Nigerian-American Harvard Grad Develops World's First Braid-Assist Robot by israelmao(op): 7:10am On Jul 25
A Nigerian -America engineer and Harvard graduate,Yinka Ogunbiyi, has developed HaloBraid, described as the world's first braid-assist robot designed to ease the physical strain on hairstylists and save time for saloms

The US Mission in Nigeria disclosed this is a post in X on Friday, saying the innovation had raised $7m and attracted more than 7000 salons to its wait-list.

" Nigerian-American engineer & Harvard Grad Yinka Ogunbiyi built HaloBraid, the world's first braid-assist robot easing strain on stylist & saving salons time.

"$6M raised 7000+ salons waitlisted American innovation, global impact #AmericanExcellence in action," the mission wrote.

It hailed Nigerian-American entrepreneur after she raised $7m in seed funding to launch HaloBraid, described as the world's first patiented braid- assist mechanical technology.

The funding round was led by Seven Seven Six,the venture capital firm founded by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, with addi investments from AlleyCorp and Bling Capital.

The funding will support the market rollout of HaloBraid, which already has more than 7,000 professional hair salons in it's waiting list.

Ogunbiyi holds a joint Master of Science and Master of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Engineering School and Harvard Business School and has a professional background in developing connected smart home appliances and consumers electronics.

The idea for HaloBraid emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic after Ogunbiyi spent four days installing her own protective knotleds braids.

Recognizing the opportunity to apply technology to the labour-intensive proces, she partnered with co-founder David Afolabi to develop an automated alternative.

However, the technology is designed to assist human hairstylists rather than replace them.

The robotic system is designed to handle the repetitive mis-sjaft braiding process which accounts for a significant part of a typical salon appointment.

Under the system, the hairstylist begins the process by parting the scalp, sectioning the hair and creating the initial anchor knot by hand.

HaloBraid

The HaloBraid unit then attached to carry out the repetitive braiding sequence before the stylist removes it to finish, trim and seal the ends according to the clinent's preferences.

PUNCH Online reports that HaloBraid is official website for the robotic braiding assistant.

Addressing concerns that automation could dilute the cultural essence of hertiage hairstyling,Ogunbiyi said, " I didn't think anything will get from the experience.[/b]

It’s not fully autonomous.

Hairdressers will still work hand in hand with it. it’s only going to do the repetitive part of braiding.

So human 20%, robot 80%.

Are you guys ready to pay the harvard level fees that would enable us have universities like Harvard that would develop those talents? NO.

Are you guys ready to pay the kind of taxes that would add funding to our education system, and make it able to generate such talents? NO

Are you ready to vote for leaders that would make us stop relying on Niger delta oil, and start relying on brainpower and industrial growth and science, and ijnnovation, from scratch? NO.

Are you ready to vote for a leader that would grant generous tax breaks for people to set up industries at home, whether small or large scale, with generous tarrif free imports of raw materials where needed? NO...you will even say that government is dashing him cheap forex at expense of masses.

Are you ready to have the government remove subsides on electricty so that the companies supplying you power can make enough profit to buy your wires and transformers, and the gencos can make enough money to improve generating capacity? NO.

Are you ready to stop doing things like lynching people, being tribalistic, and being bitter, and so forth that drive away investors from the country? NO

Are you ready to vote in corrupt free politicans, and demand explanations from Obi for pandora, tinubu for alpha beta and bullion vans, and even Atiku for privatization and so forth? NO.

So, stop the crap, and change yourselves.

Largely because the "guys" are largely hungry and want to at the least, be able to afford their basic meals.

You blame government for everything.
It shows lack of responsibility on your part.

Did you read anywhere that was assisted by the government?

Private companies funded her.
If she had asked for the same funding in Nigeria how much would you have contributed. You would never hand given her N1.
But the same Nigerians will spend money to run campaigns for BBNaija house mates.
You will raise money to sponsor students who fake results like Mmesoma, but when the real top scorer came out nobody gave the kid N1 naira.... Yet you donated to the one with fake results....

If Peller ask for donations for wedding now una go run send am. But you won't donate to that young boy that just made the prototype of a solar powered Keke.....

Sit down and keep blaming the government.

Americans built America, not the American government.
Go and read up on Ford and many others who built America, they built the rail roads, the highways etc.
You are not contributing anything to the economy yet you want everything

So we should forever remain underdeveloped, and you guys should stop complaining, and start worshipping Tinubu ten times a day, with freewill offerings of akara and moin moin, and large cows on weekends.

I am tired of the poverty excuse. We either take hard action, or we stop complaining about how things don't happen in Nigeria because government cannot pay ex. We need to change a lot of things before we can become a leader in world class research.

South Korea was once behind Nigeria, as was China. Now they are far ahead of us. Shey they had hungry people then, not so?

I see ya point(and it is a very very good one), but at the end, the robot has to be repaired, and fixed, the minerals to make the robot have to be dug up from the ground and processed, and so forth.

And at the moment, there is no system whereby all of that can be done without human intervention. So, some jobs lost, lots of new ones still created.
