4 years after one billion barrels frontier basins discovery: FG shops for investors as NNPC’s $3 billion North oil exploration lags • 13 blocks in Chad Basin, Benue, Niger Delta fail to attract investors • Stakeholders raise concerns over poor seismic data, undersized oil blocks • NNPC mum over proposed refinery, fertiliser plants in Gongola Basin The dream that a private sector-led oil exploration drive will return to northern Nigeria and other frontier basins where taxpayers’ money has been invested in recent years suffered a major setback yesterday after investors outrightly refused to bid for oil blocks in most inland basins.https://guardian.ng/energy/4-years-after-one-billion-barrels-frontier-basins-discovery-fg-shops-for-investors-as-nnpcs-3-billion-north-oil-exploration-lags/

You didn't need a crystal ball to see this coming. There is literally nearly a century's worth of geological prospecting reports and geophysics data which categorically confirms that the crude oil reserves in the so called Northern Basins do not exist in commercial quantities. Yet they continued pouring billions of dollars into searching for something that doesn't exist. Imagine pouring $3 billion down the drain for oil exploration only to discover a paltry 1 billion barrels in the entire Northern Nigeria! Compare that with 40 billion barrels in the Niger Delta region alone. There are small oil fields in the Niger Delta region that holds more crude oil reserves than the entire Northern Nigeria. Do they think the international oil industry will be as gullible as Nigerians and not do risk assessment? You think a negligible 1 billion barrels coupled with insecurity of ISWAP, Ansaru, Boko Haram , Lakurawa etc will attract foreign investment into the oil blocks of Northern Nigeria? This is what happens when sentiment prevails over economic pragmatism.

Government doesn't know more than wasting money. The actual things that need priority aren't addressed is some fictional oil in the north they're looking for. How does this country want to develop with such low IQ leaders at its helm ![]() |

WE CALL POLITICS A SCIENCE, BUT TRULY IT IS NO SCIENCE. POLITICIANS USE PDA TACTICS TO DECIEVE NIGERIANS THE SCIENCE OF RESEARCH DATA SUGGESTS SUCH INVESTMENT IS HIGHLY VOLATILE IN THE NORTH, WITH MORE FACTORS SUCH AS INSECURITY AS A THREAT |

Dangote is from the north. If he doesn't want to invest in oil exploration in the north, it means NNPC wants to scam investors. |

“The outcome of the licensing round was not surprising. Virtually all the blocks located outside the Niger Delta attracted little or no interest from investors. The way these frontier blocks have been partitioned raises serious concerns. Many of the acreages are simply too small to support meaningful exploration activities, with some covering barely 100 square kilometres. For a capital-intensive and high-risk business such as oil exploration, such block sizes are commercially unattractive,” he said.everything under buhari was fraudulent and opaque. people dey run |

The north is a serious problem to this naija...the south has been held back for too long because of the north. As far as they are concerned, oil is easy money! This is the reason why you them having institutions of petroleum this and tha...you see them sponsoring their students, students of their elites to go study petroleum engineering in foreign schools, just imagine?!..for a region that gat no oil! If all this money and energy are channeled towards agro development in the north,it would go to great lengths,it will benefit them in particular and the whole country in general to a very large extent |

This is highly supported. The country shouldn't be wasting money for oil exploration. Let allow private investors to do that. Instead we should be focusing our finances to industrialize the green energy (most especially the lithium and it's associates). |

this is strategically handing it back to those who desperately want oil exploration in the north oilfields in the north are not viable for the following reasons the terrrorism land locked area where you will have to ship all the infrastructure in by road [rail is not yet there] additional infrastructure requires to pipe the oil to the coast for evacuation the multinationals are no longer investing - so it will have to be local. no third party one is going to invest in this in a time when demand for oil is no longer clearly defined let the north elite fund it a JV with NNPC - because no one else will. |

So all the billionaire northerners that made their billions through nepotism and cronyism, don’t they have the confidence to sink some of their billions into buying oil blocks in their region? Or are we to believe Buhari wasted our $3 billion for nothing? Of course we all know a sizeable amount this money went into private pockets! When you see some people clinging on to ‘one Nigeria’ as if their lives depend on it, it’s because of their access to this kind of stupendous wealth! A lot of those billions of dollars would have disappeared under spurious overhead costs headings and other innovative accounting abracadabra! |
