just wake up one day and decided to use the Kola nut because it's prestigious and shows that you're the true son of the soil... Why not use the bible instead of a Kola nut as a Christian? Is the bible not prestigious enough for you guys?

I agree with you that kolanuts are used for oblations and sacrifices to the ancestors in my tribe. But that doesn’t make kolanuts inherently “spiritual “. It’s just a fruit …that traditionalists used them in their practices doesn’t mean Christians shouldn’t used them in whatever. This applies to a lot of other things too.
