The term is applied strictly to people with cash balances or assets worth one billion DOLLARS and above. Being a naira billionaire doesn't count except when converted, your cash/asset holdings are equivalent to one billion dollars.
TEYA:
Being a billionaire does not mean having a billion in raw cash, it is having a met worth up to a billion.

Just say you don't him, just like other hidden billionaires in Nigeria. Just so you know he hosted Davido in otukpo Benue state in December 2020 during the Ochacho carnival and even gifted Davido a brand new Lexus LX 570 SUV. The man has been running his things on a low. Coming to social media spotlight is just to promote his 13 yrs old son's music career so he needs Peller's platform.

The random yahoo boys you know have already made hundreds of millions of naira even without a legit business or company

It's less than $1m

A billion naira net worth is quite common
Common in the high income world where one house of four bedroom owned by a teacher can be worth that much. It is not common in Nigeria where the money can build 40 such houses.

There are about 9000 dollar millionaires in Nigeria with 4800 in Lagos, 800 in Abuja and the rest scattered all over the country. The average state don't have more than 100 such individuals. Is that common?

If you have income of up to 50 million naira a year in business or from investments then you are probably a dollar millionaire or naira billionaire

If you live in Abuja and familiar with real estate industry then you can tell the ignoramus that Ochacho has silently paid his dues. He's always at work far in the bush while others are sleeping or scrolling their lives away online.

The guy has successfully delivered more than five estates in Abuja and still exploring. If Ochacho is strange to you, please go and ask around whom Andy Elerewe (AIBEN) is in Abuja real estate industry.... Ask about MSHELL in Abuja..... Another one is rising very fast as we speak.....

You guys should please take away the cobwebs from your eyes so that you can see well.
I don't have a horse in this race but I'll say one thing: the detractors are speculating on the source of his wealth, you're describing investments. What was the source behind the estate investment?

You can't say "oh he's rich BECAUSE he has a thriving business". It's a seemingly recursive argument.

You gotta have lots of money already to build an estate.

[quote author=Nwaikpe post=140280932]It’s silly trying so hard to claim everything that “looks successful” irrespective of what truly that thing is.

Just because you feel the name sounds Igbo, you fail to realize that his full name is: Mohammed Usman Adah. The “Ochacho,” (which is idoma by the way) is not a part of his real name just as he uses the word “King” but he is not a king of even the street of his house.

Ochacho is IDOMA. Relax yourself.

[No be every comment deserve response.

Money without power is useless.

If you are poor, you'll think money is everything.

But once you have money, you'll understand the importance of power.

It's easy for peller never to get arrested in Nigeria because he had influence. But last year, you could arrest Ochacho and no one would care.

But with increased fame, it makes it harder to just pull him out.
What you said may be true only if the money was made through fraud or some other questionable means.

But legitimate wealth is different.

If you build a small commodity business and eventually sell billions of naira worth of goods, it means you are probably serving a very large number of people. Your individual products might only cost 2,000 naira to 10,000 naira, but millions of people are buying from you. To build that kind of wealth legitimately takes years of consistency, and along the way, you become known, respected and connected.

On the other hand, if you are dealing in large commodities where individual transactions are worth millions and you successfully build a business worth billions, you are probably dealing directly with wealthy individuals, major businesses and powerful institutions.

So either way, legitimate wealth can naturally create influence and connections.

That is why I would not confuse popularity with power.

Popularity is being known by many people.

Connections are having relationships with people who have access, influence and the ability to make things happen.

And in many situations, connections are power.

Money can open the first door. Your reputation and relationships determine how many doors stay open.

I got your point, bro.

Every business has a source of capital, and the origin of that capital is not necessarily something the public has a right to know or understand.

Take Abuja alone—there are over 200 real estate developers. Are we going to assume that every successful developer is another Hushpuppi, Invictus Obi, Mompha, or someone with a questionable source of wealth?

The truth is, people often see the outcome but know very little about the journey. If, someday, I become successful and come into the limelight, people who never noticed me during my difficult years may suddenly start asking, “Where did he get the money?” That is simply how people think.

Dangote, Adenuga, Otedola and many others all started somewhere and somehow. We have heard the stories of how they began, and we have largely accepted those accounts because they are the stories available to us. But very few people actually went back to independently verify every detail of their early journeys.

So, irrespective of what people are saying, until there is credible evidence to prove otherwise, Ochacho is who he says he is.
Success alone should not be treated as evidence of wrongdoing. Sometimes, people simply see the harvest without ever knowing what was planted, how long it took to grow, or what happened during the years when nobody was watching.

The source of capital must be traceable. If there is money in your account whose origin you can't explain then the government if they know about it will seize it from you. That is how it works. Government have the right to seize money from you if you can't explain how you got it

That write-up was clearly made without bias. You’re only opposing it because of the mindset of blindly protecting things that are holding Nigeria back instead of acknowledging what needs to change.

You made too many mistakes:

1. There are hundreds of products without a human face in the market currently( people owning biscuits factories, restaurants, oil etc don't necessarily need to be known to sell their products)

2. Not all products require a human face (someone importing from China doesn't need human face. He buys in large quantities, sell directly to few wholesalers etc)

3. I didn't say Ochacho made his money legitimately. He may or may not have. I don't know. Aside nairalanders, how many Nigerians can link seun to nairaland and use it to explain his money?

4. Fame/popularity is not POWER. It's a form of power. Power comes in different forms. What Wizkid will get away with, you probably won't get away with half of it.

5. Connection is not separated from fame. But fame can be separated from connection. VDM is only connected today because he has fame. If you don't have connections, go for fame, connection will look for you then.

Okay, where are these statistics from?

Meanwhile, how much money does one need to have to buy or to build a standard 5 room duplex in Nigeria, factoring in land costs, finishing and furniture?
