Tony Elumelu has hinted at plans by Nigerian billionaires to buy Nigerian league clubs. This he revealed while reacting to a post by a social media user, Adedayo Mustapha, suggesting that.

Can we get the President and Ministry of Sport to weigh in on the big corporations in Nigeria to buy at least one league club as part of CSR? Imagine dangote buys Kano pillars, BUA buys Kwara United, elumelu acquires rivers United, geregu takes over 3sc. Imagine the competition

Adedayo Mustapha

This is a nice idea 👍🏽.

The Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh
@OwanEnoh, is already thinking along this line and has approached me and we are already evaluating viability.

That's because the league currently lacks investors. Most of the clubs are managed by state governors who care very little about the welfare of the players.

With the right investors, enough money would be pumped into the league. Thus increasing the quality of players, giving it a facelift and an increased fan base. And with time we'll give the south African league a run for their money. Youths would troop into various stadiums across the country every week to catch a glimpse of the action.

Even European clubs wouldn't mind coming down here for pre-season tour cos our league would be standard.

Long overdue.
Nigeria already has a huge football-crazy population. Now imagine our local and Continental leagues been developed to the level of the European ones we have come to like, the potential is immense and could even be a catalyst for further African advancement when the monetary/business aspect of football is unleashed.

do you want it to grow to the standard of the European leagues? If yes, how will that be possible without investment being poured into it?

Poor people are already seeing failure from the investment before it kicks off. If the sport business succeeds same people will be shouting monopoly.

It's a good idea but with the nature of local leagues, how many people buy tickets to go watch live local matches Possibility of investment will now be minimal except if they want to run charity.

low thinking bro. There are several ways to make and generate money with football leagues. Branding, sponsorship, TV rights, ticketing etc

Why is that?
Before the big guns put in money there has to be alot of reforms.
If this sees the light of day and we can somehow divert the cult like following of European league to our local league. Big man Tony will make more money from rivers united than UBA
