By the way, adultery means a wife sleeping with a man who isn't her husband and a man sleeping with a married woman, someone else's wife.

In the old testament this was a crime punishable by death, but in the new testament if your spouse doesn't forgive you, you only get a divorce approved by Jesus words in the gospel

You have not sin against anyone but God in such a situation so you owe no one explanation except a restitution with God. Telling your spouse makes things worse and might lead to heavier sin like divorce and malice. My better advice is never try such confession.
My female friend try it and end up loosing her marriage because of rubbish faithfulness.she dey single mother till now.

Confessing may end the marriage, depending on if the spouse is forgiving. If the marriage continues, the confession can slam the door on chances of doing it again.

Hiding it will keep the door open for repeat cheating, which, as a Christian, we must know is not only a sin against our spouse, but against our own body, and our God.

The best option is to not cheat, and pattern out life choices against such possibilities. Choice in jobs, education, friends, etc. can be made to ensure reduced chances of cheating.

The context of that scripture is for spiritual help ooo…. Confessing to someone that is spiritual and will pray with you….
If u confess to a wife thats not spiritual … u may get a response of hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

In my opinion, if you know you want to have extra marital sex, be ready never to tell anyone forever. If you know you will be emotional at a point to tell someone about it, then you shouldn't do it in the first place.

For me adultery should not be forgiven from any parties at all. Jesus said it's a yardstick for divorce so it is . If you forgive this it might happen again but this time you'd never know .
