Let Bygones Be Bygones — Wike Declares End To Feud With Fubara In Rivers State by SlavaUkraini(op): 10:04am On Aug 03
Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared an end to the protracted political feud between him and Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers.

Wike spoke on Saturday during a media chat in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital, where he called on supporters of both camps to embrace peace, unity and reconciliation, saying the state has been the biggest loser in the supremacy battle.

The FCT minister, who served as Rivers governor from 2015 to 2023, was widely reported to have played a prominent role in Fubara’s emergence as his successor.

However, shortly after Fubara was sworn in, the relationship between the two men deteriorated, triggering a prolonged political crisis that polarised Rivers’ political landscape.

The crisis saw lawmakers loyal to Wike initiate impeachment proceedings against Fubara on multiple occasions, escalating tensions and eventually leading to President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a six-month state of emergency in Rivers.

Both camps later reached a truce after Fubara defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

‘IF I SAY I FORGIVE YOU, I FORGIVE YOU’

During the media chat, Wike said Fubara’s biggest mistake was attempting to build his own political structure too early after becoming governor.

He, however, said he had reflected on their disagreements and resolved to put the development of Rivers above their personal and political differences.

“As far as the state is concerned, peace and unity are all we want. We must work together, and we are now working together with the governor,” Wike said.

The former governor acknowledged that mistakes were made during the political crisis but said all parties had come to appreciate the negative impact of the conflict on the state’s growth and stability.

“We have made our mistakes,” he said.

“We have realised that it is not in the interest of the state. Therefore, people should encourage this reconciliation and not ask, ‘Why did the governor do this?’ Those who make such comments do not mean well for Rivers state.”

Wike said the prolonged political crisis only hurt the state and its people, describing Rivers as the biggest casualty of the conflict.

“You should ask yourself a simple question: during all these fights, who lost?” he asked.

“It was the state that lost. So why would anyone want the state to continue to lose?”

The minister commended the spirit of compromise that made the reconciliation possible, saying true leadership requires sacrifice and the willingness to forgive.

“When someone has made a sacrifice and said, ‘Let bygones be bygones; let’s work together,’ that gesture should be appreciated,” he said.

“Some of us are not extremists. If I say I forgive you, I forgive you.”

‘THE GOVERNOR’S MIND IS NOW AT REST’

Wike said a committee had been constituted to engage stakeholders across the state and strengthen the ongoing peace process.

“We have set up a committee to reach out to everybody,” he said.

“The objective is to ensure that everyone is carried along in the effort to build a united and prosperous Rivers State.

“If you want to play politics today, it is the Rainbow Coalition. Forget whatever anybody tells you; you cannot win without bringing people together.”

He urged political actors to put the interests of Rivers above party affiliations.

“It is not about the APC, it is not about the PDP, it is not about the Labour Party, and it is not about any other group,” Wike said.

“Let us join hands together for the interest of the state because that is what will help us move forward.”

The minister also praised President Tinubu’s leadership, describing it as beneficial to Rivers and the country.

“The leadership of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is good for us and good for Nigeria,” he said.

Wike expressed optimism about the state’s future, saying the atmosphere of peace created by the reconciliation would enable Fubara to focus fully on governance.

“With what the governor has done, I can tell you that in the next one year, you will see a lot of improvement in this state,” he said.

“Nobody can govern effectively where there is no peace. Nobody can govern where there is no unity.

“Now the governor’s mind is at rest and he can concentrate on his work.

“Even if he has just six months, he can still make significant changes and leave a meaningful impact.”

The former governor said the reconciliation had also shut out political opportunists who thrive on division and conflict.

“With what we have done now, all those opportunists will no longer have the chance to divide the state further,” he said.

“It is unity forever. Let us work together, let us remain together, and let us build Rivers State for the benefit of all.”

BACKGROUND

The development follows Fubara’s recent declaration of support for the Rainbow Coalition, backed by Wike for Tinubu’s re-election in Rivers.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Rivers Medical Industries project in Port Harcourt on July 22, Fubara also endorsed Kingsley Chinda, Wike’s ally and the APC governorship candidate, as his preferred successor.

Fubara was initially screened alongside Chinda for the APC governorship primary but later withdrew, saying he made the decision out of conviction and in the interest of peace and unity of Rivers.

The APC screening committee reportedly disqualified several of Fubara’s allies from the Rivers house of assembly primaries while clearing aspirants loyal to Wike.

Re: Let Bygones Be Bygones — Wike Declares End To Feud With Fubara In Rivers State by AMINDA:
"Winning" by conquest, aided by federal might via state of emergency, denial of ticket and threats of EFCC is not exactly "winning". In the end, the battle is still with the people of Rivers. Wike is so desperate to get hold of Rivers and become what Tinubu is to Lagos but he has no idea the type of insecure personality that Tinubu has. Tinubu will cut Wike to size if he wins the 2027 elections as he knows Wike only needs the warchest that Rivers provide as a launchpad for his own ambition. Once Wike gets this, he will turn on whoever is on his way, including Tinubu himself.
Re: Let Bygones Be Bygones — Wike Declares End To Feud With Fubara In Rivers State by SixSeven: 12:25pm On Aug 03
Only one person made this man this relevant, his boss, Tinubu. Without Tinubu's endorsement, directly or indirectly, Wike wouldn't have had this much influence on Rivers State but we fought for democracy, na dem 🤡

"Wike is proof that Bola is not a true democrat and the power he has today is for his selfish reasons"

SixSeven:
Wike has no option than to back Tinubu is what it sounds like. Atiku is Tinubu's opponent, Wike also became Atiku's opponent. Tinubu found that my enemy's enemy could be my friend, this is why he can't let him go. He is very useful for his type of politics. Buying houses for judges and trying to wet ground 🤡 Corruption 26

Repost

He learned it from the so-called democratic or progressive man 🤡, his boss, Concensus. For Bola to stake his head in Rivers and declare a state of emergency but he never did in Plateau, Niger and everywhere else there has been mass killing is proof that politics is his favorite subject, not governance. Wike is proof that Bola is not a true democrat and the power he has today is for his selfish reasons. This further confirms that Tinubu did not win Rivers state so he has to use force in the state.

Tinubu's path to victory is

1. Voter apathy

2. Divided opposition

3. Force/threat (he has been using this in Lagos for long but with federal resources, he now has governors like Okpebolo, Wike, SP Akpabio who's always assuring that he will win and others to threaten people to vote him or else)

4. Money (what's your price? This is why he and Atiku are two sides of a coin. In a poor corrupt country with little morals, many are willing to sell their convictions for the highest bidder)

5. Propaganda (gaslighting, see how they celebrate the uncompleted coastal road, they will accept no responsibility but blame everyone else using religion, tribe and other distraction from the main issue). The way they counted fake millions of vote is gaslight in. Gaslighting is the manipulation by psychological means of a person (or group) which causes them to doubt themselves, their capabilities or their sense of reality.

Can you now see the big picture on why Bola holds on to Wike? Lagos, Kano and Rivers are important states. The NNPP governor that went to APC and they thought they had it in the bag, the Lagos government they have been holding for years and now Rivers will still not give them the rigging they desire.
Na dem dem

SixSeven:
Didn't they say he is a democrat? A builder of men? A visionary? That man is just a greedy old man. Who was it that said if you let Tinubu in, he will grab more than he can take? Think about being a landlord of Lagos and Rivers 🤡

The greedy can never be satisfied. What they condemned when they were in opposition, now they are doing it.

Those who wanted to rewrite his story just made me chuckle. Guy didn't want Fashola serve a second term simply because he wanted to be President. He didn't want anyone to have a record to be compared to him or outshine him. They are just lucky Fashola did not show craze like Ambode did, someone they eventually sent away under the guise of GAC. They now claimed that he made Fashola, he built Lagos, Ambode did not follow master plan. You see how their stories are not consistent. They then called Osinbajo a betrayer. These ones are lords and serfs. Those who refuse to learn history are doomed to repeat it

Of course let bygone be bygone.

It is very easy to say this when he has bowed to you, and then the governance and finances of the state are in your hands.

Since the inception of democracy in 1999, this is the greediest godfather we have seen!

We will also remind them of how they supported the losing candidate again in 2027, like they did in 2023.

You lie again with confidence.

Fubara doesn't have business with Obi supporters not even before or recent.

Do you have idea what Fubara and Wike did to Obi election results in River State ?

Ok because talk is cheap, you don't have ideas.....

Obi supporters will never forgive Fubara and Wike of what they did to their VOTES in Rivers State, they both never let their votes count.

Fubara worked with Wike to make sure Obi's Presidential election results goes to Tinubu instead of Obi.

So!..
