Atiku’s Camp Calls for Oriire Kidnap Probe Following Revelation by Freed Teacher The camp of African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has backed Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s call for an independent investigation into the abduction of pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area, following claims by one of the freed teachers that they were released by their captors rather than rescued by security forces. Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, made the call in a post on X on Saturday. This follows the claim by one of the released teachers, Mr. Olatunde Zacchaeus, who during an interview on Nigerian Info FM, said that the victims were freed by the terrorists. Ibe argued that the teacher’s account contradicted the Federal Government’s earlier position that the victims were rescued by Nigerian security forces after spending 56 days in captivity. According to Ibe, the Presidency had, in a statement issued on July 10 by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the rescue of the 44 pupils and teachers. Ibe wrote, “On the 10th of July, the Presidency in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga announced the rescue (and not release) of the 44 Oriire school children and teachers by our security forces after 56 days in captivity. “But speaking on Info FM one of the freed teachers, Mr. Olatunde Zacchaeus claims that they were indeed released by the terrorists. “Teacher Olatunde Zacchaeus’s claims is in stark contradiction to what the Tinubu-led APC administration told the nation. “Is it that Zacchaeus, as a teacher, does not know the difference between to release and rescue, or is he an ‘agent’ of the opposition, or what? “This revelation on live radio brings to the fore the issue of state sponsored payment of ransom to terrorists and bandits and conspiracy theories that some of the so-called abductions are state-sponsored. “Does this revelation now explain why Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State demanded for a United Nations independent investigation of the issue? “I agree 100% with Makinde, there’s a compelling need for an independent investigation of an international dimension to establish what happened in Oriire, Oyo State, Mussa village in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno and in other places where abductions has become the rule and not the exception. “Meanwhile, what’s the update on the plan for the rescue or release of the abducted school children in Borno?” Ibe shared the comments while reposting a Nigerian Info publication quoting Zacchaeus, who recalled the final moments of the victims’ 56-day captivity. The post quoted the teacher as saying, “They said we should thank God that we have been freed,” as he narrated the emotional trek back to safety. https://politicsnigeria.com/2026/07/18/atikus-camp-calls-for-oriire-kidnap-probe-following-revelation-by-freed-teacher/

APC in it's opposition days would have done more than this. But can you people stop please, and have some decorum. Can you respect the memories of the dead. Can you not dampen the morale of the security men who made sacrifices for this feat to be recorded. You politicians can do better. |

I will not be surprised if they kick against it. I've never witnessed an administration more of afraid of the truth than this present one. |

::: Everyone knows they paid ransom for their release and not rescue. Who would investigate? Tinubu cannot investigate himself fairly... besides crooked trees do not give straight shadows. ::: |

LibertyRep:It's a good thing the victims are free but transparency is very important in governance. Why lie to the citizens and attempt to make political capital out of the incident by saying they were "rescued" if that is not the case? By the government's own account, 8 terrorists were arrested during the operation but why parade and charge only three? Things are not adding up and Seyi Makinde is vindicated. |

Some people no just get sense. What's difficult in understanding that the freed teacher didn't contradict government in anyway? Government pressured the kidnappers to free the victims. After they released the victims, common sense would tell you that the soldiers who already surrounded the place would not just walk away. They'll attempt to arrest the terrorists. During that attempt, there'll be a shoot out, and of course, there was one in which a soldier died. But eventually, arrests were made. To the victims, the situation would look as though they were released. But to the government and the soldiers, they were rescued. Government pressures and might were major factors that led to their release, otherwise, the story would have been different. It is a shame on Atiku if he expects to be spoonfed with such details as these. Some people, and infact, many people just have low IQ. |

You mean Tinubu should have stopped the mass protest against GEJ for planned subsidy removal? But wait ooh, didn't the freed teacher said they were directed to go to a stream by their abductors where they met the soldiers waiting? Abi na another version I listened to? LibertyRep: |

The best thing is for Atiku and his aides to get kidnapped so that they will see if they will be released or rescued. They will have first hand knowledge of what happens |

T9ksy:::: You are only being mischievous if you ask me how much was paid and the details of the negotiations. Everyone who can put 2 and 2 together, is truthful to conscience and not blinded by bias knows that wasn't a rescue but release. Nobody tells a blind man it is raining. He knows. ::: |

Atiku don't waste your time on Tulumbu Apc...if tulumbu's Apc could arrange fake Bishops for buhari, is it arranging a kidnapping movie that will be an issue for them to act ? Hope they pay the man that played the role where he was beheaded very well because that scene was top-notch |

By now, boys would have visited the teacher with a small bag and a touch of threat. Go and ask that teacher again and he'll deny he ever said that. If they confront him with the radio interview, his lawyer will tell you that he was still traumatised and didn't know what he was saying. |

Clowns. Where did the innocent man say they were not rescued. They should do the probe by themselves nah. They should start from knowing the truth about the soldiers that were killed. I heard the last word of the teacher in that interview that they were blindfolded but he said he saw their commander come, laughing and saying that they are free. How did he see the commander while blindfolded and why is his words at the end contradicting that of the principal who was not blindfolded and saw everything that happened. Truly,we all want to know the truth if there was anything fishy. ADC can do their independent probe without telling anybody because UNO will not do that for them. |

People are dull sha. Cant believe Atiku is this dull or just being mischievous.... 1. Were the victims freed by their abductors? YES 2. Was the freeing a rescue operation? YES 3. Even if government had paid any ransom which should not be ruled out by any right thinking person, is such an action a rescue mission? Definately YES 4. It is possible and very possible that the government actually paid ransom so as to persuade the bandits to release the victims as the most save option to get them out alive 5. The events that occurred after their released by the bandits showed that the government forces subsequently engaged the bandits in gun fight to arrest them which was the plan all along. 6. While would the government have deployed that large number of forces comprising of soldier, police, DSS, Local vigilante if not to engage the bandit in gun fight after removing the victims from the picture. 8. Or u have forgotten that two security forces died and some wounded in the operation, and government is currently attending to their family members. Or the government just kill those security men and injured other security just to paint a picture? 9. Nobody needs to tell u that the government would have definately secured back the ransom paid in the first place. The ransom payment if at all it happened was just a decoy to remove the victims from the battle field. 10. So would you still say Ransom was paid? Definately NO. 11. So in Atiku's dull brain, he expects the government to give this details?? |
