yes, Kano has more population than Lagos but Lagos has more visitors than Kano, that's the difference.

Imagine a one room apartment with 7 inhabitants VS a 3 bed room apartment with 4 inhabitants per bedroom.

Total inhabitants 1 room: = 7
Total inhabitants 3 bedrooms = 12

At first glance which of the apartments will look more crowded between the single 1 room apartment vs the 3 bed room apartment?

OK movement is looking good to haul about 3m votes from Kano and poll 1.7m from Lagos. They will shock the "fake owners" of Rivers with 1m votes while Wike and Amaechi are fighting in the boxing ring of political supremacy. Fubara is already showing Neutrality, afterall he has NOTHING at stake.

I don't know for sure. So I can't say conclusively especially because of politics and all.


But what I can say categorically is that Kano has a much larger land mass than lagos. So it might be a bit easier to notice the overcrowding in lagos and think it's more populated than Kano.


As one thing is sure lagos is over populated and overcrowded. So if you are see people per square meter the situation might actually be different.

please show us any stats that ever present what is contrary to my analysis, mind you I stayed in both cities.

I didn't believe it 100% before I got to Kano. After Kano ... I believe it 50%

A taxi driver was boasting to me that he has 26 children .... That guy was at max, 40 years old.

The females he said they are married off by first menses. Seen many like him.

The divorce culture is Kano is on another level.... Talaq 3x... You land in your papa house.

I know a woman who's been married to 3 men. 1x, 2x and 3x. She said the single marriage had smallpipe so that one didn't return for Part 2. A woman married 9 times. 4 men on the same street. Guys will marry a girl, do all the rites just for access to the well. 6 months dem don dump am.

Nope. Lagos has no villages. Whereas there are more people living in kano villages than in the main town

All because of 2027 election... imagine if tulumbu was able to assure Kwankwaso that he's the sole candidate when it'll be turn of the north, by now, we will be hearing kano in the bag, they won't be arguing if kano is more populated than Lagos state

I have been to Kano severally for work and leisure and also Lagos, many people in Kano are moving to Lagos and you have a lot of almost empty Local government areas and communities in Kano which you can't find in Lagos as everywhere is fully occupied bumper to bumper,
the claim that Kano is more populated than Lagos is just a political statement, this is why politicians from Kano have always resisted biometric census that will expose it's real population which is no where comparable to Lagos.

Only 6 made up the main town the rest are all villages.

You don't mean it? Is this lifestyle religiously inclined or tribally inclined. Because I'm sure no visitor would do that on their land.

Very accurate answer. Lagos welcomes more visitors (business, tourists, political, etc) because of its former status as Nigeria's capital and economic capital.



Muritala Mohammed Intl airport was Nigeria's only international entry and exit airports for decades, which made Nigerians to prefer it for traveling out of Nigeria and in even after other international airports were built.

There is no verifiable fact that Kano is populated than Lagos

Imagine jamb saying candidates from imo or Ekiti are more that candidates in Lagos which means they are using state of origin to count instead of residents

Nigerian head count is full of manipulation

I have witnessed situations where FG asked states to summit number of pupils in their schools I saw many less populated states were inflating the figures on their school registers

These are common practices

States generally have been inflating population figures for their own selfish reason

There is no way kano is more populated than lagos. Lagos is the number one commercial hub state in Nigeria. Just apapa local government is the richest LGA in Nigeria in terms of internal generated revenue. Only apapa we have companies like Dangote sugar, flour, cement. Tincan island, wharf, folawiyo, eleganza, MRS. Nipco, Capital oil and gas. Ibeto, SPG, Westminster, Total energy, Mobil depot, Mtn headquarters, etc

Kano is no where near Lagos

I don't think Kano is more populated in humans.

A lot of people forget Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria by land area. Though they have similar populations despite the diff in their sizes, Kano outranks Lagos but people would feel it's Lagos cause of population density. Opinions are not facts.

To my opinion lagos is more populated than kano. Geographical landscape does not matter. The congestion in lagos has overflow to ogun state, Area where peace is more tend to bring people to that area.Insecurity in the the north has made even the northern people to relocate to lagos, the economic market advantage, development, sea ports, and transnational business in borders like seme border,etc.These are factors that increase the population.

Yes, ive stayed and lived in both 2 states and can confidently affirm that kano is by far larger in population than Lagos. Hausa man sabi born pikin like crazy!
