I thought Redmi Note is from Xiaomi? I'm on Note 12 now and the Notes have never let me down though people complain my camera is not sharp, but nothing consign me. How much is the real Xiaomi if Note is not the original
Yes redmi is the a and m series in samsung while xiaomi is like the S series in samsung
Xiaomi are more expensive with oled screens and slick design but Redmi and Poco are rugged

He was not wise and I will repeat it

He could have been killed and even if they were on video it would not have brought him baxk

I hope you will not be telling uniformed men you meet while travelling that you work in an oil company or you just came from uk

We have been taking on this platform about how dangerous it is travelling by road. Your goal if you don't have escort and even if you do is to make your trip as quick as possible while being as incognito as possible

In a country with security issues and police in cahoots with kidnappers you want your trip to be as uneventful as possible

Winning an argument is not worth the potential risk to your life.

You also need to understand police you will meet while traveling are a whole different breed from police in the city. It is just you and them. No crowd to gather to video, no one you can call at short notice for backup. Just some of the rawest Nigerian police there are
Yeah, I struggled with this.
I think giving them money enables them to continue and so is a moral issue, but then you start balancing it with just trying to make it through your trip safely.

A did a trip from to the East from Lagos when it was safer to do so (g/f had it on her bucket list to do that drive herself and begged me).. Ok..
On the way there we got stopped a lot. She's driving(her bucket list), I have a heavy jjc accent, so I let her do her thing and talk to them.
But she does not back down esp. when she's in the right. So, each stop got time consuming and we were already pressed since we left Lagos later than we should.
After the 2nd stop, I had had enough. I was concerned, we would be driving in the dark, which we ended up doing. And the cost of that would be potentially more. So, I just said we'd just pull over and give each person a certain amount and keep it moving.

So unfortunately, you're right. Just pay and keep it moving.
Nigeria at times pushes you to be a different version of yourself.

Like I said before I am very stubborn as well but as I get older I have to ask myself whether being in the right constituted a victory. As it is today my default choice is to actively avoid the routes these people are on. My dislike and contempt for them is almost always viable in my demeanor and so they become even more aggressive during our encounters.

A colleague used to be like that as well and one time on a journey from Lagos to edo the police wound up throwing his daughter to the ground. The question was simple - you were in the right but could you have forseen that outcome?

THEATRE COMMAND OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA INTENSIFIES EFFORTS TO RESCUE ABDUCTED BUNGUDU LGA CHAIRMAN

In the early hours of today, 25 July 2026, armed terrorists attacked the residence of the Executive Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area, Zamfara State, Honourable Nura Umar Abdullahi, abducting him and members of his family after overpowering his police and vigilante detail.

On hearing gunshots, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA responded immediately and swiftly moved to the scene where they engaged in hot pursuit of the terrorists leading to a fierce exchange of fire. Troops' prompt intervention forced the terrorists to abandon 5 of the Chairman's family members comprising 2 of his children, mother, wife and his relatives, who were successfully rescued. However, the terrorists narrowly escaped into surrounding bushes with the Chairman. Sadly, the attack claimed the lives of members of the Chairman's security detail, including 2 policemen and 1 local vigilante who gallantly resisted the attackers. Also, a civilian was killed while the Chairman’s elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar was injured during the attack.

Following the incident, the Theatre Command activated a coordinated search and rescue operation involving troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilante. Security forces are currently conducting deliberate operations at the suspected location of the terrorists, aimed at safely rescuing the abducted Chairman.

The Theatre Command has deployed all available resources in the ongoing operation and remains in close coordination with participating security agencies. The Theatre Command assures the Government and people of Zamfara State that every lawful and operational measure is being taken to achieve a successful outcome.

The Command appeals to members of the public to remain calm, continue with their lawful activities and provide credible information through established security channels that may assist the ongoing operation.

The Theatre remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property and will continue working with sister security agencies until the abducted Chairman is safely reunited with his family and the perpetrators are brought to justice.

@ibime I and my business partner have/had Samsung phones. Both our phones developed faults at periods when we could needed urgent backups and could not shell out 500 to 900k. We bought xiaomi.

The ui is not as smooth as that of Samsung and it has a tendency to aggressively push ads and wallpaper themes at you.

It's an issue for me, but my pikins who I got xiaomi phones for have embraced the themes and are using their own unique styles.

IMHO just ensure you buy a phone with reasonably high spec and you will be fine.

Don't know what particular features are important in the UK, but for me personally I use the phone to make calls, as a work communication tool (WhatsApp), for site pictures, to faff around on Nairaland, to browse reddit, watch YouTube videos.

Last time I played a game on a phone must have been years ago. Outside of that one or two productivity apps I don't really use. I am sure you are the same

I have never personally been able to justify buying a high end Samsung or iPhone. A good 4k TV was 500 to 800k. This was also the price of a phone. I can enjoy a movie, TV shows and games on a giant screen. Why would I be watching a movie on a 6 inch screen? All that 2k or 4k screen resolution Etal makes no technical sense to me on a 5 or 6 inch screen. Imho valve understood this which is why steam deck resolution is 720p. Theres always talk about using your phone as a pc replacement or supplementary device, but if you are an actual power user this becomes bs very quickly. Some of my guys in the field have edited office documents on thier phones with horrible results. Document formatting 101% scattered.

If you are looking for a redmi alternative maybe go for the new Motorolas. Jerryrigeverything had a great review for a $500 model recently that he compared with the s26.

I suspect that as a numbers guy you are not impressed with the real value proposition of high end Samsung phones especially as they are not a UK status symbol. You guys did invent classicism, after all.

Also there is the Samsung a series from a0x to a7x I think. These are budget Samsungs and the 0 to the 7 apparently indicates the grade. For instance the a0x series is almost all plastic, two lenses with mediatek. A5x has amoled (I think) with three to four lenses.
Invest in a good Samsung @Ibime. S23-24

No be about classism. That's the only brand I know you can use 4-5 years with no issues. As far you don't crack the screen

No phone like Samsung IMO

I noticed most of my phones in this budget range last 3 years before becoming slightly slow, not that there is much problem, then I change them.

If I'm using Redmi at £120 for 3 years with no issues, that's £40 per year depreciation

If I'm using Samsung S24 for 5 years with no issues, that's £100 per year depreciation

The Redmi beats the Samsung on the Maths. Not really a techie guy that will need all the extra features. By the time you put screen protector and protective case, I can't tell one phone from another

I think I am a techie and imho when all is said and done for most adults a phone or tablet is largely a media consumption device.

Maybe the younger generation can be manipulated by big tech into using a phone or tablet for work, but for me outside of some productivity apps and email and site pictures, the phone is just there. It cannot match a pc for document editing, management and organisation.

As it is I am trying to get the different teams to do proper document management. WhatsApp is great for day to day site oversight, but lousy when you need to compile a week's or months data if you have not properly set up a system. On top of that let anyone lose their phone or have their phone crash and data may be lost.

One reason for the proliferation of budget devices in Nigeria is that you will find most end users use your flagship phone and your high end phone exactly the same way. The best they will do is have someone at the store 'load' the device for them with free apps. I doubt if most Samsung flagship device users can tell you the free app subscriptions bundled with their phones. I had a galaxy note three some years back. Then any Samsung device came with one year of Evernote subscription. Two years of Dropbox for new users. But I doubt your average phone user even knows what dropbox or Evernote is. E no go pass to install bible or Quran app.

Seems Airtel ODU “unlimited “ data plan has a 1TB data fair usage policy after all .

I noticed that during my last sub the network speed was pretty slow like 4 days before my next sub . So yesterday I was 14 days away from my next cycle of payment for renewal .

I logged on to the router and discovered I had used 1.17TB of data since my last sub after experiencing terrible data speed . Then I did some google search and confirmed that once you cross 1TB data usage on the airtel unlimited package , your network speed will revert to “
Snail speed per seconds “‘.

Las las, there’s no true unlimited data plan in naija .

Cc: Iamoyindamola, sportsweb , GloriousGbola
My ODU don't even reach 1TB before it start snail speed, after 15 days of my subscription on November 2025, about 250GB data used, I was so hurt I stopped subscribing. I wanna give it another go even if it's 1TB not the 250GB they gave me! Is it selective?

A Series is also good and probably better for Ibime since he no wan too spend but S-series to me is much better if you care about camera and processing speed.

Screen issues I feel like you have to totally smash your screen to have issues with Samsung. Anyway without being told you should probably get Gorilla glass protection

I no know as I go explain am to you but it's not about the ability to tell from outside, it's about when you're using both you will easily tell the difference.

You said people were complaining about your camera. You will definitely not have those problems with a Samsung.

Obviously if you're going strictly on costs it's not even an argument Redmi is better

But durability, functions and just the UX. It's not close

Most of those apps sef na your normal bloatware

If you're not heavy on tech or phone features you no too need the Galaxy series tbh. A Series will do the job

Preaching inside commercial bus is actually something I have been wishing was banned right from when I was young. It amounts to constituting public nuisance, especially with the way they do it inside commercial buses in Lagos.

It's also the same way I detest people who would leave their area, go to someone else's area or estate, place a huge speaker on the floor and start preaching as early as 5am, 6am.... Some people worked overnight and are trying to catch some sleep, but u will use Ur preaching to ensure they don't have restful morning sleep.

People can get preached to in their church, on theif favorite radio or TV station, and even dedicated satellite TV channels like DoveTV, etc.

It makes no sense disturbing everyone in a public space with preaching they might not be interested in. People should respect other people's right to decorum.
