There’s Nowhere Like Home” – Tinubu Appeals to Nigerian Doctors Abroad to Return and Serve the Nation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerian medical professionals living and working overseas to consider returning home and play an active role in strengthening the country’s healthcare system.

The President made the appeal during a meeting with members of the Nigerian Diaspora Medical Associations at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The delegation was led by the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Speaking during the meeting, President Tinubu recalled his personal experience of studying and working in the United States before deciding to return to Nigeria.

He said the knowledge and professional experience he gained abroad helped shape his career, but emphasized that he found greater purpose in contributing to his country’s growth.

According to the President, no matter the opportunities available overseas, Nigeria remains home.

“I’ve been through that journey. I’m home, and I can tell you there’s nowhere like home. I experienced life in America and learned valuable lessons in accountancy and finance before returning to Nigeria. Since coming back, it has been a rewarding challenge to contribute to building our nation,” he said.

Tinubu encouraged members of the diaspora medical community to inspire their colleagues abroad to come back and invest their skills in Nigeria.

He assured them that his administration is committed to creating an environment where healthcare professionals can work effectively and build successful careers.

The President said the Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on improving governance, education, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic opportunities for all Nigerians.

He expressed confidence that ongoing reforms would create a brighter future for younger generations.

“Reach out to your colleagues who are still abroad and encourage them to come home. We are working to create better opportunities and a more supportive environment where Nigerians can thrive. Your contribution to nation-building is invaluable,” he stated.

President Tinubu also reaffirmed his government’s determination to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life across the country.

He said his administration remains focused on delivering economic growth, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that more Nigerians enjoy the benefits of development.

“Poverty is not acceptable. We will continue to fight it, improve the welfare of our people, and build a more prosperous Nigeria,” the President added.

The meeting highlighted the important role Nigerians in the diaspora can play in supporting national development, particularly in the healthcare sector, where the country continues to face shortages of skilled professionals.

The Federal Government has repeatedly emphasized the need for stronger collaboration with Nigerians abroad to improve healthcare delivery, transfer knowledge, and strengthen critical sectors of the economy.

This is the height of delusional grandeur. When Tinubu is sick , he runs to France, yet he is begging doctors abroad to come back home.

Dear President, first prove there is no place like home by completely stopping your medical tourism.

As the poster above me has rightly said.

Also, how do you define this level of cluelessness? You're calling on world-class professionals to come "home" to a home that's not homely - so a Medical Doctor who maybe is from Borno, should leave his job as a Consultant Surgeon in Dubai, and come "home" to Maiduguri? Meanwhile once you run temperature, fiam, you go run go France.

Remove the iroko in your eyes first Sah.

The other day, your Madam said celebrities should not buy luxury cars again, but bring their money for what government has failed to provide, days before, same Madam dash women "leaders" exotic cars while advising "ordinary women" to setup startups in Kulikuli and Groundnut Logistics.

E be like e get the bad wey our Heroes past do wey make us dey get bad leaders back to back sha, may God forgive us.

I wouldn't say cunning - cunning assumes strategy and wit. Clueless and delusional is more like it. 🙂

This man bragged while campaigning that he will make Nigeria so good that Nigerians abroad will beg and rush to return home, now he is begging?

Return home to do what exactly?

Recently, I was planning on visiting Germany to buy a new car I will send down to Nigeria for my use when I visit, but with the now viral police stop and search video racially profiling Igbos, why will I ever want to visit Nigeria?

I am 1000% better off here (England) in all ramifications than in Nigeria where though I am a free born, I suffer racism, bigotry and violence that will damage my mental health and that of my kids.

Nigeria is a joke of a country!

It's also not their willingness to leave the shores of this country. It's just a pity that the state of our health system is very worrisome.

Most of them never really left.. they still have active links with their roots.

Instead of appealing to doctors to come back home, why not tackle the insecurity that is making people, most especially professionals to flee the country in droves.. even in the animal kingdom, you don't see the senseless killings like what we are facing currently in Nigeria. A place where human lives no longer have value, where justice is being subverted to please some quarters.
How will you convince a trained MD to leave a secure environment and return to an insecure one because 'no place like home'. Someone should please make it make sense.

Doctors are in highest paid bracket all across the world especially in Western World , Very few doctors are coming back to China and India and u expect them to come back to Nigeria .

People got accustomed to hearing Sob stories from lower wage Nigerians and how bills are killing them , but very rarely have any Doctors of all nationalities whether Nigeria ,China or India have spoken about it .

Doctors , if they are well mannered and accustomed to Western system . they are balling and this cuts across all nations

Remuneration?

When a cleaner in UK can sacrifice 4 or 5 years of his life, work hard and be better off than a doctor in Nigeria (assuming they get paid when due).

Just the thought of living in Nigeria and her multiple man-invented challenges is enough to make doctors stay away.
