The lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, has claimed that the naira note redesign under former Central Bank Governor, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, made Peter Obi defeat President Bola Tinubu in Lagos in the 2023 general elections.

Oshiomhole made this claim on Monday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on TVC.

According to him, it was the anger of Emefiele’s ‘crazy’ attempt to choke and suffocate the system when he was not able to contest for president that produced Peter Obi.

“I have said this but many people may not agree. Obi was produced by an unusual situation. When a ruling party decided to destroy itself as to make anybody running election on its platform unelectable. It is that confusion that brought those votes to Peter Obi.

“I can speak to it. Former President Muhammadu Buhari suddenly changed the colour of the currency and virtually confiscated people’s money.

People had money in the bank, but they can’t access it, they go to ATM machine, they queue all night to get 10,000, and after a week, even the ATM were dried of cash.

“People started going to the Point-on-Sale, POS. And I remember one statement somebody made, which captured the situation, that why will you queue all night to withdraw 5000? Then you go and queue for two nights to get 10 liters of PMS and then those people expect that on election day, you will queue to vote for them ?

“It is this anger that, in my view, deliberately created by the president before Tinubu that made people vote against the APC in Lagos, making Peter Obi to defeat President Tinubu,” Oshiomhole said.

Were APC planning to buy votes? Why wasn't that the case in Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun and Oyo (no thanks to Makinde)? Buhari wanted the people's will to prevail, devoid of voter inducement. Tinubu is more unpopular now than he was in 2023. He can only win Lagos this time by resorting to tribal sentiments and vote buying.

Not sure about this theory, but it does make some sense, and it may also account for why APC lost votes in the North.

EVEN THEN, APC lost far too many votes in 2023 compared to 2019 for this to be the only reason

(BTW, the cashless policy of Buhari was a good idea, but as EL-Rufai said around that time, most Nigerians, especially in the rural areas, don't have access to POS, talkless of banking service).

Buhari didn't want the people's will to prevail, his supporters and tinubu's supporters were engaged in open warfare, and the cashless policy got caught up in it.

Every party, even Obi's, buys votes. It's a harsh reality, and the painful thing is most voters expect to be offered monies for their votes. It's like someone I knew once said after the 2003 elections, a guy living on less than a dollar a day has no qualms in accepting the equivalent of one dollar for vote. THat's today's bread taken care of.

It is our poverty mentality that is preventing most nigerians from thinking about voting for sane candidates, and even many of them define a sane candidate as someone from their tribe self. That's why we have tinubus, and not our version of LKY's.

The Naira redesign affected almost every Nigerians from every part of Nigeria in a Negative way

Majority of Nigerians didn't partake in the Election. The turn out in the Presidential Election was not even up to 30%

Not far from the truth, add the islamization narrative. APC had people fighting internally tooth and nail to make sure anyone but Tinubu. Folks like the CBN govo, followers of the former VP, and Amaechi faction. But God pass them.

The logic you people use is too illogical to find a logic to it.

So because Peter Obi won lagos with about 10,000 votes than President Tinubu that means Tinubu is unpopular?

Every sane person knows that Buhari and his handlers in the cabal like Malami and co didn't want APC to survive that 2023 election because they wanted the former senate president from north east to be the presidential candidate of APC after they couldn't get CBN governors to be on the ballot. So the cashless policy was launched to discourage people from voting for APC and Tinubu.

I have said it several times that the reason Tinubu went for a muslim muslim ticket is because Atiku was in the race that was supposed to be for southern candidates but when your IQ is very low you will not understand.
