At this point, shouldn't our food and drúg regulatory bodies go into overdrive to ensure that the food, drinks, and medications we buy meet the standards for human consumption?
They went overdrive recently against fake drug merchants in the south east but Peter Obi and his obidents say they were against their business and that it was preventing "their" people from doing business kwam grin

If as God had forbidden that this Peter Obi can never be president of Nigeria by the power in the name of God then just imagine how fake drugs and beer factory Peter Obi built which are one of the primary causes of kidney disease would be a free for all. But we thank God for God that Enugu state governments provides healthcare centres like this with doctors and nurse not being on strike for 13 months straight while he is governor unlike Peter Obi who is donating to nurses and midwifery after leaving office and campaigning to be president but doctors and nurse were on strike for 13 months asking for pay and equipments to work in dilapidated hospital when he was governor.

I was scanning the thread for tribally induced comment, I was not disappointed..

Do you know how many Yorubas have suffered Renal dysfunction and other pathologies due to the unregulated sale and consumption of Agbo jedi and Opa eyin?

I am a Medical scientist and have the data, and have published a peer-reviewed article in that regard in an international journal with high impact factor.

You have a higher prevalence of Renal pathologies among Southwesterners than Southeasterners.

In that study, there was a direct relationship between consumption of vegetables in the dietary content of subjects and low incidence of Renal disorders.

Easterners generally have higher veggies in their general diet than Southwesterners. Ugu, Okro, Vegetable soup, bitter leaf, Scent leaf etc are their staple food, so the reason is not far-fetched.

We did the comparative study about 5 years ago.

so the water they drink might be contaminated

Poor hydration, we need to increase intake of water. Kidney disease is very high in Borno State.
My brother works with an NGO on this matter.
Alcohol is known to dehydrate someone.

Get away.

Everytime someone is caught for adulteration of products, they always have defenders calling it "business".

Now, you're feeling insulted.

There has to be a problem in the community that is affecting all of them. Did the health authority check? Are there industrial plants in the area? .. is the #nvironmentwl Protection Agency active an effective? .. how and where is the toxic waste disposed of? .. does it get into the ground water? ... is it discharged into the rivers? ... the source of potable water for many ? ... have residents changed from traditional natural crops to GMO crops? ... pestnrepellant crops?... the fruits of which are laden with pesticides ... the reason pests leave them alone? Are these patients mainly from a particular area.... which can give clues to the underlying cause? ... do the patients get the symptoms then go to the hospital?... or do the hospitals give "free kidney tests'l"... then say there is a problem? Who runs the hospital?... who are its backers? ... Bill Gates? ... is this a scheme to extract kidneys and whatever else from healthy individuals?... is it a scheme to test experimental drugs?

Something is not right with this picture ... so many kids and young people with kidney problems? That's a red flag right there

It is heartbreaking seeing the multitude of people who need help because they are suffering from kidney diseases both children and adults.

Pls Nigeria should be careful with what they take which may be harmful to their kidney.

All this people are just from one hospital called parklane hospital.

In Nigeria they wake up and start drinking sachet alcohol bitters
Did they tell you that there are no kidney disease patients in overseas? Abi you think that coffee is a safe beverage to be taken all the time with no health effects? It can temporarily raise blood pressure, increase potassium and fluid loads, or elevate dysfunction risks in slow caffeine metabolizers.

I think it is more of the unregulated concoctions sold at motor parks, in traffic, on social media, etc called herbal medicine, performance medicine, etc.

Also, the unregulated mixture of all manner of chemicals called beauty cream and bleaching cream on social media

The government allowed citizens of the state access to all kinds of drugs by allowing the operation of open drug market in Ogbete market in the state, so just anybody can easily go and buy drugs from the market and start taking without even consulting any healthcare professional! Why won't there be rampant cases of kidney failures in the state?

In the developed countries, drugs are prescribed strictly by qualified prescribers and dispensed solely in pharmacies under the supervision of qualified and licenced pharmacists. We borrowed orthodox medicine from the west yet think we are wiser than them by allowing indiscriminate use of medicines. Actions have consequences!

On many occasions, pharmacists in Nigeria have raised alarms over the dangers inherent in the operation of the open drug markets but governments have continued to aid and abet these wrong and unhealthy practises instead of taking decisive actions to stop it. This dangerous practise of allowing people access to all kinds of drugs is much more prevalent in the southeast states especially Enugu, this is why even children are now victims of kidney failures!

The problem is that the people use drugs indiscriminately in the state! I am based here in Enugu and I know this for a fact! I'll be surprised if the report had been otherwise!
Imagine empowering quacks to sell medicines indiscriminately just for profits in the name of open drug markets! Where else is it done in the 21st centuryhuh Government would still sweep this report under the carpets instead of taking actions to address the root cause.

You missed the real cause! People have been using refined sugar and genetically modified crops in the west yet they don't have as much cases of kidney diseases as we have.

You can continue to spread your hate against PO and the Obidients but you can not kill the truth. PO asked that the agency should fish out the culprits, lock down the medical section of the market but he frowned against locking the entire market. As this affects the livelihood of the people in an already outstretched economy.

If the government is sincere about combating fake products they don't have to make noise about it, with intelligence gathering the syndicates of fake products will be apprehended and made to face the wrate of the law.

Thank you.

I just googled and saw that it's a teaching hospital in Enugu, possibly this is the only hospital in the state with a kidney disease clinic. Even at that, our regulatory agencies need carry out investigations in what people are consuming in that state.
That's not the only hospital in the state with a kidney disease clinic. UNTH is also located in the state alongside other government and missionary hospitals. The problem is indiscriminate use of drugs due to the activities of quacks in the open drug markets! No sugar coating it

Wetin Dey really cause dis kidney problems sef??
Due to the hardship in the country, the market has been flooded with fake and substandard products. Sadly, these products are causing serious health problems, including kidney damage, for many people in Nigeria.

Here in Germany 🇩🇪, even many elderly people continue working and some even smoke cigarettes, yet they still seem to have better access to quality products and healthcare. In Nigeria, it’s a completely different story.

I weep 😢 for my people because the situation keeps getting worse. My prayer is that things will change for the better and that our people will be protected from these dangerous fake products.
