They look smart and clever.

I really love the trend, than the usual skimpy and razz dressing among our university students.
Dont mind them, infact it is a very good idea considering the age groups of students entering universities now. Uniform will make them feel focus and under the control of school authority like secondary school system. Though the uniforms should be more cooperate in outlooks and never be enforce from 300L and above.

Are these public universities? When did all this nonsense start in Nigerian universities? During my time only law students wore uniforms. I wouldn't even even call it uniform, it was a specific dress code
I doubt they were mandated, from those pictures it seem those students are into exams as such they might choose a uniform for signing out.

even one of the pictures showed a group wearing polo shirts so it means it is all a signing out paparazzi.

Is Nigeria the only country where students are prone to indecent dressing? Why don't we have this in other countries all over the world?
Every man for his own house. Every man will treat his home according to the ways and manner of his children and character of his wife. cheesy

I doubt any university mandates it students to wear school uniforms everyday. I have cousins in the university and all they have is departmental dress codes. The same type law students have. One colour and black pants/skirts. It existed in my days too. We didn't wear it everyday, just one day of the week or during exams or test. In the attached pictures, it is obvious they were taking some kinda test.

I stand to be corrected by any undergraduate. Even Covenant and co never do reach like this. Come be public uni.

I don't think it exists in universities. Except for law, nursing, and few professional courses students which is understandable. This is peculiar to polytechnics. I don't know the reason for them doing it. But don't think it's a university thing.
Do research before you think. That is the problem of most Nigerians. They 'think', but cannot research on things.

I have noticed this trend in many Nigerian universities, and it is gradually becoming a norm. I wonder what the purpose of this uniform madness is.

Very soon, MSc and PhD students would be required to wear uniforms. Uniform should be for students in specific departments or faculties, and it is even suppose to be for specific days when practical or field work is to be done. Now, every department in most Nigerian universities wear uniforms everyday.

The photos below are from one particular university in Nigeria.
It's part of the fallen standard in education in Nigeria.
Managers of the universities where students are ordered to wear uniform see university as secondary school.

OP note that universities don't impose uniforms on students rather it's the students who decided to impose uniforms on themselves. These varies per department, perhaps to make them (the students of particular departments) look identifiable and unique among other students of the same institution.
I doubt if students will impose uniforms on themselves. Most university students prefer to wear trendy clothes and are likely to kick against a uniform except it is a departmental or faculty directive that will attract sanctions on dissenting students.

Don't worry, you are allowed to wear your oversized Pablo polo and combat tear-tear jeans that looks a mad man's trousers to class. In fact fry your hair and do dreadlocks. Your lecturer will applaud you..

When you spend 4-6 years wearing all that, and find it hard to look respectable and corporate post-graduation, you will start blaming police for stopping and profiling you as a Yahoo boy while driving to your office.

Did students impose a uniform on themselves in the university you attended?

Kindly tell us the school, department and year so that others on this platform can corroborate

Increasing influence of Islam on Nigerians.is reason for uniform in university in Nigeria.

Muslim women in these uniform universities can wear hijab or burqa but non Muslim women are not allowed to choose what they want to wear.
The more reason why Nigeria must be dissolved into more countries.

While spending every waking moment chasing trends with little resources left for the purpose of their stay.

Better to feel oppressed so you can focus and get the hell.out of there in record time.

It is not a life sentence you know. After that you still wear a uniform in youth service....then forty, fifty, sixty years of liberty to wear whatever you like and make whatever of your life.

The academia has always revolved around discipline and conservativeness.

It's a way to curb excesses, I think. It's not okay where moral standards are still in existence. But when and where adults are less decent to the consternation of animal sense, fear prevails. What you see, therefore, are uniforms showing the uniformity of fear.

I don't blame schools with dress code. When I was in ilorin, a woman who work with Kwara state polytechnic then work more and night to make sure those girls dress properly.. they called her alhaja dress code, she is late as I heard (may her memory be a blessing).....it may not be today, it may not be Tom, but one day those generation may start going nude.
