NPFL: Clubs Without Functional Websites Risk Losing Licensing — Owumi Warns by solbase10(op): 9:00am On Jul 31
Davidson Owumi, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), has warned participating clubs to create and maintain functional websites to improve access to club content and verifiable information or risk losing their club licences, Completesports.com reports.

Owumi gave the warning in Enugu during a seminar/workshop for club Media Officers, Media Directors and Marketing Officers titled ‘NPFL/Afrinvest Marketing Investments, Brand Merchandising and Media’, organised by the league body in conjunction with Afrinvest.

Our standards in this country are terribly low

So, clubs in Nigeria do not have functional websites?

Same way with some government agencies, without any functioning website, where information could be shared

State Governments need to hands off sports business. Clubs needs to think of how to generate their own money. How will clubs use their senses when their board members get free salary at the end of the month whether they win or lose.

And just like that a quick business/ work opportunity unfolds, information is truly power. So sad that a good amount of my fellow naija youths wont get this info or get it when it's late, why? Simply because they don't maximise the use of that phone in their hands.
They'll be caught watching inconsequential contents online, rather than look and seek opportunities with that same smartphone, chai it's rather sad sha 😢

what they need is to standardize our league

Our league is too local and unserious

The planing comitee should be people who want the league to compete with europe top leagues but sadly the people in the planning committee are after their pocket

Nigeria have the money to build functional stadium like that of Tottenham Fc, but looters since centuries ago with not let it manifest.
Re: NPFL: Clubs Without Functional Websites Risk Losing Licensing — Owumi Warns by Hemanwel(m): 11:06am On Jul 31
In 2026, a so-called professional club in Nigeria doesn't have a website!

We seriously need to start seeing football as a big business.

I can't even say this outside the shores of the country.
Re: NPFL: Clubs Without Functional Websites Risk Losing Licensing — Owumi Warns by Freshtruth(m): 11:06am On Jul 31
Oga let them start by having their football stations like enyimba tv, let them have their own newspapers, Nairaland forum should promote our leagues to Nigerians, the American music's was dominating until Nigeria wake up who said we can't compete with EPL. We have the Billionaires in numbers make the price Money 150 billionaire for winners . Watch how the Elites start owning clubs in Nigeria.

Nigeria is not a football nation

If you are a web developer, start contacting every sports club you can find now, instead of wallowing away your time on TikTok and FB.

If you are smart enough, you should know it is time to Cash out and find a way to officially reach out to them and make a proposal to them.

Infact, a smart person will even present to them a demo of what their website would look like but here you are saying they should reach out to you.
Osheyyy
Mark Zuckerberg well done grin cheesy

some foreign clubs struggle to pay salary some times. Teams from france, Spain, Germany, italy aren't exempted. Even almighty Barca was struggling at a point.

Re: NPFL: Clubs Without Functional Websites Risk Losing Licensing — Owumi Warns by Bernadette9:
This one na story story.
They're talking about creating a website. I just hope when some of the clubs decides to have websites, it won't end up like many other government websites, launched with fanfare and then abandoned without updates.
Why are people surprised that Nigerian clubs don't have website.
We've listened to interview where a club public relations officer was asked about his social media handle and he said i don't have because I'm not a social media person (can you imagine that). If you're not a social media person, what the hell are you doing being a public relations officer of an organization?
We've seen Nigerian embassies abroad with websites carrying outdated information that hasn't been updated in years. Many government agencies don't even have working phone lines where citizens can get help, yet we're expected to trust that this website will be different.
Most football clubs in Nigeria are owned by state governments, and we all know how poorly sports are managed in many states. Political interference, poor funding, and lack of accountability have done more harm than good.
The government should gradually step away from running football clubs and allow them to operate independently, attract private investment, and generate their own revenue. The private sector has consistently demonstrated better management and greater efficiency in Nigeria.
If the government keeps its hands off football and focuses on creating the right policies and regulatory environment instead, Nigerian football and sports will grow, become more competitive, and reach their full potential.
Even the website of NPFL wey dey talk sef get k-leg.
