Fourteen states issue joint statement backing Saudi-led maritime defence coalition

Fourteen states, including Turkiye, Pakistan, Egypt, Sudan and Djibouti, have issued a joint statement supporting the proposed multinational maritime defence coalition, Saudi Arabia’s Defence Ministry says.

The statement — also signed by Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Yemen, Bangladesh, Nigeria and Somalia — welcomed progress on the coalition’s founding arrangements. Other participating states expressed support but are still completing domestic procedures to formally join, with the door left open for further signatories.

The announcement followed a Defence Ministry-hosted meeting of military chiefs of staff and representatives from allied nations, along with the EU delegation to the kingdom, to advance Riyadh’s initiative. The meeting drew chiefs of staff or representatives from 43 countries, plus the EU delegation, out of 51 invited — attending either in person or virtually.

The push comes amid an escalating Red Sea shipping crisis: the Houthis declared a “maritime blockade” on Saudi Arabia on July 20 and have since struck Saudi tankers, forcing Riyadh to reroute oil exports through Red Sea ports after the earlier closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

I think we should be in this category and not among nations already signed up to fight Saudi's war on Yemen.

Our parliament should have been consulted and approval obtained before our military leaders sign up for such war expedition.

It is Trump's war, not my war as a Patriotic Nigerian. My Asiwaju will not fight Trump's war or waste the lives of our armed forces members to fight Trump-Saudi's wars on Iran and Yemen.

Meanwhile...

The Saudis couldn't defeat the Houthis for years now. I wonder why they think inviting more countries in support will help them. The Houthis don't have ships or maritime assets but they have anti-ship missiles and they don't hesitate to use them.

News broke a few hours ago that the Houthis entered Iraq and are launching attacks on Saudi Arabia from there. As insane as the Iranians are, they at least entertain dialogue from time to time. The Houthis however are a group of people the devil himself has given up on. They fear no one. Israel, France, the UK, US and Saudi Arabia have all bombed them but to them it was just a minor inconvenience. They operate on hard core mode 24/7.

There is a reason Saudi Arabia is panicking now. The Houthis want to make sure not one drop of oil can be exported from Saudi Arabia.

Nigeria should avoid this fight. The couple of tin cans our navy is managing to float on the ocean thinking they are ships will get blown up the moment they approach anywhere near the Yemeni coast.

Nigeria must NOT join this NONSENSE.

We have our OWN security issues to DEAL with.
Let Saudi Arabia carry their own CROSS.

They were the first one to initiate a BLOCKADE on Yemen's Airport.
They even BOMBED their Airport.

Now that Yemen is responding in KIND, they are looking for INNOCENT countries to help them carry their BURDEN.

Plus, countries that are getting involved in the Middle East Crisis CREATED by the PDFile have been having their oil facilities TARGETED.

Dangote Refinery is the ONLY active refinery in Nigeria.
That's why Nigerians still see oil to BUY.

IF it's DESTROYED, the queue in Filling Stations will reach Saturn.

Nigeria MUST abstain!

Saudis are dumbfck inbreds.

They had everything at their disposal from US aircraft carrier fleet lobbing missiles into Houthi strong holds, Israeli air force conducting daily raids, Blackwater mercs and IDF goons squads and even dropped several tactical nukes (courtesy of IAF) and still could not beat the Houthis and they ended up having to pay Houthis to stop harassing their tankers.

With the straits of Hormuz closed by Iran, the Saudis began piping their crude across the Arabian desert from their oil rich eastern oil fields to their western ports.

Iran began bombing their pipelines and the Houthis will later close the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

Now Saudis can't export their crude either through the straits of Hormuz or via the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

As per Nigeria joining in, this is as a result of the disaster Buhari signing us into a military coalition headed by Saudi Arabia.

This is due to Buhari signing us into a military pact with Saudi Arabia .

I am sure Tinubu will just send one frigate that will be stationed off the coast of Djibouti and wil not see any action whatsoever.

Why should the Saudis stress themselves when they can use others to do the work, when they can utilize the brains of experts.

Our president has gone mad again!

Joining coalition with the same entities funding terrorism within your borders. Fantastic. Or maybe that's the leverage they are using against him.

Saudi Arabia does not learn. It has been fighting the Houthis since 2014 and now it thinks a coalition would help her. U.S had to escape the Houthis trap 2024 and had a ceasefire agreement with the Houthis.

Iran is showing strength never seen before.

Meanwhile, The Strait of Hormuz was never under Iranian control and was wide open before America started the senseless war, America thought she could just invade countries at will and get away with it but the Iranians became a bone in their throat that is hard for the Americans to swallow...grin grin grin

America fooooolishly handed over the control of the Strait of Hormuz to Iran, something Iran never thought would be a very big leverage and could create a global economic meltdown....grin grin grin

Intel has it that Iran is now planning to use the underwater Internet cables underneath the Strait of Hormuz as another very big leverage, that cables serves 95% of global Internet connections...grin grin grin

The Americans are focused on preventing Iran from having a Nuclear Weapon but fooooolishly handed them the Strait of Hormuz that is far more powerful and globally devastating than any Nuclear weapon...no be juju be that?...grin grin grin

No US President was fooooolish enough to start a war with Iran knowing what the consequences would be until Dummmbb Trump showed up...grin grin grin

The headline should read, Nigeria joins Islamic nations to fight against Houthis blockade.
Nonsense, what have this Muslim countries done to assist us in our security challenges? Aside the west, they kept mute and now we are talking assets to aid their trouble...Lugard I curse the day you were born.

Saudi Arabia is generally regarded as the regional leader of the gulf region. So, it's understandable that major countries have to rally around them and protect them in this trying moment.

Houtis is controlling Yemen and becoz Saudi has tried to remove them b4 and replace them with a truly recognizable and indegenous govt, they have been having continuous beef and issues with Saudi.

Nigeria should not join this war in any way. And Nigeria is not wise even taking sides. We need to sort out many of our internal security and deep financial issues first.

Saudi Arabia is only good in surprise attack when it comes to fighting back to back they can't. The same happened in 2014 where they have to negotiate with the Houthis. The same thing will happen.
