They're currently distributing free prepaid meters in EKITI. Though, the installers charge 20-30k as installation fee

This government will always put the cart before the horse.
Customers are the one providing the infrastructure for power within their communities, things like transformers, electric cables, poles and even labour, when ever they want power.
Now, the power company will come and lay claim to all these without reimbursement.
The government doesn't protect the consumer, it rather defend it friends in the power sector.

Nigerians cannot forgive billions of naira renovations, fake agencies, misplaced priority projects, extremely high insecurity and government’s inability to fight it, extravagant government spending and so on after they have been subjected to extreme poverty.

No police reform, still a very corrupt police and justice system, still high corruption in the oil sector, still high corruption everywhere, virtually no reform, only indirect taxation.

You can’t explain Tinubu’s failures. People are feeling and seeing it daily. It’s not something you can gaslight a Nigerian about, that’s why you should wear your helmet out there to avoid sunburn.

Nigeria a nation rooted in corruption from presidency to a normal layman. Corruption is deeply rooted in our systems and way of life. Its in Nigeria people pay outrageous bills, its in Nigeria to do something to their Meter to stop reading, its in Nigeria filling stations try to cheat etc I can name it all. Corruption is a culture in Nigeria.

nothing good comes free .

It takes a lot of gut to remove subsidies and I am so happy this is happening. Subsidies habe killed Nigeria.

What is going to happen? Govt will keep on doing it, and they will over do it. Lol. Then, everyone will sit tight and the fight will be real. A balance will be reached somehow. Lol.

For example, govt will want to remove all subsidies on agric too. Lol. Thats when they will realise that ha...mmmba!!! Lol.

But sincerely speaking....electric, gas, oil, subsidies must go. People will sit tight now. Discos will go wild with illegal connections and deal ruthlessly with their dishonest staff memebers. Thats it. All the chicken change bribes were and there will end.

Customers too will start raising alutas at a slight cheat from Discos.

Also, solar will take over. The lithium industry will come into effects. Govt will quickly start taxing solar panels mounted on roofs. Lol. Na so na. Discos will be proactive. Guess what...people will start installing more energy than they need and sell to Discos. You find customers taking weekly or monthly payments from Discos soon instead of what is happening now.

This is making the system work out by itself instead of forcing it to work with subsidies. Subsidies only created opportunists in Nigeria because we took it too far. We should habe balanced it a long time ago.

I support using subsidies the right way and not using it toncreat more problems.

Everyone will sit tight. Everyone will be fine.

free prepaid is still subsidy.
How come out of all the countries in the world it's only in Nigeria and their fellow mumu African countries that subsidies are bad

Sooner or later Nigerians will have to realize that having stable electricity is not cheap, the reality may be difficult to bear but even Developed countries, cost of electricity is not cheap, but Nigerians should think long term and stop thinking short terms, think about the economic boom after stable electricity.
Stable electricity is cheap in China

It is the way to go. Non cost-reflective tariffs, due to the Government subsidizing power supply, are one of the main problem of the Nigerian power sector.

Fact is that Nigeria needs a fully capitalised power sector. Removal of subsidy totally moves us closer to that.

The quoted below shows how dire the real picture is and the hopeless situation PBAT inherited due to decades of decay and wrong model of funding power supply.

Yet Nigerians who hardly read, nor do research, expect constant power asap.

Low Current Spend: Current investments sit below $1 billion per year against a required $9–12 billion annual target.

A typical average Nigeria can't pay for electricity, so u think tinubu can do it
Nonsense talk total darkness
U think it's your 5k or 20k electricity u pay for light bill every month that can serve u uninterrupt power supply grin
Nigeria government needs nothing less than 60b$ to build a stable power
They are not telling u the truth
For nuclear power plant first then another 100$b for that useless old national grid when dey collapse every time
Nigeria shall make ona try do the math grin

They did, but the greedy and inefficient DisCos sold most of the meters to consumers, despite the then minister of power Mr Adebayo Adelabu asking DisCos not to charge customers for either acquisition or installation cost. An agency will only make things worse. Make government remove hand for electricity, they should only regulate.
You lie from both sides of your mouth. Theres a company in Ikorodu approved for the manufacturing and sale of the meter. I bought 2 from them. They work hand in hand with discos and it wasn't the latter who appointed them. Stop defending this failed administration. You'll reap from whatever comes out of the removal of the so called subsidy, should tinubu enter again.

There's no subsidy anywhere because they keep increasing their tariff codedly and would be claiming nothing had been done, making over 200m Nigerians look stupid

TO always think you can demonize " subsidy" at any give chance is highly preposterous .. We see govt lie n lie on this subsidy of a thing

I am this kind of person that judge base on assessment records ... The fuel subsidy for instance what reflective changes have we seen ... The adverse effect on the economy & cost of living is it worth it. No sane Country jokes with there Energy security

The govt seems to be on a Alienate subsidy crusade, but the fact that even developed countries stil subsidize is enough to nullify Govt attempt to demonize subsidy

We know subsidy is not the problem but the immense corruption brought into it by few at elms of affair ... Instead of Govt to reform the system in a way that mitigate corruption they are busy throwing the child away with bath water

Now when you remove subsidy on two facilitators of production, wil that not hike cost of production, will such news promote a Productive economy .. weigh the implications on businesses nd household

So at what Point does Tinubu intend to let Nigerians breath relief .. FG failed in it responsibility nd they just want to force the burden on the people.

FG is doing that already. Just very slow thing. Most Band-A and Band-B regions are mostly targeted by the Free distribution scheme.

These is the very lame assumption Adelabu flew with immediately he became Minister ... People have to pay more people most pay more
Then he implemented the electricity hike and famous band A ... Please 3yrs after where are we
I know companies on Band A, radio stations on Band A that still count on Plants to sustain energy

These whole attack on subsidy stems fron the ideology of Govt Revenue drive, make fast money

I see you confidently talk about cost reflective traffic ... Using Band A, is the service also tariff reflective

It is an olodo uprise to insinuate Subsidy mitigate cost reflective nd i hope you are educated ... dont insult our intelligence

For every production there is actual cost ... People pay a large % of it and govt pay % as balance

It is not as if coke cost is 500 ... But becos govt subsidy people pay #200 nd govt add #100 leaving a loss of #200 ... Big No

Cost reflective cost reflective what about service reflective undecided abeg jare

My friend, people like you are the problems of Nigeria. Always quick to compare cost of things to developed world but have amnesia when it comes to comparing salaries and wages to those of developed country. If people pay the cost of electricity of developed country when they earn very little. What percentage of their salary will be for electricity. Nigeria government is so irresponsible that they want the citizens to make all their needs and no social responsibilities at all. I pour them spit
